How the following conversions can be carried out?
1) Aniline to chlorobenzene
2) But-1-ene to n- butyl iodide
3) Ethanol to but-2-yne
4) Chlorobenzene to p-nitro phenol
5) Tert-butyl bromide to isobutyl bromide
6) 1- Propanol to 2-bromopropane
7) 2- Propanol to 1- bromo propane
8) Propylene to propyne
9) Ethane in to ethylene
10) Propene to isopropyl alcohol

Numericals:
1) The resistance of a conductivity cell containing 10-3 MKCl solution at 25oC is
1500 Ω . What is the cell constant if conductivity of 10-3 MKCl solution at 25oC is
1.5x10-4 Scm-1 ?
2) Two half –reactions of an electro chemical cell are given below:
Mno4- (aq) + 8 H+ (aq) + 5 e- → Mn2+ (aq) + 4H2O (l) E0 = + 1.51 V
Sn2+(aq)→ Sn4+(aq) + 2e- E0 = + 0.15 V
Construct the redox equation from the standard potential of the cell and predict
the reaction is reactant favoured (or) product favoured.
3) Calculate the potential for half-cell containing 0. 10 M K2Cr2O7 (aq),
0.20 M Cr3+ (aq) and 1.0 x 104 M H+ (aq) the half –cell reaction is
Cr2 O7 2- (aq) + 14 H+ (aq) + 6 e- → 2Cr3+( aq) + 7 H2O (l)
4.) One half -cell in a voltaic cell is constructed from a silver wire dipped in silver
Nitrate solution of unknown concentration. The other half - cell consists of a Zinc
electrode in a 0.10 M solution of Zn (NO3)2 . A voltage of 1.48 V is measured for
this cell . Use this information to calculate the concentration of Silver Nitrate
solution
(Given E0 Zn 2+ / Zn = 0.76 V , E0Ag+ / Ag = 0.80 V)

5.) Calculate the emf of the following cell at 298 K.

2 Cr (s) + 3 Fe2+ (0.1 M) → 2Cr3+(0.01M) + 3Fe (s)

Given E0(Cr 3+ / Cr) = -- 0.74 V , E0 (Fe 2+ /Fe ) = --0.44 V

Type equation here .

6.) The conductivity of 0.1 mol L-1 solution of NaCl is 1.06 x 10 -2 Scm-1 .
Calculate its molar conductivity and degree of dissociation.
Given λ ο(Na +) = 50.1 Scm2 mol-1 and λ ο(Cl- )= 76.5 Scm2 mol-1.

7.) Equilibrium constant (Kc ) for the given cell reaction is 10. Calculate E0 cell
A (s) + B 2+ (aq) → A 2+ (aq) + B(s)

8.) The molar conductivity of a 1.5 M solution of an electrolyte is found to be

138.9 Scm 2 mol-1 . Calculate the conductivity of the solution.

9.) In the button cell, widely used in watches and other devices , the following
reaction takes place.
Zn (s) + Ag 2 O (s) + H2O (l) → Zn2+ (aq) + 2Ag (s) + 2 OH – (aq)
Determine E0 and ∆ G0 for the reaction .
(Given E0 Ag+ /Ag = + 0.80 V , E0 Zn2+ /Zn = -- 0.76 V

10.) Calculate the cell potential E , at 25 ° C for the cell if the initial concentration
of Ni (NO 3) 2 is 0.100 molar and initial concentration of AgNo3 is 1.00 molar.
( E0 Ni2+ / Ni = -0.25 V ; E0 Ag+ /Ag = 0.80 V; Log 10 -1 = -1 )..
