Background of the Study

Teachers had to switch to online instruction during


the Covid-19 outbreak with little time for preparation
and using resources that few had mastered fluently.
Different abilities and competencies are needed for
online teaching than for traditional education. In
addition to having technological know-how,
teachers need to create relationships with their
pupils and address their social, emotional, and
academic requirements.

Statement of the Problem
The purpose of this study was to determine the challenges
encountered by the teachers of Cebu Eastern College as a result of
the abrupt transition from synchronous to face-to-face learning.

Specifically, it answered the following questions:

1. How do teachers perceive the transition from online classes to


face-to-face classes?

2. What are the difficulties encountered by the teachers during


the transition?

3.How do the respondents cope with the difficulties during the


transition?
Significance of the Study
The researchers agreed to dive into this kind of topic
because of its relevance, especially today when the Covid-
19 restriction has been lifted and the world is slowly coming
back to normal. Students, teachers, the school, future
researchers, and the school admin in Cebu Eastern College
can benefit from this study.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study:


This study was focused on the Senior High School
Teachers Lived Experiences in the Transitioning from Online
to Face-to-Face Classes. This study aims to determine the
array of burdens of senior high school teachers due to the
sudden transition of learning. The researchers used
structured interviews as a data gathering instrument and
are limited to 8 participants only.
Research Design
This study employed a qualitative method of inquiry. The researcher
employs qualitative research because it uses non-numerical data that
sheds light on the issue and aids in the development and
comprehension of the opinions, motivations, and points of view of the
participants. As it captures the "Senior High School Teachers' Lived
Experiences in the Transitioning Class from Online to Face-to-Face
Classes," this method was chosen to ensure a more representative
sample.

Participants
The researchers must create qualifications or criteria for each participant before
conducting a purposive sampling, which is subjective and necessary to ensure
that participants fit the requirements. These conditions must be met in order for
participants to be eligible for this study. Participants must be certified instructors
at the Senior High School level at Cebu Eastern College, with ages ranging from
25 to 50.
Research Environment
The study was carried out at Cebu Eastern College in Cebu City,
the Philippines, which is situated at the intersection of
Dimasalang and Leon Kilat. Classes for kindergarten to college
are offered on the site. Classes are available up to the
elementary level on their second site. Chinese studies are
available at Cebu Eastern College alongside Filipino and English
courses.

INSTRUMENT OF THE STUDY


The researchers conduct a One-on-One Interview in collecting
data regarding the lived experiences of the senior high school
teachers transitioning in face-to-face classes from online learning.

Data Analysis
After the interview of each respondent, we have gathered enough
data to answer the mentioned problem. The researchers use the
Thematic Analysis in understanding the respondents’ answers.
Thematic Analysis is widely used qualitative data analysis and is a
useful and accessible tool for qualitative researchers.(Kiger & Varpio,
2020). According to Clark and Braun (2013), it is effective to use
theme development because summarizing the data; is much more
than simply interpreting the lived experiences makes sense.

Conclusion
The researchers found that themes of difficulties, challenges,
motivational techniques, coping strategies, positive and negative
impacts of transitions were all important factors on how teachers
handled the situation. These included health concerns, transportation
problems, socialization limitations, students behavior, family problems,
changes in teaching approach, and being confused. Good educators
during the transition included adopting a new approach, being
mentally ready to communicate and provide high-quality education,
prayer, asking advice to colleagues, time management, social
support, patience, and being open-minded. Understanding the lived
experience through the phenomenological approach enriches our
perspective.
Recommendations
The student researchers suggested that the school
administration should conduct a survey of their teachers and
students about their experiences, the Guidance Council should
hold a seminar for each teacher and class, teachers should
solicit feedback from their colleagues and students on how to
make the class more convenient and comfortable, and students
should help support their teachers and classmates in creating
an efficient and enlightening environment. Future researchers
may simulate this study with other teachers and students from
different schools or locations and use it as a reference for future
studies.
