Q4 Mathematics 4 Week2

This document provides a lesson plan for teaching students in Grade 4 how to solve routine and non-routine problems involving squares, rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. The lesson includes introducing shapes found around the home, estimating and measuring area, studying word problems, and assessing students' understanding through additional problems. Students will use the four-step problem-solving plan (understand the problem, plan a solution, carry out the plan, check the answer) to solve multi-step word problems involving finding the area of different shapes.

IV. LEARNING PHASES AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES

I. Introduction MAY 8, 2023
Shapes are around us serving its own purpose in our lives. Can you imagine a world where objects are of the
same shapes? What will this world look like? How will this affect our lives?
Go around your house and identify objects corresponding to the different figures you have studied in the
previous lesson. Complete by making estimates using appropriate units of measurement of the dimensions and
by getting the actual measuring instruments.
Figure Actual objects found in the Your Estimate Actual Area
house
Parallelogram b= b=
h= h=
A= A=
Triangle b= b=
h= h=
A= A=
Trapezoid b= b=
h= h=
A= A=
Rectangle b= b=
h= h=
A= A=
Square b= b=
h= h=
A= A=

Did you get the correct area of the objects you found in your house? What can you say about your estimate and
the actual area of each object? Are they the same? Do you know what the area is?
Area is the number of square units that covers the surface of a closed figure. Area is measured in square units
such as square centimeter, square feet, square inches, square meters, etc.

In solving problems, we must use the Polya’s steps or the 4 Step Plan.

Read and Study the following.
Mrs. Perez bought a rectangular shaped dining table with a length of 4 meters and a width of 2 meters. What is its
area?
Asked : the area of the dining table
Given facts: length =4meters and width 2 meters
Operation: Multiplication
Number Sentence: 4m x 2m = N
Solution: 4 x 2 = 8
Answer: The area of Mrs. Perez dining table is 8 square meter or 8m2
Study another problem below.
A wooded area is in the shape of a trapezoid whose bases measure 128 m and 92 m and its height is 40 m.
What is its area?
A : area of the wooded part
G : bases 128m and 92 m, height is 140m
O : addition, multiplication and division
N : (128 + 92) x 40 = N
2
S : 128 + 92 = 220
220 x 40 = 8, 800
8, 800 ÷ 2 = 4, 400 square meters or 4, 400 m2
A : The wooded area measures 4, 400 m2

Learning Task 1: Read and Solve the following Problems. Use the 4-Step Plan by supplying the needed information
in each letter below.

1. A resident lot has the shape of a parallelogram. Its base measures 20 meters. The distance between the 2
parallel sides is 8 meters. What is the area of the lot?
2. A triangular landscape has a base of 24 meters and a height of 12 meters. Find its area.
3. A trapezoidal lawn has an upper base of 16 meters and a lower base is 30 meters. The distance between the
parallel bases is 10 meters. If the lawn is to be planted with Bermuda grass, how many square meters of Bermuda
grass will be needed?
4. A rectangular banner has a length of 5 meters and a width of 3 meters. Find the area.
5. What is the area of a soccer ground square in shape with a side of 8 meters?

E. Engagement MAY 10, 2023
Learning Task 2: Read and analyze each problem below then answer the questions that follow.
1. Consider the trapezoid on the right. If you cut the trapezoid along the dotted
lines, you divide it into two figures. Now, answer the following questions:
- Into what shapes has the trapezoid been divided?
- What are the height and base of each shape?
- Find the area of each shape and add them together.
- How does this sum compare to the area of the trapezoid?
2. Study the drawing on the right. Name at least two familiar figures you
can see in the drawing. Find the area of the figure. If this drawing shows
half of the drawing for a facade of a one-storey building, draw the
whole building. What familiar figures can you identify in the new
drawing? Find the area of the new figure.
A. Assimilation MAY 11, 2023
B. Learning Task 3: Read and solve each problem below.

1. A triangular flaglet has a base of 40 centimeters and a height of 24 centimeters. How many square centimeters
of material were used in making it?
2. A playground in the shape of a parallelogram has a base of 60 meters and a height of 45 meters. What is its
area?
3. The area of a rectangle is 48 cm2. If its width is 6 cm, what is its length?
4. A handkerchief in a square shape has a side of 25 cm. What is its area?
5. The trapezoid bases are 7cm and 11 cm. Its height is 4 cm. What is the area of the trapezoid?
