ACTIVITIES PRE- 1. Students play a game of Hangman to introduce the
LESSON topic. Use dashes to represent the letters of free
time and write them on the board. Teacher asks
students to suggest of the alphabet. Continue until
they have guessed the answer.
LESSON Activity 1 (SB page 10)
DELIVERY 1. Students ask to tell about the free time. Teacher
elicits that they illustrates the topic of the lesson
(free time activities).
2. Teacher ask students to share benefit of free time
activities.
Activity 2 (SB page 10)
1. Students read the quiz and choose the best
answer for each question. They check their score.
2. Students compare their scores in pairs. Teacher
listens to students’ opinions of their descriptions as
a class.
Extension Activity (SB page 10)
1. Students look at the words in blue in the quiz and
choose the three activities they like the most. They
work in groups of four. Each group has to agree on
three activities that are the most popular in their
groups.

ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON 1. Split the class into groups of 4 or 5. Give them the names of
places.
Example: school, hospital, football stadium, petrol station, beach
2. Pupils must write the rules for one of the places assigned to
them and then read out the rules to the class. The other groups
repeat the rules and guess the location.
LESSON DELIVERY 3. Pupils read a text on recycling.
4. Pupils choose the sentences that depict the do’s and don’ts’.
5. Pupils write the do’s and don’ts’ on a sticky note and paste it on
a combo mat.
6. Pupils discuss the answers in a group.
7. Roam or Remain – One of the pupils from each group remains at
the table. The others move from one table to another by writing
other rules related to the topic.
8. Pupils present their work to the class.
9. Pupils are given a worksheet to match the do’s and don’ts.

coming weekend. Listen to their ideas as a class. At this stage, don’t
correct them if they make errors with be going to as this is the
subjects of this lesson.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity 1 (SB page 64)
1. Students copy the table into their notebooks. They read
the example sentences and complete the table using
contractions if possible. Teacher checks answers as a class.
Teacher points out that going to doesn’t change in
different persons in the affirmative, negative and question
forms but that the verb be does.
2. Teacher highlights the short answers and emphasize that
we do not use going to in the short answers.
Activity 2 (SB page 64)
1. Teacher does the first sentence with the whole class as an
example (isn’t going to go). Students copy the sentences
into their notebooks.
2. Students work individually and complete the sentences
using the correct form of be going to and the verb in
brackets. They compare answers in pairs. Teacher checks
answers as a class.

1. Teacher does the first question with the whole class as an
example. Students complete the exercise individually.
They compare answers in pairs.
Activity 4 (SB page 64)
1. Teacher nominates two students to read the example
question and answer aloud to the class. Students work in
pairs and ask and answer the questions. They give
answers that are true for them. Listen to some pairs as a
class.

ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Teacher asks students to look at the pictures of what teenagers in
the UK spend their money on. Teacher elicits as much vocabulary
from the class as possible to describe the items in the pictures and
write the words on the board (sweets, a computer games, nail
polish, shoes). Teacher asks students what other things they think
British teenagers spend their money on and write their
suggestions on the board.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity 1 (SB page 68)
1. Students read the question carefully first. They read Lucy’s
speech bubble and the text. They find the answer to the
question. Teacher checks the answer as a class.

1. Students read the sentences first. They look in the etxt and
decide if the statements are true or false. They compare
answers in pairs. And correct the false statements.

ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON 1. Write lesson aims on the board:
• to understand the events in a story
• to retell the story with your classmates
2. Draw stick figures of 2 men, a small hut (teach or check
this word if necessary) and the moon on the board. You
can use pictures instead if you prefer.
3. Tell pupils that you will tell them a story, and ask them
to predict the connection between the men, the hut and
the moon.
4. Elicit suggestions from the whole class and write them
briefly on the board.
LESSON 5. Tell pupils the story.
DELIVERY 6. Ask them to compare their predictions with real
connection in the story briefly in pairs and then as a whole
class.
7. Now ask pupils to listen again to the story and to be
ready to tell you some of the details of the story.
8. Tell the story again and elicit some of the key details.
9. Tell pupils that you’ll ask them to retell the story
together.
10. Hand out the story prompts and ask pupils to use them
to tell the story together in pairs or small groups.
11. If necessary, tell the story once more to help pupils
while they are working with the prompts.
12. Elicit the story, line by line, as a whole class activity.
POST LESSON 13. Ask pupils what the final part of the story means, and
elicit their suggestions.
(There is no correct answer, as the story is open to
different interpretations. One interpretation is that rich
people are people who want to give, and poor ones are
ones who want to take. Another is that we should think
about the beauty of the world around us, not about
possessions. Other interpretations are possible.
14. Hand out the story so that pupils can check their work.
