Title: _______________________

Sustainable development keyword: Climate Change

Introduction
Afforestation is the establishment of a forest or stand of trees (forestation) in an area where
there was no previous tree cover. Many government and non-governmental organizations
directly engage in afforestation programs to create forests and increase carbon capture.
Afforestation is an increasingly sought-after method to fight climate concerns, as it is known to
increase the soil quality and organic carbon levels into the soil, avoiding desertification.
Afforestation is mainly done for conservational and commercial purposes.[1]
The rate of net forest loss decreased substantially over the period 1990–2020 due to a reduction
in deforestation in some countries, plus increases in forest area in others through afforestation
and the natural expansion of forests. A 2019 study of the global potential for tree restoration
showed that there is space for at least 9 million km2 of new forests worldwide, which is a 25%
increase from current conditions.[citation needed] This forested area could store up to 205 gigatons of
carbon or 25% of the atmosphere's current carbon pool by reducing CO2 in the atmosphere and
introducing more O2.
Various governments and nongovernment organizations (NGO’S) plays very importsnt role in
afforeststion this project is based on a particular ngo FOREST CREATORS which is alresdy working in
this field.

Forest Creators!
they at Forest Creators believe that Development and Afforestation are not
mutually exclusive, they want to demonstrate this by giving forests a new
definition; one that is relevant in this rapidly developing world. they want
development, but they also want our nature to be preserved.

they want Factories, But they also want to be Carbon Neutral manufacturing
products. they want Better & Wider Roads, Rail & air connectivity to reach our
loved ones faster, safer but they also want to save the earth from the green
house emissions.

Mission
Their mission is to bring back our lost forests, they do it by creating them using Miyawaki
Method.

they believe it is time to shift from manicured landscapes to purpose based

plantations that contribute to better air quality, water conservation, checking
global warming and supporting the overall ecosystem. Forest Creators is
creating Miyawaki forests that are 100% organic, wild, fast growing & self
sustainable. they wish to Create a new definition of forests – forests that are
compact and modular; forests that can be ‘inserted’ in every empty spaces
around us.

we shouldn’t be heading out of our everyday living/working areas to enjoy the

nature. they wish that Nature should be part of our everyday life.

they Created our first Myawaki Forest of 1500 trees way back in 2014. And they
haven’t stopped since & till date planted & influenced States & Industries &
individuals to plant more than a million trees by creating Miyawaki forests across
India.

At their Not-for-Profit Foundation, they are now driven with a single Mission :100
Crore trees by 2030. And help Mother nature restore the ecosystem & try &
make this world a better place for our future generations.

What is Miyawaki Method?

Innovated and pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, the Miyawaki technique is an
effective, smart, and a sustainable way to build native, dense forests. What makes this renowned
method so efficacious is its ability to ensure 10x faster plant growth and a plantation that is 30x
denser than the traditional methods of growing forests.

The secret to achieving these incredible results lies in planting dozens of native species close to each
other. This leads to the growth of a forest that can become maintenance-free after the first two years!

The role of afforestation in climate action

 Afforestation – establishing a forest on land not previously forested – is

one of the most effective means of tackling climate change.

In its August 2021 report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), made it clear
that deforestation is a direct cause of the increased presence of CO2 in the air over the past
decade, a rise incomparable to any other period in the past two million years. Forests are carbon
sinks; they cycle damaging carbon out of the atmosphere and transform it into biomass through
photosynthesis.

Afforestation can slow the impact of climate change while also addressing other environmental
issues, such as barren land and soil erosion. Research from Crowther Lab showed that one
trillion new trees could absorb one-third of CO2 emissions made by humans. In fact, an
additional 25 percent of forested area could absorb 25 percent atmospheric carbon, making a
significant impact on rising temperatures globally.

Conclusion
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) like Forest Creators play a significant role
in the funding and implementation of social forestry projects in developing nations,
although it is difficult to quantify the scale of afforestation, the number of NGOs
involved, and the funds which they commit to such projects. It is recommended that
far more publicity should be given to the need for afforestation in order to encourage
NGOs to expand their activities in this field. There should be greater coordination
between NGOs, governments and inter-governmental organizations, and closer links
between NGOs themselves. Steps should also be taken to strengthen the technical
capabilities of NGOs in forestry.
How we made this report

To make this project we contacted the Ngo through its official email-id, given in its website and asked
them a few questions related to their work on afforestation, which are listed below:

 Why was your organisation founded?

 What is your actual mission?
 Is there any particular method you use for afforestation?
 what are the most important projects received by your organisations and what are your
future prospects?
 How do you choose the correct planting site?
 How did you motivate yourself to take up this challenge which anyone hardly does?
 How can someone who is willing to help can contribute to your cause?

Then thereafter we created the final project by using their answers and also by mentioning : what is
afforestation, its importance, about the NGO, their mission, their contribution in both analytical and
graphical form, different techniques used by them, etc
