Possible Waste Management Program in UCC Campus in 2022-2023

Background of the Study

Waste management refers to the activities and actions required to manage waste from its

inception to its final disposal. This includes waste collection, transportation, treatment, and

disposal, as well as waste management process monitoring and regulation. Waste can be solid,

liquid, or gas, and each type has different disposal and management methods. Waste

management is concerned with all kinds of waste, including industrial, biological, and household

waste. UCC established proper waste segregation on its campus, including waste separation

(eg...biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recycled materials such as plastic bottles and cans).

The school provides trash cans with clearly labeled labels to separate solid wastes, primarily in

the school's canteen, which generates a large portion of the school's trash. This management is

regarded as one of the issues that must be addressed at UCC. School. This research focuses on

developing the school’s way of handling wastes, recycling was first included in the Waste

Disposal Act in 1987. Since then, the articles included in that Act have been revised nine times.

The last two revisions in 1998 and 2002 made a clear switch, moving the system from

privatization toward nationalization. This study analyses and evaluates the Department of

School experience current structure, establishment and issues for sustainable management. The

research topic focused on the best way for schools to manage their waste. This topic convinced

the Ancillary Department to influence our school to implement the best waste management to the

Department of School. Since Imus,Cavite is one of the most disciplined and organized country in

Asia by means of segregating their wastes, that’s why the researchers agreed on implementing

this process in the school, U.C.C. According to the researchers, this will help the school to gain
3

knowledge and to share ideas to other students, and also to avoid catching unknown diseases

from the negligence of other people. School cleanliness and waste discipline may also contribute

to the school to be admired and represented as a model. This topic influenced the researchers to

convince the school’s Ancillary Department to apply this kind of process for the sake of the

students, teachers, and school’s personnel that may benefit on this project.

Waste products from houses and schools are gathered and thrown on the ground, creating

an unattractive mountain of trash that also smells unpleasant and serves as a breeding ground for

pests that spread disease, such as mice, cockroaches, mosquitoes, and reptiles. Schools were

picked for this article out of all the important environmental pollution sources since the rate of

waste generation and the make-up of the garbage have not been reported or have been overstated.

Recycling was initially incorporated into the Waste Disposal Act in 1987, and this

research is focused on developing the school's waste management procedures. The articles

contained in that Act have undergone nine revisions since then. The system clearly shifted from

privatization to nationalization with the last two amendments in 1998 and 2002. This study

examines and assesses the Department of School Experience's existing organization, setting, and

management challenges. The optimum manner for Schools to manage their trash was the subject

of the research topic. The ancillary department was persuaded by this subject to exert influence

over our school to implement the best waste management practices. Due to the segregation of its

citizens, Imus, Cavite is one of the most orderly and ordered countries in Asia.

The greatest strategy to reduce trash on our campus is to produce less of it in the first

place. The greatest environmental advantages come from waste prevention. It transforms organic

waste by adding a useful soil additive that improves soil health and stops organic waste from
4

leaking into the environment. Run a cleanliness campaign around your business and in the

surrounding area, and inform the populace of the importance of keeping the environment clean.

The pupils would benefit from this even though it might not be part of the curriculum. Their

memory would be enhanced by this style of education. In order to inspire individuals to embrace

this case as well as to solve a problem regarding what we need to perform in this area.

They should put proper segregation, recycling, and composting into practice even at

home if they want to bring this habit with them to school. This will make setting an example for

kids more genuine and natural. Effective management techniques have not been properly applied

in the Philippines, not even in schools. The sector governance of solid waste management

handles the problem from the standpoint of an immediate need. Given the extraordinarily large

amounts of waste that are either inefficiently or incorrectly managed, as well as the rising rates

of waste production globally, there is substantial cause for concern.

It is crucial that some of us, particularly the young, learn and understand the best waste

management techniques so that they may be put into practice and everyone can be accountable in

both our educational system and the larger society in which we live.

Statement of the Problem

This research focuses on waste management through recycling and strategies to reduce pollution
to cut costs.
1. How do Students and teachers segregate the wastes in the proper way?
5

2. What will happen if the admin department applies the best waste management in

U.C.C Campus?

3. What other benefits does the community get from proper waste segregation?

Thesis Statement

The researchers are trying to uncover assumptions and beliefs that are the foundation of

this study. These presumptions and convictions helped the researchers choose the research

questions to ask, the theories that will inform the research, and the methods for gathering data to

support the research questions. The research is supported by the following presumptions:

1. Solid waste management has a positive influence on society that not only saves natural

resources and human life.

2. The environment is also protected from exposure to inorganic and biodegradable waste.

3. Air pollution, soil erosion, and water poisoning can all result from improper waste

management.

Scope and Delimitation

Filipinos must adapt this in order to benefit from it; this study primarily focuses on the

adaptation of waste management practiced in schools. benefits for everyone to have the safety

they deserved, not just for students in schools. Humans must take care of nature. This should be

implemented when they are still young since, as the Filipinos once thought, children are the

future of our nation. They will learn how to sort, get rid of, and put trash where it belongs.

The participants of this study are the students and admin of Unida Christian Colleges.

This institution will act as a model for others, who may then adjust the UCC campus' waste

management practices. In addition to assisting in the prevention of undiscovered diseases, this

will benefit people's health.

Significance of the Study

This study focuses on the idea that waste segregation is beneficial for the environment

and will benefit teachers, staff, and students.

Particularly, the following groups will gain from this research in the following ways:

Student. This study aims to imply waste segregation which will help them learn how to

segregate their wastes and to study with a comfortable environment.

Teachers. The purpose of this study is to imply that waste segregation will benefit them by

providing a secure and comfortable working environment.

School Campus- They will gain from it because the excellent environmental presentation will

speak highly of the school. Selling the recycled materials to a specific company and using them

as a commodity can help the school generate more revenue.

Community. This study focuses on the segregation of waste that will help eliminate diseases

that are already present or are caused by uncontrolled waste situations, helping to create a clean

and safe environment for the community.
