INTRODUCTION
Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994,” Colleges

and universities require their students to undergo trainings within a specific number of hours as

part of the curriculum. On-the-Job Training (OJT) is a job preparation allowing them to succeed

in their role and maintain a good opportunity for employees to grow their knowledge and

improve their job skills to become more effective in the workplace.

Employable skills are a crucial component for nations to survive and compete in a globalized

world, when a student first starts at a company or workplace, they may receive on-the-job

training at school that will help them learn what is expected of them as well as the job skills

necessary for their new position. In short, to strengthen work performance through approaches

like coaching, training sessions, and leadership mentoring. Training is a specific event that

teaches new information or skills, often provided to new or newly promoted employees.

OJT takes place within the employee’s normal job environment and they will learn all aspects of

skills and knowledge required in their actual work. These preparations will have a favorable

impact on employee productivity, which can boost an organization's profitability and

effectiveness. Employees may receive training in a certain variety of topics, including safety,

human relations, and work ethics

COMPANY/AGENCY PROFILE

HISTORY
The Philippine National Police (PNP) originated from the Philippine

Constabulary or the PC, which was inaugurated on August 8, 1901, establishing it as an insular

police force under the American regime. On August 8, 1975, Presidential Decree no. 765 was

issued, establishing the Philippine Constabulary Integrated National Police or the PC/INP as the

country’s national police force. These fragmented and diverse local police units were integrated

into a national police force with the Philippine Constabulary as its nucleus. After the People’s

Revolution in 1986, a new

Constitution was promulgated providing for a police force, which is “national in scope

and civilian in character.” Consequently, Republic Act No. 6975 entitled, “An Act Establishing

the Philippine National Police under a Reorganized Department of the Interior and Local

government (DILG),” was signed into law on December 13, 1990, which took effect on January

1, 1991.

Subsequently, the PNP was operational on January 29, 1991, whose members were

formerly the PC and the INP and the absorption of the selected members from the major

service units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines such as the Philippine Air Force Security

Command, the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy, and the Philippine Army. Thus, to

further strengthen the PNP into a highly efficient and competent police force, Republic Act No.

7
8551 entitled “PNP Reform and the Reorganization Act of 1998” was enacted on February 17,

1998, amending certain provisions of Republic Act No. 6975.

MISSION
The PNP shall enforce the law, prevent and control crimes, maintain peace and

order, and ensure public safety and internal security with the active support of the community.

and credible police service working in partnership with a responsive community towards the

attainment of a safer place to live, work and do business.

EXPERIENCES – MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2023
As one of those student who is an aspiring officer in the Tri-Bureau, it is a great

opportunity to have an On the job training in one of the offices such as the Philippine National

Police. OJT gives training to student like us in the field, traffic investigation, posting on different

areas to give visibility or in paper works. All of this is because they want us to experience what

are their job as a police officer, this kind of experience or training will definitely help us student

trainee on our future career. We are already on the month of February it means we OJT’s are

almost on our last month of deployment. Time flies very fast it feels like the first day when we

met and talked to PLTCOL. Marlon M Cudal the Chief of Police at the San Jose City Police

Station, when he welcomed us and gave us some reminders on what to dos and don'ts while we

are on duty as an Intern.

We are divided into groups and we were assigned to post in different areas in San Jose

City such as on crossing, waltermart, schools and many other more. There was a time when we

were deployed at the school, it was overwhelming because even though we're still a student

intern, we can really see and feel the respect shown to us by the students especially when we

are wearing our Type A uniforms, there are also some students who will salute every time we

passed by. OJT is fun even if the daily travel is tiring but it’s part of being a student to feel tired

10
and despite those tiring days you can acquire new skills and knowledge from the people you

met every day.

Just like the what we experienced the past months, nothing changed and each company

still rotates and change the duty area every week that's why we observed different places. Just

like the duty at the crossing, we observed how the traffic enforcers work to avoid the crowding

of cars on the road and to avoid having traffic congestion. Our duty is more on paper works and

posting in different areas. We experienced to guide other people to the clearance area, we also

experienced to do some paper works on the WCPD Office where the officer there are

approachable and kind.

All the personnel in San Jose Police Station are approaching and kind even though we

didn’t have the chance to talk and socialize with all of them because they have a lot of work to

do, we can say that they are kind and not hard to approach, also they are not strict as long as

we have discipline and we go to our designated areas, do our duty properly and observe what is

happening around us. On the span of almost three months of being an On the Job Trainee at

San Jose Police Station all I can say was I learned a lot through observing what was happening

around me and learned from those things they have taught us that I can apply on my chosen

career or profession on the future.

Furthermore, we can’t deny the fact that aside from those good experience we were

experiencing while we were on duty, we can still experience not so good experience aside from

the traffic congestion while we were on the way to the station there are also a times when

some of the PNP personnel noticed us for not wearing proper uniform and for being late on

11
duty sometimes so we are being told because of that, we understand that because they

disciplined us and enlighten us for the things we've done because it's for our own sake.

Overall the experience of being an OJT is fun even if its tiring from everyday travel from

Llanera to San Jose City because it’s too far but nevertheless, it is a good opportunity for us to

expand our knowledge and improve our job skills to become more effective in the workplace in

the future, we can acquire this from the personnel and other people we are interacting and

socializing every day. On-the-job-training is one pf the best part of being a college student,

there are many experiences either good or bad, and those people you meet and work with on

duty will become your new friends with whom you can talk about your experiences while you

were on duty. I will cherish those memories because it is one of a lifetime experience and

because I also met people who became my friends. We never learn anything by being told, we

need to find out for ourselves, every experience makes us grow and the only source of

knowledge is experience.

12
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

1. Spending money because I have to pay every day for the transportation then next we need to

go to school for our afternoon class.

2. Being late because there is no transportation and because there is traffic congestion on the

way to the station.

3. The travel from Llanera to San Jose City because it is far.

4. When it is raining it is hard to travel because we are only using a motor vehicle.

5. Managing my time on doing other school requirements.

13
SUGGESTIONS
1. Give some activities on the OJT’s so they are not wasting their spare time doing nothing other

than observing.

2. Give the students a sufficient time to travel from their designated duty stations to their travel

to school.

3. Personnel should also let us come with them when they are patrolling.

4.Fix the traffic lights for the smooth flow of vehicles.

5. Assign more enforcers at each intersection to prevent traffic build up.

14
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Assist and teach the OJT’s some other paper works so they can gain more knowledge about

it.

2. Assign some staff to assist the people on the police clearance area.

3. Secure the Uniform of the OJT’s before they will deploy on different offices.

4.Make the OJT a two whole day so that the students have enough time to study their lessons.

5.Assign the OJT's to their respective Municipality.
