ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The students would like to convey their sincerest gratitude and

appreciation to all those who have generously make the work immersion in
Riverside College enjoyable, pique their interest and help them to become more
familiar with their work-related environment related to their field of
specialization. Utmost gratitude is extended to the following individuals:
We show our deepest gratitude to our Almighty God who provided
everything that we needed physically, emotionally, financially, and
intellectually for the completion of the worm immersion. The journey was never
easy but with His guidance, we could be able to conquer it. To Him is the glory
now and forever!
We appreciate the School Administrators of this great institution, our
principal Ma’am Judith Espende, Ma’am Mary Jane Araneta, PhD., - Assistant
Principal for Learner’s Support and Ma’am Girlie Panaguiton PhD. - Assistant
Principal for Academics for obeying the leading of God and birthing and
nurturing the vision of this great institution.
We would also like to thank our research adviser, Mrs. Arlyn Joy O. Pio
who has been our immersion teacher who guided us and supporter throughout
the whole immersion. She has inspired us to become better individuals not
just as a student but also as a person.
To the clinical instructor of Riverside College, we thank them so much for
giving their time and utmost effort in helping us to fulfill the goal of our
immersion. Because despite the busyness, they were able to show us, gave us
important lessons and also guided us to be more familiar to our career fields.
Our utmost regard as well to our very supportive and loving parents who
have painstakingly laid the foundation for our education. They have provided
everything that we need in the ways that they can. They have given the support
that we needed emotionally and lift us every time we feel down. They have been
with us from the very beginning, and we are very grateful for them.
May our Almighty God bless us a hundredfold and guide us in every path
that we will take. To God be the Glory.

Pre-Immersion
Activity 1: The Worker
Work is on your way. Are you prepared to work? Do you have the
potential, character, talents and skills to take up the vigor of
being a worker? What should you possess to become good
worker? How will you prepare for work immersion?

Gikyla Faith A. Mellizo:

Work is an important part of people’s lives. I am prepared to work since

I have the potential character, talents and skills to take up the vigor of being
a good worker. To become a good worker the skills and traits I should possess
I am willing to take criticisms, learn anything and use my skills and creativity
to create the best work. To prepare for work immersion I need to learn work
ethics. To develop a work ethic, I need to be professional, cultivate self-
discipline, being respectful of others and being honest.

Kyla Marie Dequiña:

Work Immersion is near and it is a big part of our 2nd semester curiculum.
While doing this we are allowed to observe and gain experience on the field
that we are about to take in the future and it will be a great help for us, Senior
Highschool students because we are about to open the gates of adulthood and
our working careers. I cannot say that I am prepared to work because honestly
I do not know much about the ethics of work and on how to do it properly but
I do know that I have the potential character, talent and skills to take the vigor
of being a worker in the field that I want to take because I’ve prepared myself
and even though it’s not enough and I still need to learn more, I have a little
and basic knowledge about my chosen field because of research. Although
experience is the most important part of work, that is why work immersion is
a good help for me.

The following characteristics that I must possess to become a good

worker is first of all, hardworking, second is resilience, and third is flexibility.
But then I will not achieve all of it if I do not have the most important character
which is being passionate because how will I last on the work that I have
chosen if I do not have the passion for it?

I will prepare for Work Immersion by researching more about the topics that
are related to the work that is assigned to me so that when I’m already on the
position, I won’t be clueless and I will know the basic things to do. I will also
prepare my mind and body by eating healthy foods and sleeping well so that
my mind and body will not be overwhelmed of the tasks that will be given to
me.

Erieca D. Sison:

All of us will reach many different points of our lives, it may be something you
or something we continue. This is something new and a start for me but yes,
I am prepared, and I am ready. The potential, character, talent and skills are
just few of those things that make up a worker and yes, I do believe that I
possess such qualifications and for the things I lack, I intend to improve myself
in the process which could help me to further and discover the side I didn’t
expect myself to be. Being a worker may be a light title to bear but being a
good one has its own qualifications in many different ways. For me, in order
to become a good worker, one should be ambitious enough to thrive for success
and good work, one should also be reliable for it is the most needed in order
to be qualified in any work. Exposure to a new space requires great
adaptability for us to have a chemistry with our work. I may not be 100%
prepared nor fit to the environment I will be learning in 10 days, but I am
already grateful to be given such opportunity to hone my skills and prepare
for the future ahead of me.

