 Dust or mist
 Splashes of liquids
 Extreme Heat and Cold
 Impact or Explosion

Types of Eye and Face Protection:

Safety Goggles

 Safety goggles are tight-fitting eye protection that completely cover the eyes,
eye sockets and the facial area around the eyes and provide protection from
impact, dust,, mists, and splashes.
 Safety goggles can be worn over prescription lenses.
 Safety goggles are available with perforated, port-vented, or non-vented
frames.Safety goggles should be worn when working with liquids that may
splash or if vapor or airborne particulate protection is required.

Face Shields

 Face shields provide general protection to the entire face for a variety of
hazards, such as chemical splash and extreme heat.
 Impact rated face shields can be worn or face shields must be worn over
primary eye protection ( goggles) when there is a potential exposure to flying

Fit properly
Be fastened with snaps at all times while in the lab (snaps are
preferred to buttons as they allow for quick removal in the event of
an emergency)
Be cleaned regularly and separately from all other clothing
Fully cover the arms to the wrist – short sleeve lab coats are not
permitted in wet labs
Be tucked into the glove or secured at the wrist to prevent exposing
the skin between the lab coat at the glove as well as to prevent the
sleeve from catching on equipment or coming in contact with other
hazards in the working area

Don(Wear ) PPE in the following order:

1. Lab coat
2. Respiratory protection(surgical mask)(if needed)
3. Face/eye protection(goggles, face mask)—adjust to fit
4. Gloves—extend to cover wrists of lab coat
Doff PPE in the following order:
1. Gloves
 Avoid touching the outside of the gloves with bare hands
 Immediately dispose as biohazardous waste
2. Face/eye protection(goggles, face shield)
3. Lab coat
 Unfastenties/buttons/snaps
 Remove by touching the inside of the lab coat
 Turn inside out
 Fold or bundle and place in designated receptacle for decontamination
or dispose as biohazardous waste
4. Respiratory protection(surgical mask)
 Grasp bottom then top ties or elastics and remove
 Placeindesignatedreceptaclefordecontaminationordisposeas
