THE TRADERS POINT HUNT ANNUAL HUNTER TRIALS Traders Point Club House Hunt Club Road Saturday

Sept 24th, 2011 Celebrating 77 Years of Tradition


Class 1 Hunter Pace (Start Time 10:00AM) (formal attire not required) Hunter pace will consist of a marked course to be ridden in teams of two (2) to four (4) riders. Course will be set up for jumpers & hill toppers. One rider should jump each jumpbut no penalty will be given if all or no riders jump. First place will be decided by the team closet to (under or over) optimum time. Hunter Chase (Start Time 10:45AM) (formal attire not required) Hunter Chase will consist of a marked course to be ridden in teams of two (2) to four(4) riders. All riders should jump but no penalty for those who choose not to jump. The fastest team wins.

Class 2

Classes 3-17 require either traditional hunt or show attire (hunt/show/dressage coat, stock tie or rat-catcher, light colored breeches, ASTM helmet and tall boots.)
The Up & Coming Rider Series Classes 3, 4, & 5 honor our young and new riders Class 3 Lead Line (Start Time 12:00PM) Open to young riders on a pony or horse to be lead in a circle around the club house field. Helmet, saddle and bridle required. Class 4 Junior Hunter Hack (Thornwood Farm Challenge Trophy) Open to juniors 18 years or under. To be shown on the flat at a walk, trot & canter. Rider may be asked to take a jump at judges discretion. Green Horse/Novice Riders Over Fences (John H. Bookwalter Memorial Perpetual Trophy) Open to Riders on a green horse, where the horse has hunted less then two (2) years and/or Novice Riders who have hunted less then two (2) years. To be shown over fences.

Class 6

Senior Hunter Hack (Wild Air Farm Senior Hunter Perpetual Trophy) Open to gentlemen & ladies 50 years and over. To be shown at a walk, trot & canter, and judged on suitability as a gentlemens or ladys hunter. Family Class (Dr. & Mrs. Robert M. Raber Perpetual Trophy) Open to members of a family or group of friends. Teams of two (2) or more, with riders to be judged as a unit. To be shown on the flat at a walk, trot & canter.

Class 7

Class 8 Ladies Side Saddle Open to ladies riding astride with traditional hunt or period clothing. To be shown on the flat at a walk, trot & canter. (please note that side saddle riders may also enter any other flat or over fence class. This is the only class that restricts to side saddle only) Class 9 Pairs of Hunters (Russ Mueller Memorial Perpetual Trophy) To be ridden abreast over fences. To be judged on performance, manners, way of going, & similarity. Handy Hunter (Bennet Memorial Perpetual Trophy) This may be ridden as a team of up to three (3) riders or as a single rider over fences. To be judged on performance, manners, & handiness of horse & rider. Only one (1) person per team needs to do any given task. Jumping is not mandatory for every rider. Following, watching ahead, keeping distance & maintaining good hunt etiquette count. Fox Hunter Working Hunters (L.S. Ayres Challenge Trophy) To be ridden in a group of Two (2) or Three (3). Each rider will have a course to lead. 1st rider will do his/her course with teammates behind, after finishing course 1st rider will drop back and 2nd rider will ride his/her course, teammates to follow, when finish 2nd rider will drop back for 3rd rider to lead. The Hunter Championship Series Riders who participate in classes 12-15 will be eligible for the Grand Champion Wild Air Farm Perpetual Hunter Championship Trophy and the Reserve Champion honors. Class 12 Working Field Hunter (Backstretch Farms Challenge Trophy) This may be ridden as a team of up to three (3) riders or as a single rider over fences. To be judged on performance, manners, & way of going. Class 13 Corinthian Gentlemens Hunter (Jake Challenge Trophy) Open to gentleman members with colors of their recognized hunts. Gentlemen should ride in Scarlet or the colors of their hunt club. To be shown over fences. Appointments to be counted at 25% & brilliance to be emphasized in performance. Jumping required.