Coline Sebonga

Yes, I am prepared to work. I know that I have the potential, character,

talents, and skills to take up the vigor of being a worker. I believe that as a
good worker, the qualities you should possess are empathy, punctuality,
professionalism, politeness, being cordial, and being prepared to be
corrected/criticized to improve in a certain aspect. I will first reflect on my
attitude and character. Second, I will analyze if this attitude could affect my
performance in my chosen field of work. And lastly, I will research about the
company that I will be working in so that I will know their background and
uphold their policies.

Floyd Andrei L. Gulmatico

Yes, I am prepared for work as our teacher already told us to prepare for an
upcoming work immersion project. I believe I have the potential character,
talent, ands skills to take up the vigor of being a worker and even if I am
lacking in some areas, I can learn things that I lack as I am working on the
field. It is normal to be lacking in some fields as I am still inexperienced and
the main purpose for the work immersion is for the students to learn and gain
some experience in the field of their immersion, if you are not interested then
you will be able to do your best. To become a good worker, I must possess
enthusiasm for the field I am working in. You must also possess a hardworking
character, you must do your best in your work and not be lazy. You must also
possess communication skills to some extent as you will have to talk and be
able to socialize with your coworkers and superiors if you’re asking questions
or need assistance. Lastly, the most basic and the most important thing to
have are proper work ethics. It will help you learn and maintain your
professionalism no matter what field you’re working in.

To prepare for work immersion, I am going to listen and intake as much

knowledge as possible in the pre-immersion phase in our class. I will also
research as to what things the company I am working going to be working on
does. Most importantly, I will learn to be as flexible as I can to adapt in the
environment that I am going to be working in.
Activity 2: Work Ethics “Do’s and Don’ts

employed in the workplace you are assigned.

Reflection:

1. Do you agree to the company’s policy and guidelines,

rules and agreement? Support your answer.

Gikyla Faith A. Mellizo:

I agree to the company’s policy and guidelines, rules and agreements

since it help employers manage staff effectively by defining what is acceptable
and unacceptable in the workplace.

Kyla Marie Dequiña:

Yes, I would agree with the company's policy guidelines, rules, and
agreement, because these are the foundation to make all things in order. These
are the guiding principle of the company, without this, all things in the
organization will be disorganized. Everything is governed by policy guidelines,
rules, and agreement in order to attain a peaceful management of everything
inside the company. It is important to remember that these guidelines are
properly implemented for the safety of both the company and the employees
and no one shall abuse it. It ensures that everyone is treated fairly and that
any disputes or issues can be resolved in a structured and efficient manner.

Erieca D. Sison:

Yes, I do agree with the company’s policy and guidelines, rules and
agreement. For me, policy and guidelines, rules and agreement were made for
the sake of the company and the people, so there is nothing to be disagreed
with if it both supports the company and its people.

Coline Sebonga

I do agree with the company's policy and guidelines, rules, and

agreement. As a work immersion student, I would have to uphold the
company's policy, guidelines, rules, and agreement. I have to respect the
company for they're already doing me a favor of letting me gain experience in
their company.

Floyd Andrei L. Gulmatico

Yes I agree to the company’s policy and guidelines as it not just

beneficial for the company but also to the employees’ to learn as much as
possible and for both to maintain respect with each other.

2. Was there a rule that you think is not acceptable to you?

Why?

Gikyla Faith A. Mellizo:

The rule that I considered unacceptable is the rule that is inhumane

and can harm people, especially innocent people. Since the rule calls for
defining acceptable and unacceptable in places and not recognizing the wrong
action.

Kyla Marie Dequiña:

None, because I think each of the rules are properly implemented and
it does not cross the boundaries of the employees, it is easy to follow and is
not harmful to anyone.
Erieca D. Sison:

None, no rule in the company that I do think is not acceptable. Any

signs of unfair or biased ruling should expect an opposing reaction, and that
is how I base whether the rules are valid or unacceptable.

