Session Listings
This session will be an opportunity to learn about the impacts of child abuse and how to respond to
disclosures in a supportive manner.
Livingstone Range School Division will be offering the following training, Supporting Individuals Through
Valued Attachments (SIVA). If you are interested in attending, please speak with your Administrator or
Learning Support Teacher to be registered. Space is limited. Day one - March 16 - will be virtual and Day
Two – March 17 – is in person at GR Davis.
Please note that you must pre-register
We want to give EA's and Teachers simple strategies to learn how to incorporate AAC into the classroom. We
will go through a cycle of teaching and explaining what AAC is, and how to use it. Then we will play and
practice with your students' specific AAC devices, learn how to edit them, change pictures, and go through
some basic settings. Lastly we will make a plan for how you can incorporate and use the device throughout the
students' daily routine. Dallin will offer 2 separate sessions (please attend one or the other), from 9:00-10:30 or
11:00-12:30. Wendy will be available during the rest of the time for collaboration. Also see #32 for 2 OT
sessions Brad is holding at the same times.
Please chat with your students families and let them know of the date in advance, ask for permission to borrow
their device for the day of the PD. Some students may need their device back as soon as possible, so consider
arrangements for the family to pick up the device after the session is completed.

4. High School Science Teachers Collaboration
Location: Willow Creek Composite high School

Focus on developing district wide assessments that help prepare students for diploma exams in chemistry,
and give teachers a way of comparing student performance objectively throughout the school year, as a
way of analyzing what pedagogy is working most effectively as we work to meet learning outcomes. Focus
chemistry 30, and necessary skill development in chem 20..
Do you love literacy but struggle that PD is often geared towards Elementary? This session is for you. Bring
your favourite tips, tricks, and tools for building literacy skills in the secondary classroom (any secondary
classroom). We'll use this time to share ideas, talk about some intervention strategies and share our
favourite teacher and student resources.
Bring your Benchmarks and any resources you'd be willing to share to assess students for their Reading,
Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills. Time will be provided to update current files and add benchmarks
into Imagine Everything. Lunch is provided
In this session learn about building a Math Tub of Tools for each student to use and building multiple math
games out of Guess who boards. Please pre-register to receive supply list.

Join Destination Exploration, the Youth STEM Outreach Program at the University of Lethbridge for a day
filled with tech, Indigenous Ways of Knowing and hands-on learning! You’ll learn how to use and
troubleshoot two popular tech teaching tools, the Ozobot & Makey Makey. Then with your new digital
skills, we’ll walk you through lesson plans that teach and highlight Indigenous Ways of Knowing that are
easily scalable to any classroom. You will also receive a Makey Makey to take with you.

10. Building Skills and Strategies that grow with our
students.

Building skills and strategies that grow with our students. Collaborative sessions for grades 4 - 9 math.
What are some best practices for reporting for EAL Benchmarks? How often do I have to report EAL
Benchmarks? What are the EAL Benchmarks? What work samples can I include? This will be a
collaborative session where we can explore the previous and new Proficiency Benchmarks Tracking
sheets and how we can use them to plan and develop individual student language learning goals. There
will be time built in to work on your benchmark tracking for your students.
This session will be a collaborative session that supports the development of a solid reading intervention
program which includes work with phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and
comprehension. These skills can then be extended into full class lessons and a K-3 scope and sequence
for your school. Most of what will be discussed is based on the book "This Is How We Teach
Reading...And It's Working!" by Heather Willms. Heather's website is a great resource with many links to
free resources.

13. Raising Standard of Excellence in Math & Science
(Grade 9-12)
Location: Crowsnest Consolidated High School

This will be a working session to brainstorm ideas and develop material to help improve our students
standard of excellence success rates on the PATs and Diplomas.
The purpose of this session is to discuss and share resources for developing Scientific Literacy and
Critical Thinking Skills in science courses. Ideally, it's a way to bring together the High School Science
Teachers within the division to exchange experiences and resources. There will be structure provided to
the session as well as some detailed examples of resources used specifically in Science 10, Biology 20
and Biology 30 (Article Analyses, Seminars and Formal Lab Reports).
Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop device and any resources they might be willing to share in
the session (i.e. Lab ideas, etc...).
1. Continue to develop-coordinate a SS 10-1-2 mock United Nations Capstone project some of us started
and did last June between three schools. We'd introduce the activity to other schools and investigate
expanding it.... adjust assignments, activities, assessments etc. Plus coordinate schedules.

