IV. PROCEDURES Introductory Activities (5 mins)

Good morning class!!! Good morning ma’am

The students will pray
A. Prayer

At first let’s pray, who wants to lead (The students will pray)

Our father………
Before taking your seat arrange your
chair and pick up a piece of paper under None ma’am
it.
B. Checking of the Attendance

Whose absent today?

Very good!!

A. Reviewing previous lesson C. Recapitulation

Presenting the New Lesson.
So yesterday we tackled about the RNA
structure.

Am I right!!

What is RNA?
Yes ma’am
What are the subunits compose the
RNA? RNA is ribonucleic acid.

The nucleotide of RNA has three

components , what are those? Nucleotides

What are the four nitrogenous bases? Phosphate

Sugar ( Ribose)
Nitrogenous base

Very good Adenine

Uracil
Cytosine
Guanine

(ENGAGE) Class before we start our discussion, I

have here a 4 pictures , i want you to
arrange the jumbled letters below with
the use of 4 ( four) pictures.

What does the first pictures imply?

Deoxyribonucleic acid

How about the second image?

Break
And the last one

Replicate

Very good students!!

Those words have something to do with

our topic for today.

Before anything else here are the things

that you should learn after our lesson

*Define the DNA replication.

*Explain the process of DNA

replication.

* Reflect the Importance of

DNA replication process.
I will group you into 2 groups this activity
(EXPLORE) is called "DNA makes DNA" you are
going to make a DNA template to
determine the sequence of new DNA
strand.

I will only give you 15 minutes to perform

the activity.

Then answer the following guide

question.

Is that clear, do you any questions? None ma'am

Okay you may now start.

(See the activity sheet attached) The students will answer the
activity with their respective
groups.
Are you done? Yes ma'am
(EXPLAIN)
Let’s see if your answers are correct. Yes ma'am

Compare the new two strands of DNA, Different ma’am, each new
are the same or different? strand, formed is a complement
of one of the original strands.
(Answer may vary)

The pairing of the bases

How do the nucleotides in DNA pair? produces two long strands.
(Answer may vary)

How is information from the DNA passed The information is being

on from one to another? passed by replicating a parent
DNA to form another set of new
DNA strand.
So, the information is being
copied exactly through
generation.

Do you understand the process by which (Answer may vary)

DNA copies itself?

According to the activity perform, what is DNA replication is the process

DNA replication? by which a double-stranded
DNA molecule is copied to
produce two identical DNA
molecules.

Very good!!

DNA replication is the copying of DNA to

(ELABORATE) form another set DNA strand that is
complementary to its DNA template.

Is it clear? Yes ma'am

The following are the events while the

DNA copies itself.

First when DNA is ready to replicate the

two strands unwind at a specific point
called origin of replication.

After that an enzyme called helicase

breaks that bond between nitrogenous
bases, the two strands of DNA split.

After that the complementary nucleotides

are added to each strand by DNA
polymerase to form new strands.

When the replication begins the two

parents DNA strands are separated one
of these is called leading strand and
other one is lagging strand.
What is DNA replication? DNA replication is the copying
of DNA to form another set
DNA strand that is
complementary to its DNA
template.

What is the role of Helicase in the Breaks the bonds between the
replication process? nitrogenous bases.

How about the DNA The complementary

polymerase? nucleotides are added to each
strand by DNA polymerase to
form new strands.

What is the importance of DNA It ensures that all body cell

replication? must carry the same genetic
Very good!! information and that
instructions are copied exactly
Do you have any clarification and for the next generation.
questions?
None ma'am
Get a ¼ sheet of paper we will have a
(EVALUATE) short quiz.

Direction: Identify what is the statement

pertaining to.

1.This process involves the separation of 1. DNA replication

two original strands to form new strands.
2. It is an enzyme that breaks the bond
between nitrogenous bases.
3. Complementary nucleotides are added 2. Helicase
to each strand by an enzyme
called______.
4. This strand is replicated in continuous 3. DNA polymerase
direction.
5. Adenine bond with ____.
4.leading strand

5. Thymine
Assignment:
Advance study;