Coline Sebonga

There is none. I believe that each rule in a company has its own
benefits and will maintain the company’s prestige and efficiency.

Floyd Andrei L. Gulmatico

There was not a single unacceptable rule, as all the rules are fair to
both the side of the worker and employer. The rules are beneficial to both the
company and the employee.
Activity 3: Situational Analysis

Confidentiality in the workplace

Suppose you work in a police station or a law firm and signed a

confidentiality agreement regarding all their cases at hand, suddenly
your friend who was a suspect to a crime asked you for some documents
that are in your office’s possession that may help him in his case. How
would you deal with the situation?

Gikyla Faith A. Mellizo:

As we learned about work ethics in our last lesson. I learned how to

prevent conflict and disagreement in the workplace. The things I learned
will applied to this situation since I signed the confidentiality letter, I ill
explain to my friend politely and professionally that I don’t have the position
to share the information about the case.

Kyla Marie Dequiña:

Maintaining confidentiality in the workplace is important for building and

maintaining trust, and for ensuring an open and honest communication
between clients and employees. Workplace confidentiality can be defined as
keeping the employees, clients, and costumer’s information private. Usually,
it is seen that the organization takes a number of steps to ensure that the
client information remains confidential, but when it comes to employee
information, they may not be so particular. However, this thought process and
its importance needs to be understood.

For me, being a good worker is sticking to your words and acting
profoundly, not allowing personal connections to interfere with work. In this
situation, I signed a confidentiality agreement, and a friend of mine requested
a document to assist him with his lawsuit, I will not give him the documents.
Instead, I will explain that they are confidential and even though we are
friends, I will not exempt him, whatever he tries to do I will not give in to his
request, even by force. I will and I might lose a friend by doing so, but it’s
better than losing my loyalty and honesty, I will honor the agreement and never
allow personal connections to interfere with my work.
Erieca D. Sison:

Professionalism is an act which depends to the person, whether to act

as if you have one or none. A workplace is where professionalism should be in
to process such, one should prioritize the importance of separating work from
personal affairs in order to avoid conflicts that would lead to negative effects
and results. And if I we’re in a situation where I deal with confidentiality
agreements and a friend is trying to use some of his or her connections, I would
assess the situation firmly by rejecting the request. Prior to that situation, a
person working in this field should know the basic rules to understand and
follow of the work and work place he or she is cooperating with. Thus, despite
meeting this types of situations where shows if one has professionalism, it is
a must to give respect to your work by displaying the act of professionalism,
prioritizing the importance of keeping information discrete as they should be
over a mere request from a friend regardless of knowing how crucial the
information that will be given.

Coline Sebonga

If I work at a police station or a law firm and my friend asked me for

some documents that are confidential, of course as an upright and moral
citizen, I will not give in to his or her request for I have signed the
confidentiality agreement. It is my duty to keep all documents non accessible
to those that are not supposed to see it. Even though he or she is my friend, I
would not tolerate his or her behaviors or actions that may affect me and
everyone related to this case.

Floyd Andrei L. Gulmatico

I will be a good worker and protect my professionality and will not let
personal relationships get in the way of my work. As I have also signed a
confidentiality agreement, it is the more reason that I cannot giveaway any
kind of confidential information. I will explain to him that I will not be able to
provide him with the documents he wants, even if he is my friend, he is still
no exemption. However if the file or document that he is asking for is not
confidential and my supervisor have given me permission to show the
document then I will provide it as it won’t breach my agreement with the
company.

Activity 10. Job Interview
A job interview is an interview consisting of a conversation
between a job applicant and a representative of an employer which is
conducted to assess whether the applicant should be hired.

1. During the conduct of the mock job interview, do you

think you did well?

Gikyla Faith A. Mellizo:

During the interview, I could tell that I did well since I answered the given
questions professionally and in respectful ways, and on top of that, I also did
my research on what to do or what to say if you encountered some questions.

Kyla Marie Dequiña:

During the interview, I think I did well. Because I answered the questions
expertly without stuttering and I followed the work ethics while I’m on the
interview area. I answered the questions with passion and determination like
I am in a real job interview.

Coline Sebonga

I think I did well at the mock job interview because I answered all the questions
directly to the point. And I can tell that the interviewer was satisfied with my
answers.

