BLOCKING
SPIKING
SPIKE
• It is an offensive attack done by forcing the ball to hit the ground without being touched
by the opponent. It is a technique that makes it difficult for your opponent to return the
ball during a rally. It is done with the use of optimum power or strength to hit the ball
downward.
THE BALL SETTING
SET
THE BALL SETTING TECHNIQUE
• It is used in an offensive play, particularly before the spiker attacks the ball. The setter
executes a ready stance while scouting the target landing area. Fingers in both hands
should be spread above the head, particularly near the forehead. Form a triangle using
the thumbs, index, and middle fingers. The rest of the fingers are spread. Be sure that
both hands do not touch each other. On contact with the ball, extend your arms and legs
to toss the ball.
POSSITION
HOW TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL
• Two opposing teams are required for a volleyball game to start.
• Six players for each team should be on the court.
• The game starts with a toss coin.
• The team who wins has the first option to choose a desired court or ball.
• If the team prefers a particular area to occupy, the team becomes the receiving team. .
• The game starts with a serve.
• The server stands behind the service or back line.
• The ball should pass above the net and between two plastic antennas that serve as net
markers.
• Each team is allowed to touch the ball for three consecutive times only.
• The first to touch should not be allowed to touch it again, but another teammate has to
toss it to anther or drive it to the opposite court.
• A defensive block is not a hit.
• This means thee hits are still allowed for the offensive team to continue the attack.
SCOORING
SCORING is done when one of the following happens:
• The served ball lands outside the court.
• The ball hits a teammate or falls on the court.
• A team member committed a foul or violated some rules, such as inadvertently getting
inside the opposite court passing under the net.
• The first team to score 25 points makes a set. In case of deuce or tie, the team to make a
two-point advantage wins the game and makes a set. A team should make two sets to
win the match.
COMMON VIOLATION
• Stepping on a line during a serve.
• Failure of the offensive team to drive the ball over the net.
• Illegally hitting the ball (e.g., carrying or touching the ball with the palm of the hand,
throwing)
• Touching the top of the net with any part of the players’ body while the ball is at play
• OVERREACHING ( a move wherein the hands are extended above the net and into a
portion of the opposing side) may not be considered a foul when the drive was a follow-
through or when the ball, which is still in the opposite side, was blocked successfully. But
it is a foul when it is executed to block the vision of another opposing player.
