Chapter 3
Methodology

This chapter presents the methodology of the study. It describes the

research design, research locale, participants, sampling procedure,

instrument, administration of instrument and data gathering procedure,

ethical considerations, and treatment of data.

Research Design

The researcher used the phenomenological research design and

descriptive research design. According to (Creswell, 2013) Phenomenological

research design involves an in-depth exploration of participants' subjective

experiences and perspectives. It seeks to understand the phenomena from

the participants' own perspectives and illuminate their unique

interpretations of their experiences. Qualitative research is a process of

naturalistic inquiry that seeks an in-depth understanding of social

phenomena within their natural setting (UTA Libraries, n.d.). Descriptive

research involves gathering data that describe events and then organizes,

tabulates, depicts, and describes the data collection (Glass & Hopkins,

1984). In this study, the researcher used the design in this study, the

researcher utilized a phenomenological research design to gain a deeper

understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by 4P's grantees in

Malaybalay City. By exploring their lived experiences within the program,

the researcher aimed to uncover the essence of their encounters and the

meanings they attach to them. It enabled the researcher to collect, analyze,

interpret, and derive the results of the study. The phenomenological

approach allowed the researcher to capture the rich and nuanced narratives

of the participants, delving into their subjective experiences and providing

valuable insights into their daily lives and interactions within the context of

the 4P's program. By embracing the phenomenological perspective, the

study aimed to contribute to a more holistic understanding of the challenges

and opportunities faced by the grantees and to inform future interventions

and support systems.

Research Locale

The study will be conducted in Barangay 10, Malaybalay City.

Barangay Ten is strategically located at the western portion of poblacion

proper and bounded in the south by Barangay 11, in the north by Barangay

Kalasungay, in the west by Barangay Imbayao and in the east by the

poblacion barangays. It has a total land area of 191.52 hectares. As a

whole, poblacion falls under the 4th type or intermediate B type with no very

pronounced maximum rain period and no dry season. The terrain of the

barangay is characterized by big plains with a rolling portion in one of our

Zone (Zone 6A) with one river and two creeks (Salubsob and a portion of

Mamala Creek). The climate is temperate with longer rain period through

which one could feel the coldness of the place all year round. The soil type

is predominantly clay loam. There are Eight Zones in the barangay. These

sectors are equivalent to the puroks and sectors of other barangays. Each

Zone has its own set of officials that the residents can consult to whenever

they have concerns.

Research Participants

The participants in this research study are individuals who have

received grants from the 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) in

Malaybalay City. The participants will be a diverse group, including both

males and females, from various age groups and socioeconomic

backgrounds. Their selection aims to capture a range of perspectives and

experiences related to the challenges and opportunities of being 4Ps

grantees in Malaybalay City. The participants will be chosen from various

socioeconomic backgrounds, considering factors such as income level,

education, and occupation. This diversity will help identify how the 4Ps

program affects individuals from different economic circumstances and

occupations, providing a comprehensive view of the challenges and

opportunities they encounter.

Results and discussion.

Validation of Instrument
A researcher-made survey questionnaire will be developed based from

a questionnaire. The first part pertains to participant’s profile, the second

part, is the Variable 1 - What are the Challenges and opportunities of 4Ps

Grantees in Malaybalay City?

The participant will encircle the appropriate box in a researcher made

point scale that corresponds to their answer. The content of the Instrument

will be reviewed and validated by the Practical Research Teacher before it

will be launched.

Research Ethics

The researcher will observe ethical considerations in terms of

informed consent, privacy and confidentiality, benefits, plagiarism,

fabrication, falsification, conflict of interest, deceit, and authorship. The

researcher will secure the informed consent from the participants by

allowing them to understand their part in, and purpose of, the study. The

researcher will inform them that it was their voluntary decision whether to

participate or not in the study, and the researcher will value and respect

their decision. Further, the researcher will inform them of their right to

withdraw from participating. For those who decided participate, the

researcher will ensure that their responses will be kept private with strict

confidentiality and all information gathered will be used only for the

completion of the study.

The study will undergo grammarly and plagiarism test facilitated.

The researcher will observe proper referencing. The study will not to add or

construct inaccurate facts or observations in the data gathering. No claims

will be made based on incomplete or assumed results. The study will have

no trace of misrepresentation or manipulation of results to fit a theoretical

expectation, neither was there any evidence of exaggeration. The researcher

will ensure the integrity of the paper. Conflict of interest will not be evident

in this study. There is no intent by the researcher to disclose any

information detrimental to the welfare of the participants.

This study will not invade participants' privacy or coerce them into

acting against their own will. The researcher will ensure no damage in any

way to the participant's self-esteem. The research document will undergo

series of revisions as per advice and recommendations of the Adviser and

Thesis Committee.

Data Gathering Procedure

Data will be gathered through the survey questionnaire after the

researcher secured a letter from the Practical Research Faculty in the

Bukidnon National High School requesting permission to conduct the study.

The assistance of the Barangay Officials will be sought in the administration

of the Instrument. Varies means will be employed in administering and

retrieving the data. These include survey, interview and documentary with

all questionnaires retrieved. Consistent follow up will be done by the

researcher via phone calls, emails and video calls. To validate the data

gathered, the researcher will validate the gathered survey, interview and

documentary analysis.

Data Analysis
Qualitative methods was chosen in this study where a detailed

understanding of a process or experience are discussed, where more

information is needed to determine the characteristics of the issues being

investigated, and the availability of information is non numeric (e.g. text and

visual) form. Such investigation typically necessitate gathering intensive or

extensive information from a purposively derived sample.

In this study the data collected will be analyzed using NVIVO such

as analyzing transcript including auto coding and reporting qualitative

analysis outcome. Results of analysis were interpred and analyzed to draw

conclusions and recommendations for policy reforms.
