The engine has been adapted in terms of the intake air system, belt
drive and oil pan for use in the E70.
For the first time at BMW, the air intake system is fixed to the engine
in the E70. The digital hot-film air mass meter is located in the casing
of the intake silencer.
Two versions of the belt drive are used corresponding to the
equipment configuration. A single belt drive is fitted as the basic
version and a double belt drive for the higher equipment configuration.
N62B48O1 Engine
The N62B48O1 engine was introduced in the E65 as the 750i/iL and
since then has also been fitted in the E6x as the 550i/650i.
The N62B48O1 engine has been adapted in terms of the intake air
system, belt drive, oil pan and DME for use in the E70.
Also in this case, the air intake system is fixed to the engine.
A new feature of the belt drive is the linear tensioner for the ELAST
drive belt of the A/C compressor. This tensioner enables simpler
installation of the ELAST-belt while rendering special tools
unnecessary.

The fuel supply system features two delivery units that are located in
each of the two tank halves.
The fuel filter and electric fuel pump make up the right-hand delivery
unit. They cannot be replaced individually.
The lock for the service openings is new. A clip with a break-away nut
