DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

The Purpose
Descriptive text aims to give or describe (memberi/mendeskripsikan) the detail and factual
information (informasi rinci yang datang dari observasimu) about something or someone in
particular (e.g. My Lovely Cat, My Home Sweet Home, My Favorite Toy). In descriptive
text, you can describe about people, animal, places, objects, etc.
Generic Structure – sebuah teks deskriptif biasanya terdiri dari:

Language features – ciri-ciri teks deskriptif biasanya menggunakan fitur kebahasaan:


 Tense yang digunakan yaitu simple present tense
 Linking verb, seperti be (am, is, are)
 Menggunakan adjective untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk atau sifat dari manusia, binatang atau
suatu benda.

My mother is a beautiful person. She is not tall but not short, and she has curly hair and brown.
Her eyes color are like honey and her color skin color light brown, and she has a beautiful smile.
Her weight likes 120 lbs.
She is a very kind person. She is very lovely, friendly, patient, and she loves to help people. I
love my mom, because she is a good example to me. She loves being in the Church, and she loves
sing and dance too.
She is a very good child, wife and mother. She always takes care of her family. She likes her
house to be clean and organized. She a very organized person, and all things in the house are in
the right place. She doesn’t like messes.
She always has a smile on her face. She is so sweet and lovely. I like when I am going to sleep
or went I wake up or when I am going to go to some places, she always give me a kiss, and when
the family have a problem she always be with us to helps us and to give us all her love.

Yuta is one of the 150 International students at the ELC of Brigham Young University. He is
from Japan. He grew up in Japan, and he is 19 years old. There are six people in his family, a
father, a mother, three sisters and himself. He is the youngest in his family. He is also the only boy
in his family, but now he is in Provo, Utah, studying English. Yuta likes the United States very much
and he thinks everything is cheap. Yuta thinks his English classes are excellent and the teachers
are professionals. Yuta thinks someone in his class is noisy so he doesn’t like that. In his free time
he spends too much time sleeping, so it seems that he has a sleeping sickness.

Task 1: Find sentences with adjectives in it and explain its function in the sentence.

Anna is my best friend. She has dark eyes, a straight nose and a well-formed mouth.
Anna is tall, and has long curly hair. She speaks softly and is gentle with all her
classmates. Anna’s uniform is always clean and neat. Miss Brown thinks that Anna

Terry is a young man who is not yet twenty. He is tall and well-built. You can
say that he is thick with strong arms and feet. His face is rough, with pimples on
both cheeks. When he laughs his pink gums show with is yellowing teeth. He
laughs out loud at his own joke. He has no proper clothes or shoes. He wears a
pair of tall boots on the farm, where he takes care of cows, goats and sheep.
Terry is polite and well-loved by all the workers in the farm.

My Best-friend
I have a lot of friends in my school, but Dinda has been my best friend since junior high school.
We don’t study in the same class, but we meet at school every day during break time and after school.
I first met her at junior high school orientation and we’ve been friends ever since.
Dinda is good-looking. She’s not too tall, with fair skin and wavy black hair that she often puts
in a ponytail. At school, she wears the uniform. Other than that, she likes to wear jeans, casual t-
shirts and sneakers. Her favourite t-shirts are those in bright colors like pink, light green and orange.
She is always cheerful. She is also very friendly and likes to make friends with anyone. Like many
other girls, she is also talkative. She likes to share her thoughts and feelings to her friends. I think
that’s why many friends enjoy her company. However, she can be a bit childish sometimes. For
example, when she doesn’t get what she wants, she acts like a child and stamps her feet.
Dinda loves drawing, especially the manga characters. She always has a sketchbook with her
everywhere she goes. She would spend some time to draw the manga characters from her
imagination. Her sketches are amazingly great. I’m really glad to have a best friend like Dinda
