and caring environment. With its resilient community that adheres to the institutional
core values of leadership, competence, and commitment, LCC offers programs and
service for the holistic development of individuals in the service of God and country.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
College of Nursing
The College offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Associate in Health Science Education.
It aims to provide quality education which is an integration of the broad knowledge and
humanistic caring as part of the contemporary nursing practice. It is committed to produce
graduates who will be part of a powerful workforce in the national and international health care
system. Further, the program develops functioning nurses who:
possess a high degree of compassion, warmth, patience, and perseverance in the
process of caring;
assume responsibility and accountability in the promotion and manifestation of
health, prevention of illness, and care and rehabilitation;
demonstrate refined clinical skills in doing nursing assessment and nursing
procedures;
participate in relevant nursing research activities; and
exhibit qualities of professionalism, particularly in executing speedy judgment and
intermediate action in any recognized heath situation
COURSE OUTLINE
COURSE CODE : BIOCHEM
COURSE TITLE : Biochemistry
COURSE DESCRIPTION :
The subject is a branch of chemistry that focuses on the molecular nature of life
processes. It is the study of a group of substances known as biomolecules that includes the
carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids in terms of structure, classification, and
reactions / metabolic processes that each kind undergoes. It also deals with how each of these
biomolecules determines and affect an individual’s over-all health condition.
COURSE OBJECTIVES :
At the end of the semester, students should be able to:
1. identify the structure and classification of biomolecules;
2. differentiate among the four classes of biomolecules in terms of characteristics and
behavior during reactions;
3. explain the different metabolic reactions undergone by biomolecules and the
significance of such;
4. appreciate the role of biomolecules in the over-all well being of individuals;
5. develop awareness on how one may maintain and improve his health through the
proper consideration of the biomolecular content of food
6. carry-out experiments proficiently; and
7. produce audio-visual materials depicting principles / processes in and applications
of biochemistry
