CYBER SAFETY TIPS


ONLINE SOCIAL MEDIA | BANKING

Dear Students, Please read significant information and kindly note following
guidelines, tips and instructions to take immediate action for your cyber and
mobile safety during outdoor, indoor and at work

A. MOBILE SECURITY & IDENTITY SAFETY TIPS


(MOST IMPORTANT)
IMEI Number :
An IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. Think of it
as your phone's fingerprint or ID Proof that will help your Country’s Cyber
Cell to locate or trace or track your Mobile while it’s lost, stolen, misplaced
or compromised.

It's a 15-digit number unique to each device.

How to find my IMEI number?


1. Tap the. Dial Pad Phone app icon.
2. Dial *#06# in your keypad.
3. The screen displayed will show you the IMEI number of
your current device as well as the Serial Number (S/N). The
displayed screen may look different according to the
Android OS version your device is running
4. Please take screen shot of your IMEI Number and send a
copy of the same to your email id. Please save it in a folder
on your desktop with a folder name IMEIMYMOBILE. In
case your mobile gets stolen, you will always have a copy
for submission to the nearest Police Station or Cyber Cell
or while submitting your complaint online on the cyber cell
website of your country.

B. BANKING
1. Net banking - Please never keep passwords with your House Name, Family
member’s Name, Full Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number or Car's
Number Plate.
2. ATM CARD PIN – Never keep your Date of Birth and Vehicle’s number
plate. Never set your Pin Number in sequence as odd or even numbers.
You can set the ATM PIN for example 3174
3. In case of netbanking always use a password that is minimum 8 characters
with Capital Letters, Small Letters, Symbols and Numbers example
MyeYecr0$0#5t
4. Please always change your ATM PIN and Net Banking password once in 3
months

C. SOCIAL MEDIA SAFETY TIPS & GUIDELINES


• Prefer using Whatsapp Business which has maximum safety
• Never add unknown users. Block and Report Immediately
• Please only keep whatsapp groups not more than 3 to 5 with only known
users
• Only promote your professional services using Facebook Business Page or
Whatsapp Business or Instagram.
• Please only keep your family picture or personal picture visible to known
contacts over whatsapp or any similar social media applications.
• DO NOT click on every URLS that is available on internet until you are sure
its legitimate
• DO NOT click on any links sent in email address, especially the short ones
• DO NOT click on any links sent on WhatsApp
• SCAN your mobile every week for security related issues
• DO NOT install any tools or program without checking reviews using
googleplay
• ALWAYS use google play or Apple app store to download the program BUT
after checking reviews and feedback from your circle of trust or family
• Remove unnecessary programs from mobile to keep it clean and tidy
• Never store your personal photos on your smart phone for not more than
2 to 3 days. Please always backup your images to googleimages or
googledrive. This will protect your images from being misused by the
hacker.
D. EMAIL ACCOUNTS

Please change all passwords of all personal and corporate email ids every 3
months. Always use a password that is minimum 8 characters with Capital
Letters, Small Letters, Symbols and Numbers example MyeYecr0$0#5t
.

Cyber Crime Reporting Procedure :


In case you find any suspicious activities happening on your phone or
feel that mobile, email id or social account is being hacked or if any
unknown user is causing problems or any kind of cyber attack noticed
what should I do?

There is nothing to panic. As early as possible, please contact CYBER


CELL DIVISION OF KERALA POLICE using the below details or send a
detailed complaint to the below email id or locate and visit the
nearest police station using google map.
