ACTIVITY NO: 1
DIVIDING WHOLE NUMBERS AND MIXED DECIMALS BY DECIMALS AND VICE
VERSA

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

. How do we divide a decimal by a whole number?

 To divide a decimal by a whole number, write the decimal
point (∙) of the quotient directly above the decimal point of the
dividend.
 Check by multiplication.

How do we divide mixed decimals?

 First, change the divisor to a whole number by moving the
decimal point to the right place.
 Then, move the decimal point in the dividend to as many
places as the decimal point in the divisor is moved.
 Then, divide as with whole number.

Example 1: (dividing whole numbers by decimals and vice versa)

Read and analyze the problem.
Elvie bought 6 tetra packs of juice for P34.80 how much did each pack of
juice cost?
Example 2: (dividing whole numbers by decimals and vice versa)
Read and analyze the problem.

kilometer apart. How many posts will there be?

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3

Solution: First, you are going to move To check: (multiply)
Divide: 48.6 ÷ their decimal points two places to the
0.09 right. Their relationship will not
change.
