A linear equation in two variables has the standard form Ax+ By=C
where A, B, and C are real numbers and A and B are not both equal
to zero.

A linear inequality in two variables is an inequality that can be written
in one of the following forms:
Ax+ By ≠ C y ≠ mx+b
Ax+ By<C y <mx+ b
Ax+ By>C y >mx+ b
Ax+ By ≤ C y ≤ mx+b
Ax+ By ≥ C y ≥ mx+b
Example 3:
1. x + y <5
2. 2 x−3 y>−1
3. 5 x−6 y ≥30

Example 4:
Solution:
Represent x as the number of 1-peso coin
y as the number of 5-peso coin
The mathematical model is x +5 y> 150.
Therefore, it is a linear inequality in two variables.

Solution:
Represent x as the cost of each blouse
y as the cost of a pair of pants
The mathematical model is2 x+ y =980 .
Therefore, it is a linear equation in two variables.
