ECE730 IP Addressing Tutorial
ECE730 IP Addressing Tutorial
1. Given the following IP address, determine the class of address, subnetmask, broadcast
address and host range:
a. 50.0.0.0/8
b. 70.0.0.0/10
c. 172.16.0.0/24
d. 172.16.64.0/20
e. 192.168.10.128/25
f. 192.168.10.32.28
2. Determine the type of the following IP addresses, is it a network address, broadcast address
or a valid host address?
a. 172.16.0.255/20
b. 192.168.10.16/30
c. 10.2.1.255/23
3. Determine the subnet addresses for the following IP addresses:
a. 10.0.0.0/10
b. 172.16.0.0/20
c. 192.168.10.0/27
4. You have been given an IP address block of 172.16.128.0/22. Design a variable length
subnetmask (VLSM) IP addressing scheme that can accommodate the following network that
consists of:
a. HQ Office requires 300 hosts;
b. Sales Office requires 100 hosts;
c. HR Office requires 10 hosts;
For each subnet, determine the subnet address, subnet mask and available host range. List
one advantage of VLSM as compared to fixed subnetting.
5. Figure below shows a network topology that is based on a hierarchical network design.
Plan appropriate IP addressing schemes for all networking devices and hosts.
