Part – B Micro-Project Report
Title of Micro-Project:How to develop the presentation skills in dialogue, speeches,
presentations, etc.

1.0 Rationale: (Importance of the project)

Nuclear power and hydropower form the backbone of low-carbon
electricity generation. Together, they provide three-quarters of global low-
carbon generation. Over the past 50 years, the use of nuclear power has
reduced CO2 emissions by over 60 gigatonnes – nearly two years' worth of
global energy-related emissions.
However, in advanced economies, nuclear power has begun to fade, with
plants closing and little new investment made, just when the world requires
more low-carbon electricity. This report focuses on the role of nuclear power
in advanced economies and the factors that put nuclear power at risk of
future decline. It is shown that, without action, nuclear power in advanced
economies could fall by two thirds by 2040.

2.0 Aims/Benefits of the Micro-Project:

It generates nearly 800 billion kilowatt hours of electricity each year and
produces more than half of the nation's emissions-free electricity. This
avoids more than 470 million metric tons of carbon each year, which is the
equivalent of removing 100 million cars off of the road.
The Benefits of Nuclear Power Plant are:
 One of the most low-carbon energy sources.
 It also has one of the smallest carbon footprints.
 It's one of the answers to the energy gap.
 It's essential to our response to climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
 Reliable and cost-effective.

3.0 Course Outcomes addressed:

Nuclear energy produces radioactive waste
A major environmental concern related to nuclear power is the creation of
radioactive wastes such as uranium mill tailings, spent (used) reactor fuel,
and other radioactive wastes. These materials can remain radioactive and
dangerous to human health for thousands of years.
1. Maintain the optimized working of the Nuclear Power Plant.
2. Select the adequate mix of power generation based on the economic operation.
4.0 Literature Review:
Nuclear power plant is a thermal station in which the heat source is a nuclear reactor.
The heat source is used to generate steam which dives a steam turbine collected to
an electric generator which produces electricity. Electricity was generated by a
nuclear reactor for the first time ever on September 3, 1948 at the X10 Graphite
Reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in the United States, and was the first nuclear
power plant to power a light bulb. The IAEA reports that there are 437 nuclear
power reactors in operation, and 69 nuclear power reactors under construction in 31
countries around the world.

 What do means by Nuclear Power Plant :-

The conversion to electrical energy takes place indirectly, as in conventional
thermal power stations. The fission in a nuclear reactor heats the reactor coolant.
The coolant used may be water even liquid metal depending on the type of reactor.
The reactor coolant then goes to a steam generator and heats water to produce steam.
The pressurized steam is then usually fed to a multi-stage steam turbine. After the
steam turbine has expanded and partially condensed the steam, the remaining vapor
is condensed in a condenser.
The condenser is a heat exchanger which is connected to a secondary side such as a
river or a cooling tower. The water is then pumped back into the steam generator
and the cycle begins again. The water-steam cycle corresponds to the Rankine cycle.

 Source of Nuclear Power Plant :-

The fissionable material used in the reactor is called as fuel. The commonly used
fuels are Uranium, Plutonium and Thorium. It can be U-235, U-238, Pu-236 or Th-
232. Uranium is mostly preferred as it has high melting point.

 Working of Nuclear Power Plant :-

The water in the core is heated by nuclear fission and then pumped into
tubes inside a heat exchanger. Those tubes heat a separate water source
to create steam. The steam then turns an electric generator to produce
electricity. The core water cycles back to the reactor to be reheated and the
process is repeated.
5.0 Actual Methodology Followed:

1. Note down the topic and then search information about the assigned topic.

2. Take reference about the topic from the subject teacher.

3. Do discussion among team members and distribute sub- topics accordingly.

4. Search information using various sources on the particular sub- topic.

5. Prepare the model using various sources available.

6. Prepare report on the model made.

7. Sort the information accordingly and type the required Part- A, B.

8. Arrange the data of the searched information and report made and submit the
finalized document’s printouts to the teacher.

7.0 Outputs of the Micro-Projects:

Successfully get all Information on Nuclear Power Plant

8.0 Skill Developed / Learning outcome of this Micro-Project:

 Teamwork
 Communication skills

9.0 Applications of this Micro-Project:

 To understand Nuclear Power Plant in our institude.

Conclusion:
Nuclear power plants are also capable of producing huge quantities of
electricity, further reducing the need for additional coal or gas power
plants. Since nuclear plants can produce so much energy, far fewer are
needed in order to meet demands than are coal or gas plants.
