“Ang pagmamahal ko sa ating syudad, General Santos City, ay di mapapantayan ng kahit anong
serbirsyo na pwede nating mabigay. Gagawin ko ang lahat makikilala ang ating syudad sa buong mundo.
Sa paggawa ng Pelikula ang isang paraan para makikilala tayo. Mahal na mahal ko ang ating syudad” –
Direk Alan Filoteo

Cinema is a complex art form that has become an integral part of the culture around the world. It has
inspired and entertained us for generations and continues to do so today. From the earliest days of motion
pictures, filmmakers have been able to tell stories in a unique and powerful way. One of the great
filmmakers in our local is Mr. Alan Filoteo.

His dedication to film and his commitment to the advancement of culture is what he is known for. In
2009, he graduated Computer Engineering at the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University. He pursued his
major at the University of the Philippines where he took an intensive course/workshop in Film Directing.
The FilCor Multimedia Studio is a production service company of Direk Alan Filoteo established in 2010.
He worked as a contractor for quality video services for the National Government Units and other
companies in Region XII where he can be a director, cinematographer, animator, and video editor.

"Nene" was Alan Filoteo's first independent short film, which was selected at the 5th Cinema Rehiyon,
10th Guerilla Filmmaking, and 8th Mindanao Film Festival in 2013. He got a Citation award at the
ToFarm Film Festival in November 2016.

Furthermore, he produced his second short film, "Garbo" in the same year in December. The film was
selected to be shown at the 11th Mindanao Film Festival, exhibited in the 8th Cinema Rehiyon, and won
the International Film Festival Manhattan Virtual Events Directors Award / Independent Achievement
Award last November 19, 2020.

The recent film directed by Alan Filoteo in partnership with the production of Cronasia Foundation
College Inc. is The Restless Heron (Su Di Makapangintelen a Talik), a full-length film about the history
of the Sultanate of Talik that is based on the dissertation of Professor Cris Hannibal, one of the Professors
in the MSU-GenSan History Department. The untold odyssey and challenges of the Maguindanaons
during the late 19th century and early 20th century were exposed in the film. Direk Alan believed that if
this history will be visualized through film, it will reach a great number of audiences which also promotes
the local history within South Cotabato.

Direk Alan Filoteo, “The Passionate Filmmaker of Mindanao” is the title that has been recognized to him
by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts; Ani ng Sining. Indeed, the passion he has for
filmmaking brings life and color to the culture. For many filmmakers, it is truly the passion that dwells in
them that drives them to stay and commit themselves to the field. In this month of National Arts, let us
take off our hats to the artists who make this land full of pride and honor.
