IV. PROCEDURE

A. Activity Task 1: Recall law of exponents

1: Exponential form: The exponent of a power indicates how many

times the base multiplies itself.

2. Multiplying Powers: If you are multiplying Powers with the same

base, KEEP the BASE & ADD the EXPONENTS!

3. Dividing Powers: When dividing Powers with the same base,
KEEP the BASE & SUBTRACT the EXPONENTS!

4. Power of a Power: If you are raising a Power to an exponent,

you multiply the exponents!

5. Product Law of Exponents: If the product of the bases is

powered by the same exponent, then the result is a multiplication of
individual factors of the product, each powered by the given exponent.

6. Quotient Law of Exponents: If the quotient of the bases is

powered by the same exponent, then the result is both numerator and
denominator , each powered by the given exponent.

7. Negative Law of Exponents: If the base is powered by the

negative exponent, then the base becomes reciprocal with the positive
exponent.

8. Zero Law of Exponents: Any base powered by zero exponent

equals one.

B. Analysis 1. How did you answer the activity?
2. How can you determine if the answer is correct or not?
3. What are you going to do if some terms of the given
polynomials is/are missing?
4. Is there another way to get the correct answer? Explain
briefly your solution.
5. How can you divide if the divisor is binomial?
6. What are the operations in solving division of polynomials?
7. What are the laws of exponents? Explain each law.

C. Abstraction Division of Polynomial – Long Method

Polynomial long division is a method for dividing a

polynomial by another polynomials of a lower degree. It is very
similar to dividing numbers.

To divide polynomial by another polynomial using long division

1. Arrange the terms in both the divisor and the dividend in descending
order.
2. Divide the first term of the dividend by the first term of the divisor to
get the first term of the quotient.
3. Multiply the divisor by the first term of the quotient and subtract the
product from the dividend.
4. Using the remainder, repeat the process, thus finding the second term
of the quotient.
5. Continue the process until the remainder is zero or the remainder is of
a lower degree than the divisor