16. New PE & Wellness Curriculum

In this session we will explore the new PE & Wellness Curriculum web site. I went to the session at
convention and it would be nice to explore the new curriculum a little more, please join me.
Foundations of ST Math is an in-depth learning opportunity for those new to ST Math. Participants will
immerse themselves in a variety of hands-on experiences that will teach them how ST Math works.
Educators will come away with a plan to effectively implement the program with their students.
Learning Objectives:
• Play ST Math games to discover how learning happens in ST Math.
• How to support students.
• Create a plan to introduce ST Math to Students.
• Set goals and monitor students in ST Math.
We will have time after the professional learning to work in the software and collaborate.

If you have any interest in skills Canada this is a great opportunity to get a glance into what the competition
is about and how well it connects to trade industry standards and the CTS curriculum. Students will be
working with teachers in Culinary, Cabinetry, Carpentry and Auto during ISC day preparing for the Skills
Alberta regionals competition. Come and visit Matthew Halton and observe how CTS teachers break down
the scopes and plans then work through the project with students to ensure they go into the competition
prepared and confident.

19. Aligning System for Results

Achieving coherence within a system is not easily accomplished. Accessing a number of resources,
including Michael Fullan’s (and his colleagues) Coherence, we will discuss coherence and alignment,
systems in our schools and how coherence can be achieved through focused and purposeful interaction
within our staff and administrator colleagues. By discussing and sharing successful systems in place, we
can continually improve our schools by learning from each other. At the end of the session, you will leave
with practical methods of data collection and analysis to inform your Continuous Growth Plan/Action Plan,
school assessment and PD plans and how to keep your parent community informed. This session is for
administrators. Please RSVP to watsonl@lrsd.ab.ca. This session will not run if there are less than 5
participants. The location of the respondents will determine the location of the session.
This session will be an opportunity for Art Teachers to come together to share ideas and resources for
their Art Programs. Susan will share some ideas, sample projects and resources for incorporating TQS
#1d, #2e & #5 into your Art program. Shanan will then share her Soapstone Unit – including the “how- to”
and resource list for tools & supplies needed. We are asking others to bring and share their own
ideas, lessons and resources. If time permits – we will take a tour of Karen Paton’s “Even So” Art Show at
the Lebel Mansion Art Gallery.
*Focus will be mainly Division 3 & 4 Art Teachers

The goal of this session is to look at best assessment practices within the classroom, with an emphasis
on 'Pointless' (or gradeless) grading. While there will be an emphasis on the area of humanities, any
subject discipline is welcome. We will brainstorm ways to embed this type of assessment within practices
and curriculums, as well as best current best practices.

22. CTS and Science

Has it been awhile since you took the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People? Maybe you could use a
refresher? This session will review the Habits, and dive deeper into the highly effective practices
associated with each habit.
*Note: This is not a full 7 Habits session.
Aimed at Colony Staff, however anyone interested in exploring Stars Reading/ Math assessment for a multi-
grade setting is welcome. Teachers are encouraged to bring Fountas and Pinnell resources to see how they
translate to the Stars program.
A collaborative session for any staff who are using an advisory program at the middle school level, or who
are interested in implementing an advisory program into their daily schedule. We will be planning for the
upcoming school and community events for the next few months leading up to the end of the year and
focusing on the purpose of the advisor block of time. Bring your questions and ideas as we look at
scheduling this program.