Floyd Andrei L. Gulmatico

During the mock job interview I was able to answer every question that the
interviewer asked with brief but with sufficient information and followed with
some additional information to answer potential next questions. I was able to
properly answer the questions with clarity. With this, I think I did a great job
with the mock job interview.

Erieca D. Sison

Considering the fact that it was my very first formal interview, I think I did
well. My performance was much better than I expected.
2. What are the areas that you think you are good at and
areas that needed to be improved?

Gikyla Faith A. Mellizo:

I think the areas that I am good at are communication, organization, and

teamwork, while I need to improve my computer skills and my handwriting
skills.

Kyla Marie Dequiña:

I think the areas that I am good at is being good in communication, I have

language proficiency especially in english, I am resilient and hard working.
While I need to improve my time management skills and computer skills.

Coline Sebonga

I think the area that I am good at is that I am aware of what I want to be in

the future, that is why I can directly answer the questions related to it. And
for me, the area that I needed to improve on is my confidence because there
are questions that I am not quiet sure how to answer.

Floyd Andrei L. Gulmatico

Despite thinking that I did well during the interview, I think that I still have a
lot of room for improvement. I still need to expand my vocabulary so that I can
better articulate my thoughts. I need to improve my composure so that I can
focus much better on the interview. I was also intimidated by the interviewer,
even though I was able to maintain eye contact I was pretty shaken by the
atmosphere of the interview.

Erieca D. Sison:

I think what got me through is confidence and how I immersed myself as if I

was in an actual interview. Areas such dictation, depth of my responses and
ability to follow up answers do need improvements.

3.Are you more confident now to answer during the job

interview?

Gikyla Faith A. Mellizo:

Yes, since the mock interview gave me some tips on what to do and what to
say. And it is already an opportunity for me if I ever have to do an interview.

Kyla Marie Dequiña:

Yes, since the interview gave me experience and tips on what to do at a real
interview and what questions to answer and how to answer it properly with
respect while being professional and with confidence.

Coline Sebonga

Yes, I am now more confident to answer in a real job interview. Because of my

experience in the mock job interview, I have learned how to deal with questions
that are also asked during an actual interview.

Floyd Andrei L. Gulmatico

Since I already experienced being in an interview, albeit a mock one, I am now

much more confident to answer. I have firsthand experience, so I know what I
need to learn and improve and have a much better view of my own strengths.
I can use this experience to improve on my weak points and hone my
strengths.

Erieca D. Sison:

Yes, now that I was able to experience an actual interview, I am now more
confident with new learnings and experience I obtained.

Activity 19. Daily Task Record/Daily Journal
A daily task record is a work log that summarizes how an employee
spent his time on the job. Through a daily work log, an employee can create
a mental picture of what comprises his day and how he uses his time. It is
also helpful in understanding how productive an employee is during a
particular period of the workday. Accomplish your daily task record.

Day Date Task

APRIL 11, On the first day of immersion, we collected insights from

2023 our clinical instructor in physical therapy about anatomy
1
and physiology, and we were also given the chance to use
or experience the electrical muscle simulation machine.
APRIL In nursing college, we witness the miracle of life, and the
13,2023 clinical instructor also gave us the chance to operate Noel,
2 the pregnant robot that gives birth. Also, we learned the
different vital signs, and Sir Ridge introduced us to Susie,
a medical humanoid robot..
APRIL 14, On this day, we experience how to be an entrepreneur in
3 2023 the course of pharmacology. We made a commercial and
presented our business in front of the class.
APRIL 17, Sir Mac introduces to us the activities that will be
2023 conducted today, including x-ray stimulation, modern and
primitive ways of using it, and the different types of x-ray.
we are the first to try the x-ray simulation and the dark
4
room (where a room is designed to be devoid of light). First,
sir, introduce us to the primitive way to develop an x-ray;
this is what the dark room is used for. The modern, or
advanced, way to take an image is using a computer.
APRIL 18, At the second day of our physical therapy, we discussed
2023 different bandaging techniques and we also execute the
5
techniques. We are also given the testabout anatomyy,
cardiovascular, pulmonary, and integumentary system