Class 14 Corinthian Ladies Hunter (Eleanor Dickson Frenzel Perpetual Trophy) Open to lady members with colors of their recognized hunts. To be shown over fences. Appointments to be counted at 25% & brilliance to be emphasized in performance. Jumping required. Class 15 Hunter Hack (Burford Danner Memorial Perpetual Trophy) To be ridden & a walk, trot and canter, and hand gallop. May be required to trot a fence. Riding on a relaxed rein to be emphasized. The Happy Hour Series To end the show days, riders can cut loose and have a little FUN! Class 16 Down to the Last Drop Riders will be given a cup full of water and asked to perform a variety of tasks that could include walk, trot, canter, and jumping. Rider(s) with the most water remaining in his or her cup at the end wins. Note: Format of this class (i.e., race, relay, or skill) TBD day of the show. The Expert Huntsman Riders will demonstrate their expertise as a huntsman by performing tasks such as removing their hunt coat and hanging it on a standard, cracking a hunting whip, dismounting and remounting, pouring and drinking a stirrup cupall while mounted. Tasks may be added at the discretion of the committee. Water will be provided for those with no other liquid to pour in their cup.

Class 17

Hunter Championship & Reserve Honors (Wild Air Farm Perpetual Hunter Championship Trophy) Awarded to the top two (2) horses acquiring the most points in classes 12,13,14 & 15 Sportsmanship Award (Misty Memorial Perpetual Trophy) Awarded to a rider who demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship throughout the Hunter Trials. A special committee will select the recipient of this award. Best Turned-Out Field Hunter (Otto N. Frenzel Jr. Memorial Perpetual Trophy) Awarded to the rider who is best turned out for a fox hunt.

Where: Courses: When: Judge: Awards: The Traders Point Hunt Club, Club House & Wild Air Farms. Parking at TPH Club House. Courses will consist of fences & terrain typical of TPH hunt country. There will be fences approximately 2-3 feet in height. Saturday, September 24, 2011 beginning with the Pace at 10:00 am. Phyllis Heck Trophies; Ribbons to sixth place, & Perpetual Trophies will be awarded for each class. Trophy & ribbon will be awarded to the Hunter Championship Series Grand Champion & a ribbon to the Hunter Championship Series Reserve Grand Champion. Points to be assigned to places 1 thru 4 in class 12 thru 15 as follows: 1st place 5 points, 2nd place 3 points, 3rd place 2 points & 4th place 1 point. Special awards will be presented for sportsmanship & best turned-out field hunter. Entry fees will be $10.00 per class. For the family, pairs & team classes the entry fee is $8.00 per rider. Make checks out to Traders Point Hunt. Corinthian Classes are limited to horses hunted at least 5 times with a recognized hunt & known by their respected Master of Fox Hounds to be a qualified field hunter. Green Horse/Novice Riders Over Fences is open to riders on a green horse, where the horse has hunted less then two (2) years and/or Novice Riders who have hunted less then two (2) years. Riders must be of amateur level, either members of a recognized hunt, students of the military, members of USPC/USEA/USHJ, junior members of TPH or invited guests. All Participants, other than the students of the military, must wear proper show/formal hunt attire from classes 3 to 17.

Appointments: All participants of The Corinthian Classes are required to have appropriate hunt attire, hunt whip, sandwich case with sandwich, (bread & butter-no crust) traditional bit, flask(gentlemens brandy; ladies sherry) breastplate with martingale, no saddle pad, no stirrup pads, white gloves. Whipper-ins: whip, stirrup leather, wire cutter or knife. Local Rules:

Junior riders may participate in all classes provided special requirements of the class are honored. Hunting soundness is required of all entries. All participants MUST SIGN A RELEASE before schooling and competition. Horses to be judged on performance & way of going, with manners & suitability of horse to rider emphasized, except as otherwise specified in a class description. Braiding will be required for The Corinthian Classes. Classes may be cancelled at the discretion of the Hunter Trials Committee. Limit two (2) horses per rider per class. The Traders Point Hunt, The Committee and Land Owners will not be responsible for any damage, accident, or injury occurring before, during, or after the event. All entries are at sole risk of the rider & horse(s) owner.
