Introduction
In today's fast-paced world, we need all the information and support that we can
get. This can lead to a negative effect on our social media usage as well as on
society. Learn about the impact that social media has on your life, family, and your
community by listening to this informative podcast! As a kid, I was always amazed
at my parents who took advantage of social media. The positive effect of using
social media use was the ability to interact with people from all over the world.
However, there weren’t as many cons since it facilitated for connecting with your
family and friends. As time passed on, my grandparents became more exposed to
technology and it changed their perspective on social media completely from
positive to negative.

REASON
We all know that the excessive usage of social media has become a growing
phenomenon and controversial issue. The growth of social media over the past few
years has changed the ways in which the internet is experienced by most end users.
With the help of this paper, we are trying to explain the negative impact on society,
on the students, LGBT members, and mental health. As well as to raise awareness
to each and everyone who also goes through the disadvantages of what media
caused our lives.

Education and Students

Addiction is the main negative impact of social media. Constantly checking
Facebook, Twitter, and other social media updates on social media. This addiction
could negatively affect other valued activities like concentrating on studies, taking
an active part in sports, real-life communication, and ignoring ground realities.
Social media is a useful tool to students, but too much use of social media has
changed the daily routine in their education, instead of reading books and studying.
Students waste too much time using social media and prefer holding gadgets as
past time hobby. People watch billion of video clipson YouTube daily. Every hour,
users upload video content.Every day, more than 90 percent of collegestudents
visit a social networking site.People have woven these networks into their daily
routines, using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, online gaming environments, and
other tools.Professor Larry Rosen notes that teens are developing the ability to
show virtual empathy for distressed. The experts have already made it cleared that
social media negatively impact learning. Studies found that middle school, high
school and college students who check social media networks at least once during
a 15-minute study period achieved lower grades. There are even some teens that
are addicted to maintain more than one account on social media networks in some
cases when boys sent requests to girls and they do not accept their requests they try
to make fake accounts using feminine names and display pictures and try to add
others.

Apparently, social media has been contributed negatively to the life of many
students, they like to procrastinating their study and spending much time on social
media. However, the poor standard of education in our country today can easily
being tracing to the inability of the students time they spend on social media much
then time on their study because they are spending much hours on social media.
Haseena, M. L. F. & Rasith, P. M. M. (2016) view that most respondents in their
study experienced negative effects such as poor grammar spelling , late submission
of assignments , less study tie and poor academic performance as a result of usage
of social media.

Mental Health
Social media is a part of our lives now, and we cannot imagine a world without it.
But as with any other addiction, social media can have negative effects on our
mental health. As the young ones grow up and start using social media more
frequently, they may experience anxiety over the amount of time they spend on
their phone. The constant presence of screens can be very distracting and lead to
feelings of being overwhelmed or anxious. Using social media too much actually
causes anxiety because you are missing out on valuable interactions with people
you care about in real life rather than through text messages or Facebook posts
(which are limited). They have ignored the addictive aspects of social media usage
and its impact on actions, thoughts, confidence, and security. Social media may
trigger feelings of inadequacy. People may feel as though their life or appearance
does not compare favorably with that of others on social media, leading to feelings
of envy and dissatisfaction. One of the most well-understood adverse effects that
social media usage causes are cyberbullying. Where social media gives a chance
for people to seek help and gain support anonymously, it can also give people a
chance to bully others anonymously. This bullying can cause psychosocial distress,
which can then affect their peer relationships, family life, and interactions with
others. With the emergence and rapid prominence of social media, it is vital to
understand the impact it has on active user’s mental health and relationships.
Individuals are so caught up and amazed with tweets, likes, and shares, that they
have overlooked the influence social media has on shaping and reshaping society.
They have ignored the addictive aspects of social media usage and its impact on
actions, thoughts, confidence, and security (Phoon, 2017). Numerous studies have
identified linkages between social media use and negative outcomes such as
anxiety, depression, loneliness, compulsive behavior, and narcissism (Strickland,
2014). Researchers found that extensive usage of the Internet was associated with
increases in depression and loneliness as well as lower levels of communication
within households (Kraut et al., 1998).

LGBT members.
It is a sad statistic that one in four LGBT people experience anxiety and
depression associated with social media. This is caused by the way in which we
use social media, which can lead to feelings of isolation, shame, and inadequacy.
Social media has become a place where people connect with each other like never
before, but it also causes them to compare themselves to each other, which can
lead to low self-esteem and depression. One of the biggest issues facing LGBT
people is how social media can cause them anxiety and depression. Social media
does not always have to be as negative as it is for LGBT members. There are ways
for us all to use our platforms positively. For example, there are many LGBT
communities on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook that allow
users to connect with others who share similar experiences or interests. These
communities provide an outlet for those who feel alone or isolated from the larger
population because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. These
communities are great places for those who struggle with depression and anxiety
because they allow people to share their struggles openly while providing a space
where they can get help if needed by others who understand what they go through
daily. Counterclaim Schoolchildren have access to social networking and media
tools that allow for communication, connection, information access, research, and
chat. Children learn by seeing others and via social interaction starting at a young
age. Social media not only facilitates knowledge acquisition but forming long-
lasting connections with real people, connecting with other dorm occupants on
Facebook, Social media does not always have to be as negative as it is for LGBT
members. There are ways for us all to use our platforms positively. For example,

Rebutal
It's not just a problem that affects those who are using it more than others. It's a
pervasive issue that affects every member of the community. And why would this
be? The answer lies in the way that social media encourages us to compare
ourselves to others. When our feeds are filled with pictures of people with perfect
hair and perfect bodies, we feel inadequate and unattractive by comparison.
Conclusion In conclusion, social media is, and will continue to be, harmful, unless
something is done about it. Social media has become increasingly widespread
among young adults, yet its relationship to depression and anxiety may depend on
the users’ experiences. For LGBT individuals, who exhibit disproportionate rates
of anxiety and depression, social media may present a unique source of acceptance
or of hostility and stress. Moderating their access to social media is one excellent
method.