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

APRIL 20, In our 6th day, we proceeded to the nursing department,
2023 where we learned the proper way of inserting the catheter
6
from Miss and executed the correct way of scrubbing,
guided by Miss.
APRIL 24, On Day 7 of our immersion, we learned how to observe our
2023 minds and behaviors. In short, we went to psychology,
where the clinical instructors explained to us the pros and
cons of their job. We also learned to identify the four
7 temperaments, namely: sanguine, phlegmatic, choleric,
and melancholic. At the end of the immersion, we also
performed a case study report about the different mental
illnesses, which we explained to the front of the class about
the diagnosis and symptoms of the disease.
APRIL 25, Our day 8 consists of activities about radiologic technology,
2023 which include performing the lumbar spine x-ray as a way
8 to identify if you have scoliosis and introducing the
mammogram, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fixed x-
ray, and ultrasound.
MAY 8, Medical technology in our day 8: microscopy, extracting
2023 blood for CBC tests, blood smears, and blood typing are
some of the activities performed. In the CBS test, it involved
9 the blood smearing, which Sir M.J. taught us how to do,
and later on we performed it individually. Whereas in blood
typing, we learned how to use a method to tell what type of
blood you have with the help of materials and equipment.
MAY 9, On our final day in medical technology, we performed
2023 phlebotomy, or venipuncture, since we collected the blood
10 from the vein. With the guidance of our clinical instructor,
some of my schoolmates and I learned how to perform
phlebotomy.

2023 will be learned, the job opportunities, and the salary. The
salary was stated in dollars, so the head made me convert it
1 into pesos because the others told them that I am good in
math. After the orientation, we were given a lesson in the
skeletal system, and given a quiz afterwards. In the
afternoon, we discussed about anatomy and afterwards
given a chance to use the electrical muscle stimulation
machine.
We were introduced to the Nursing Course. In the morning,
we were given an orientation to the course by the Dean of
April 13, the Nursing Department. Afterwards, the students were
2023 split into 2 groups, one would get a vitals lessons and ICU
orientation in the morning and Delivery Room orientation in
2 the afternoon and vice versa. I was selected for the group
that will have vitals lessons in the morning. In the
afternoon, since the teachers was still preparing, our group
was given a trivia talk by the Dean. Afterwards, the
activities proceed as planned where our group was given an
orientation and return demo in the Delivery Room.
We were introduced to the Pharmacy Course. To start the
April 14, day, we were given an orientation about the course. The
2023 activities that followed split the students into 5 groups. In
the morning we were tasked to make a liniment by following
3 the process set by our pharmacy teacher, make a video
advertisement for the liniment, and make a soap under the
supervision of the teacher. In the afternoon, we were tasked
to make a business plan for the soap we made and present
the said business plan.

We were introduced to the Radiologic technology course. In
April 17, the morning before we were given an orientation, we played
2023 a game to determine who will get a full body x-ray on the
afternoon. Afterwards, we were given an orientation, and a
basic lesson about radiologic technology. The students were
4
then divided into groups to enter the dark room and get an
x-ray. As it was already lunchtime my group was only able
to enter the dark room in the afternoon. After all groups
were able to enter the dark and get an x-ray. We watched
videos about radiologic technology until dismissal.
April 18, It was the 2nd day for the Physical Therapy Course. In the
2023 morning, we had more lessons for anatomy, it included the
integumentary system and pulmonary system. After the
lesson we had a group quiz, the scope was all of the lessons
we discussed in the Physical Therapy course. For the quiz
5 we were initially grouped into 4 groups but was integrated
midway into 2 groups. For the afternoon, the students were
divided into the same groups we had for the quiz with one
group taking a lesson in bandaging first while the other is
taking a tour in the physical therapy clinic and later will
switch places.
April 20, It was the 2nd day for the Radiologic Technology course. In
2023 the morning all the students got a lumbosacral spine x-ray,
in the activity the students were divided in groups of 2 or 3
6
to take turns entering digital x-ray room. In the afternoon,
we were given a tour in the radiologic lab, and was given the
chance to use the CT scan.
April 24, It was the 2nd day for the Nursing Course. In the morning
2023 the students were split into 2 groups, 1 group was
composed of students that was not able to return demo in
the Delivery room, so they were assigned to the delivery
room. The other group which was the group I was in was in
7
the operating room being taught how to attach a catheter
and suturing. In the afternoon, the students were taught
how to use pulse oximeter briefly and had another tour in
the ICU. The last activity for the day was the lesson for
CPR.

