3. Read the Passage below and answer the questions that follow. (12mks)
It is clear that women and men have had different roles in society for a long time. These different
roles are known as gender roles
It is important to note that gender role differences are slowly fading.
Women are taking up roles that were traditionally reserved for men. We might find women at
construction sites, in security companies or at garages. Women can also be found operating
heavy machinery. More and more men are working as beauticians.
Each person, regardless of gender has arole to pray in society. For our communities to progress,
all members must participate equally in performing different roles. We should not allow a
tradianal definition of gender roles to determine our career and professional paths. Gender roles
should also not define who can or cannot be a leader.
Effective leaders focus on the team rather than themselves. Whatever duty is at hand, the y
brings people together to find a solution. Skilled leaders are good communicators and listeners. If
you were the class leader, you would be expected to speak fluently and Cleary when explaining
the plans you have for your class. You should be willing to listen to the comments and
suggestions of others. Members are motivated to stay in a team when the leader is willing to
listen and learn from them.
In short, a set of skills is needed for a leader s to succeed. Let boys and girls alike take up
leadership roles faithfully.
