Introduction Contd...
Historically, the region was founded by Sufi Saint Shaikh Farid or Baba Farid. The tomb of the Sheikh
Farid is located on Talab Road. It was constructed in 1607 A.D. to keep safe the Grand Trunk Road. The
region was under the control of Mughals in medieval period. It was taken over by British in the early
18th century. In 1950, the industrial area was developed here to the rehabilitate the Pakistani refugees.
Once it was the part of Gurgaon district. It emerged as a separate district in the map of Haryana state in
the year 1979.
Sonu Nigam, a very famous Indian playback singer who has sung a number of songs in Hindi, Kannada,
Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and other languages was born on 30th July, 1972 at Faridabad town. The
Government of India honored him with the prestigious National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer
for his most popular song “Kal Ho Na Ho” in the year 2003. Pramod Chandila was born on 18th July,
1993. He is an Indian cricketer who plays for domestic Bengal. He has played for Ranji Trophy and
Twenty 20. Rahul Dalal is also an Indian first-class player who plays for domestic Haryana cricket. Anisa
Sayyed is a woman shooter. She has won two gold medals in 2010 Commonwealth Games for India, a
gold medal in SAF games in 2006 and a silver medal as well in Commonwealth Games in 2014.
Geographically, the district has a total 741 sq. km. area and occupies the rank 21st in State and 586th in
India on the bases of this size. It lies at 28o38'N latitude, 77o30'E longitude, 198 m altitude. In the year
2019, there was a total 10.79% forest area of total geographical area. During the summer its climate
remains dry and humid. The actual rainfall in the district was 740.3 mm in the year of 2020-21.
Administration wise, the district is divided into 2 sub-districts, 3 towns and 149 villages. Hindi is its
official language. In the state of Haryana with an allotted district code of 88 the district of Faridabad
came into existence on 15th July, 1997 with its administrative headquarters located at Faridabad which is
situated at a distance of 281 kms from the State Capital. There are 1 parliamentary and 6 assembly
constituencies in the district.
Demographically, according to the 2011 census, the district has a total number of 3,53,066 households
with a total of 18,09,733 comprising 9,66,110 are males and 8,43,623 are females and for the very
reason it occupies the ranks of 1st in the state and 263rd in India. The density of population of the district
is 2,442 persons per sq. Km. The sex ratio is pegged at 873 females per 1000 males while the child ratio
stands at 843 females per 1000 males. The schedule caste population of the district is recorded as
2,23,799 including 1,19,495 are males and 1,04,304 are females. The population growth rate during the
period 2001-2011 was 32.54% out of which 29.22% were males, and 36.55% were females. In the year
2019 the number of live births in the district was 48,938 including 25,514 were males and 23,424 were
females. In the same year the number of deaths in the district was 11,141 including 7,137 were males
and 4,004 were females. As per 2011 census the percentage of major religions practiced by the people of
this region was Hindu at 87.77% and Muslim at 8.93%. According to 2011 census the principal language
in the district is Hindi with 93.29%.