26. Site-Based Resource Review for Teaching the New
Curriculum
Location: Virtual
Time: 9:00 am to 1:30pm

This is a continuation of the Fall ISC session on site based resources, we will continue building where we
left off. This will be a working session for teachers to collaborate with their on-site grade level partners to
find and organize resources for planning and teaching the new curriculum. Participants will explore the
existing resources in their own schools and classrooms, determining whether they can be used in alignment
with current research and the new curriculum. They will then modify their unit and long range plans, as
needed, to incorporate appropriate lessons resources. Teachers will also gather or search for additional
resources that will aid them in the teaching of the new curriculum. A google meet link will be provided to join
us with your team to collaborate and plan, share some resources you may have found useful in your building.
Must have access to resources in your own building. Please RSVP so a link can be sent.
This session will be a collaborative session to develop plans for the new elementary science curriculum with
a focus on creating unit plans and finding developmentally appropriate resources and activities for young
students. Teachers in K-3 are welcome to join.
We will continue mapping the new grade 3 and 4 math curriculums. We are reviewing the curriculum to see
how it changes from grade 3 to 4. We will also share and brainstorm activities and assessments that support
student learning.

29. Knitting Connections

This Inter-school Collaboration Day, join some like-minded individuals who are interested in building
connections, improving skills, and relieving stress together! Bring your own project or start something new!
(Please bring needles as we don’t have many extras) Crocheters welcome!
Building connections is one of the most important ways to help ensure your professional success and
personal wellbeing. Learning how to create and maintain your network can help you find new opportunities,
improve your skills, and be self-confident in your abilities.
In addition to being fun and creative, knitting has many health benefits. It reduces stress, jumpstarts literacy,
and helps reform inmates. Studies show that knitting can also keep Alzheimer's at bay!
Knitting has been connected to combatting depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction,
eating disorders, and chronic pain, proving that a wide variety of people could benefit from it. Research has
also found that movement, such as knitting, is an effective way to stimulate the brain stem in people with
ADHD, which sends signals to the brain that help us to focus.
We will discuss the PSII practicum so far and build a continuum of support that addresses some aspects
of the TQS. Some topics include Classroom Management, Assessment, Building parental Support and
others.
During this session participants will review LSA google classroom updates, coaches profiles and
plan/prepare for upcoming events. We will be establishing next steps and creating an action plan to move
towards the LSA vision. This session is program specific but others are welcome to chime in with their ideas,
questions or review of their activity based learning opportunities.

32. Supporting Regulation Through Sensory Room
Tools and Activities
Location: Canyon School

Presenter: Jonina Millis
Brad Lissel - Occupational Therapist with Southwest Collaborative Support Services (SWCSS) will assist
Educational Assistants in knowing how to effectively use a sensory room and to provide movement
breaks in other settings to help students with regulation. In order to keep this session small, Brad will offer
2 separate sessions (please attend one or the other), from 9:00-10:30 or 11:00-12:30.
During the time you are not in a session with Brad there will be time for collaboration or completing the
parabytes video series. Also see # 3 for SLP sessions Dallin & Wendy, SLPs, are holding at the same
times.
This is a follow-up from a two-day professional development workshop we hosted back in November with
TSS. Through our three year partnership with the Place Network, our goal is to help LRSD schools build
and implement a comprehensive school model for place based education that supports increased
engagement, character building, community impact and improved learning outcomes for K-12 students.
In this session, we will be discussing recent resources that have been purchased and their circulation
frequency. Next, we will be compiling and sharing sources for purchasing resources, and collaborating on
ways to utilize our annual book budget. Finally, we will create lists of books to purchase based on specific
student needs.

35. Book Study

AB Daley staff is participating in a book study on Learning Language and Loving It (Hanen). We will be
reading & Reviewing Chapters 1-5. If time allows we will be looking at Proloquo2go as a group and how to
use it with our student(s). Please feel free to join us. You will need your own copy of Learning Language
and Loving It (Hanen).
This will be a work session collaborating on improving standard of excellence results on diploma exams.
We will be taking a look at Smarter Marks and analyzing summative assessment items for standard of
excellence and importing into Smarter Markers for assessment item analysis.
This will be a collaborative follow-up to the SAPDC session for Science of Reading / UFLI training. We will
dive deeper into what we learned during the previous training so that we can further implement the UFLI
resource in our classrooms.
Join the math teachers from WCCHS in brainstorming, developing and planning for universal and targeted
math supports for junior high students. The expectation of the day will be to have an outline for an
actionable plan to better support students in math.