2023 given an orientation of the course. In the morning we played
various games in which the prizes are Starbucks gift cards
and was given a form to fill up which will be used later in
the afternoon. In the afternoon, the forms were used for a
8
personality test. The course teacher discussed about the 4
temperaments and the personality of someone belonging in
each temperament. Afterwards, the students were divided
into groups, each group was given a case to study and
determine which mental illness falls into those symptoms.
May 8, We were introduced to the Medical Technology Course. In
2023 the morning we were given an orientation about the course
9
and was taught how to identify blood types. All students
had their blood tested to determine their blood type.
May 9, It was the 2nd day of the Medical Technology Course. We
2023 were taught phlebotomy. To be specific we were taught in
what parts of the body can phlebotomy be applied, what are
10 the common incidents that can happened during the
puncture, and what to do during these incidents. The
students were then given a chance to perform phlebotomy
or have phlebotomy performed on them.

APRIL 24, On our 7th day, we are back at the nursing department. We
2023 learned about the proper way to insert a catheter, and also our
clinical instructor taught us the proper way to do CPR. We were
again exposed to the delivery room and this time I was able to
7
be the head nurse. I practiced proper gloving such as close and
open gloving. We also learned how to wash your hands properly
as well as how to scrub your hands up to your elbows before
you go into the delivery room.
APRIL 25, On our 8th day, it is our first time and the psychology
2023 department. And we had an activity on how we can identify our
temperament. We also had a case study report and a game of
8
solving rebus puzzles. I won the game, and they gave me a gift
check from Starbucks. I haven't had time to go to Starbucks
and use my gift check.
MAY 8, In the continuation of our immersion, we were assigned to the
2023 medical technology department and there we learned how to
extract blood and conduct CBS test and blood smears. We also
9 experienced microscopy. I am able to look at the ovary, kidney,
and pinworm under a microscope. We also learned about blood
typing and even though I already know what my blood type is
I still want to try and test if I really have O+ blood.
MAY 9, On our last day as immersion students, we were still assigned
2023 to the medical technology department. And the last thing we
learned is how to do phlebotomy. I experienced drawing blood
from my classmate and at first, I was hesitant to insert the
needle because I am afraid of hurting my friend but then, our
10
instructor guided me well and assisted me during the activity.
He was really hands-on and is always closely monitoring us.
He is a fun instructor and honestly, I am convinced in enrolling
in the medical technology department for I find the activities
quite interesting.

Activity 25. Accomplishment
Gikyla Faith Mellizo

Immersion on the first day at Riverside College can be described as

enjoyable. But before we proceed to our first immersion subject, which is
physical therapy, Miss Jillian has begun to introduce us to the head of the
department of physical therapy, Miss Jillian led us to the physical therapy lab,
a new learning environment later on. The head of the department introduced
the benefits and explained why physical therapy is worth it and is a good job
if anyone wants to pursue it. During this, we explore anatomy and physiology,
which were taught by Sir Kaleen. After his lesson, he proceeded to test us by
giving us a quiz. In the afternoon, at 1 o'clock, Miss Christel taught us how
the circulatory and pulmonary systems work. After the series of lessons, Sir
Kaleen and Miss began to introduce us to the electrical muscle stimulation
machine, which we students had a chance to try.

At the second immersion site, which is the nursing of college. In this,

the dean of the college, Sir Joselito Murillo takes the opportunity to introduce
himself and the benefits of their course. He also proceeded to describe to us
the proper way of hand scrubbing and entertain us with activities and fun
facts. In the first activity, Miss Shalaine Lumauod introduced us to the
different vital signs and how to recognize them, and we also witnessed and
tried the "miracle of life" (giving birth) with the guidance of our clinical
instructor.

