PART OF SPEECH
● I bought a beautiful dress at the mall. (beautiful: adjective)

SENTENCE PATTERN
● The meaning of transitive and intransitive verb
a. Transitive verb is the type of verb that needs a direct object to
receive the action. Example: The cat carries a candy. (carries:
transitive verb, a candy: direct object–what is carried by the cat)
b. Intransitive verb is the type of verb that does not necessarily need
a direct object to deliver a complete thought in a sentence.
Example: They slept. (laughed: intransitive verb)
● 2 examples of S-V-O sentences
a. Sally broke her glasses. (Sally: S, broke: V, her glasses: O)
b. They received the letters. (They: S, received: V, the letters: O)
● She gave him the money. (She: S, gave: V, him: indirect object, the
money: direct object)
● Object complements are words that follow a direct object in a sentence,
whose function is to describe the direct object.
● She baked her mom a cake. (She: S, baked: V, her mom: indirect
object, a cake: direct object)

ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE


a. Active voice: They had invented something in our land.
Passive: Something had been invented by them in our land.
b. Active voice: Stefan painted your house yesterday.
Passive: Your house was painted by Stefan yesterday.
c. Active voice: Ray has repaired your motorcycle.
Passive: Your motorcycle has been repaired by Ray.
d. Active voice: You and I will kill the Netherland soldiers.
Passive: The Netherland soldiers will be killed by you and me.
e. Active voice: Harry pulled the door until it broke last week.
Passive: The door was pulled by Harry until it broke last week.

PREFIX AND SUFFIX


a. The explanation of prefix and suffix
● Prefix is a sub-category of affixes that is placed at the start of the
main word, before the root/ base. Example: un + happy: unhappy
● Suffix is a sub-category of affixes that is added at the end of the
root/ base word. Example: receive + er: receiver
b. My mother gave me permission to go to the movies tonight.
c. Type II: Use the prefix or suffix to the given word provided in the bracket
in its appropriate form.
1. You can’t just believe it. The plot was unbelievable.
2. I saw her just a few days ago, still, I miss her. It looks like she just
disappeared.
3. I am sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you. I must have misunderstood you.
d. Type I: Use prefix in the below words to find out its opposite word.
