Issue 4 - Term 2 - Week 7 Dear Parents, We are more than halfway through the term. Mid year reports are being finalised and details for teacher/parent interviews will be outlined shortly. All in all, a very busy time for students and teachers. Debating Team Update: Last Monday our debating team competed in Round 2 of the Premiers Debating Challenge against Lalor Park Public school. The topic debated was Homework should be banned. Our team argued in the affirmative and were awarded the debate. Well done and congratulations to all team members. This competition creates a scenario where the two teams decide on the topic an hour before the debate. Teams are then locked away to independently create their argument without input from any adult. The skills of debate that each team develops therefore is truly reflective of the students ability to create and deliver a logical argument.
Friday, 4 June 2010 creating a more sustainable school environment. Very exciting times ahead for student learning as the connected classroom allows for lessons to go beyond the walls of the classroom- to access expertise and share experiences with other schools groups without leaving the grounds. P&C visit to Jasper Rd School: Last Tuesday, members of the P&C executive joined staff to visit Jasper Rd Public School to observe several different forms of interactive technology that is now available to teachers and students. Fact finding questions were asked of the school principal from our neighbouring school with regard to effectiveness of the technology, the ease of installation and the impact that the technology has had to date on student engagement. Two E Beams will be purchased shortly and trialled in the demountables signalling the next phase of the technology plan that will allow all students at Beaumont Hills to have access to full interactive technology in their classrooms. If you are interested in what this new technology can offer please attend the next P&C meeting on Wednesday 9th June at 7.30pm where there will be a full presentation on this new interactive technology. There will be opportunity to ask as many questions as you may have. Upcoming Parent Workshop on Technology: If you have an hour to spare, join us for morning tea while at the same time discovering how interactive technology is being integrated as a learning tool by teachers, to enhance student learning in the 21st century then join us in the video conferencing room near the library on Wednesday June 16th from 9.15-10am. Note this date in your diary. More details will follow as the date draws near. Maths Project with Macquarie University: This week several of our Stage 3 teachers joined colleagues from Sherwood Ridge Public School, Kellyville Public School and Kellyville High School with DET consultants and university personnel to examine

results from individual student feedback to interview questions posed by university staff regarding their understanding of the mathematical concepts presented to them. Analysis of these student responses spring boarded professional reflection and discussion across these learning communities to formulate strategies to be implemented to support the needs of students across all schools present. Closer links will be formed with staff across these school communities next term. This will facilitate high school teachers and primary school teachers observing each others maths lessons where critical observations of best practice will be recorded and then discussed with the clear purpose of developing examples of best practice in the teaching of mathematics. Bronze Awards: Last Thursday the school assembled to acknowledge the achievement and presentation of our Bronze Award winners. To every student who was awarded a Bronze we say Congratulations. Be proud of your achievement. You are a student that others will aspire to be. If you are an award winner but did not manage to lodge your BEAU awards within the allocated cut off time please make sure that you dont miss out for the next presentation. Remember, be proud of your BEAU awards that will lead to a Bronze. Keep them in a safe place and when you have the correct number hand them into the office for collation. It is important that you keep all awards in a safe place at home. It is not possible to replace them if they are lost and how disappointing it would be to work so hard to be awarded sufficient BEAU awards for a Bronze, only to lose them. Take care please and hand them in on time so no one will be disappointed. Some of our Bronze Recipients
effectively use his whip to demonstrate how it is an important tool for many people who work on farms with animals. The weather was kind with the rain holding off. A great time was had by all.
Drum Group with Mr Ison: The inaugural performance of Beaumont Hills Drum Group took place at last weeks Bronze Assembly. Every member of the audience was captivated by the performance of this ensemble- disciplined, rhythmic and polished. Congratulations to all members of this group and to Mr Ison for his commitment to his performers.
Verse Speakers: The other performers at our Bronze Assembly were the Early Stage One and Stage One verse speakers who captivated the audience with the delivery of two verses. Their diction during the delivery was clear and emotive, allowing the true meaning of the verse to be clearly understood and enjoyed by the assembly. Well done to all students in Early Stage One and Stage One on your performance. Our talented Verse Speakers
Kindergarten Visit Fairfield City Farm: On Tuesday all students from Early Stage One went on an excursion to Fairfield City farm reinforcing the focus of their class work throughout this term on Needs and how they are met. Throughout the day students had the opportunity to milk cows, see sheepdogs in action, interact with chickens and observe a stockman

IGA Thank you I had the pleasure of personally visiting the manager of our local IGA store this week to deliver a thank you letter on behalf of our school community in recognition of the $779.00 that was kindly donated. This money will support the purchase of interactive technology into classrooms at Beaumont Hills. IGAs generosity to our school is very much appreciated. Kindergarten Enrolment for 2011. Thank you to all families who have enrolled their child since the last newsletter. If you have not enrolled for 2011 or know of someone who is intending to enrol for next year at Beaumont Hills but have yet to do so then we ask that you remind them to do so as soon as possible. We have a waiting list beginning so in order that our orientation process be organised effectively we need to have an indication of definite numbers of enrolments as soon as we can. Your cooperation will be very much appreciated. Remember the first aspect of our first Kindergarten Orientation Program will be an evening for parents on the 31st AUGUST 2010 at 6.45 pm. Please note this in you diary. Reminder of changes in the distribution of notes: This week will see the beginning of a trial whereby all notes will be placed on the website and every Thursday an email will be forwarded to your designated email account. A link will be provided for easy access to the website where all notes appropriate to your childs stage can be downloaded. It is hoped that through this change notes will not be lost. If students are away all families will still be able to check for notes that may have been posted during the period of the absence. Students will not lose notes in transit on the way home and as it is the Year of Sustainable Learning we at Beaumont Hills are promoting an environmentally friendly workplace by keeping paper copies of notes to a minimum. Occasionally there may still need to be paper copies distributed for interest groups such as dance etc but for all correspondence the website will be the point of access. Thank you to all families who have supplied the school with updated email contacts. If you have yet to do so then you cooperation will be very much appreciated if you could do so as soon as possible. There will be some hard copies available from the office if needed.
Stage 3 Camp meeting: Mr Ison and myself will be holding a Stage 3 Camp information meeting from 6.45pm until 7.30pm before the next P&C meeting on Wednesday 9th June in his S3I classroom. At this meeting parents will have a chance to view a DVD of activities and the facilities of the Great Aussie Bush Camp and also have the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have. We look forward to seeing you then. Heather Thomas Principal Assistant Principals Report Early Stage 1 What a busy second term our ES1 students are having!