In pharmacology, the clinical instructor that was assigned to us is

Miss. Miss Rebekah makes us do group work to make an advertisement.
During our work, we learned how to be entrepreneurs in the branch of
pharmacology by promoting our product, Pic-A-Scent, by making an
advertisement enticing the community to buy it, a scent that can soothe the
pain out of your body made out of camphor, menthol crystal, peppermint, and
eucalyptus oil. Miss Rebeccah assigned us a group project for which we will be
making a business proposal and proposed it in front of the class. Our business
is named "Bfresh: Be Cool, Be New, Be Fresh," which is a handsoap made
by us using glycerin soap with the help of our clinical instructor.

On our 4th day of immersion, Miss Jillian introduces us to the

Radiologic Technology Department, where our clinical instructor, Sir Mac. To

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

make our day enjoyable, sir proposed a game that would bring out our
competitiveness and energetic selves. Also, he introduces to us the activities
that will be conducted today, including x-ray stimulation, modern and
primitive ways of using it, and the different types of x-ray. Sir, cut the class
into two groups. The first group is us; we are the first to try the x-ray
simulation and the dark room (where a room is designed to be devoid of light).
First, sir, introduce us to the primitive way to develop an x-ray; this is what
the dark room is used for. The modern, or advanced, way to take an image is
using a computer. Sir said that having these is like using a camera since it
only needs one take and no more. In the afternoon, sir taught us fluoroscopy,
and he showed us a video to help us understand it better.

On the 5th day of physical therapy, Sir Kaleen and Miss Christel teach
us about the integumentary system and its physiology. The immersion is fun
just like the first day, when Sir Kaleen divided the class into 4 groups where
we took quizzes in groups about anatomy, pulmonary, integumentary, and
circulatory systems. After that, Miss Christel divided us into 2 groups, which
later on our group won. In the afternoon, at 1:00 pm, our group was assigned
to Si Kaleen, who taught us how to perform different bandages.

In our 6th day, we proceeded to the nursing department, where we

learned the proper way of inserting the catheter from our clinical instructor
and executed the correct way of scrubbing, guided by Miss Shalaine.

On Day 7 of our immersion, we learned how to observe our minds and

behaviors. In short, we went to psychology, where the clinical instructors
explained to us the pros and cons of their job. We also learned to identify the
four temperaments, namely: sanguine, phlegmatic, choleric, and melancholic.
At the end of the immersion, we also performed a case study report about the
different mental illnesses, which we explained to the front of the class about
the diagnosis and symptoms of the disease.

Our day 8 consists of activities about radiologic technology, which

include performing the lumbar spine x-ray as a way to identify if you have
scoliosis and introducing the mammogram, magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI), fixed x-ray, and ultrasound.

Medical technology in our day 8: microscopy, extracting blood for CBC

tests, blood smears, and blood typing are some of the activities performed. In
the CBS test, it involved the blood smearing, which Sir M.J. taught us how to

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

do, and later on we performed it individually. Whereas in blood typing, we
learned how to use a method to tell what type of blood you have with the help
of materials and equipment.

On our final day in medical technology, we performed phlebotomy, or

venipuncture, since we collected the blood from the vein. With the guidance of
our clinical instructor, some of my schoolmates and I learned how to perform
phlebotomy.

The first day of the work immersion started with an introduction to the
supervisor. Afterwards, we were brought to the Physical Therapy Lab in which
we learned about anatomy and were given the chance to use the electrical
muscle stimulation machine. On the second day of the work immersion, we
were assigned to the Nursing Course, there we learned about vital signs and
had an orientation in the Delivery Room and ICU. On the third day of the work
immersion, we were assigned to the Pharmacy Course, we learned how to make
simple liniments and soap. We also made a commercial for the liniment and a
business plan for the soap. On the fourth day of the work immersion, we were
assigned to the Radiologic Technology Course, there we learned about the
various machines used in Radiologic Technology. The students were divided
into groups and were given the chance to enter the dark room and digital x-
ray room where the students got an x-ray of their hands. On the fifth day, we
were once again assigned to the Physical Therapy Course, we learned more
about anatomy and got into a quiz where two groups competed. In the
afternoon, the students were split into two groups where one group would
learn about bandaging while the other takes a tour in the physical therapy
clinic and would later switch places. On the sixth day, we were assigned again
in the Radiologic Technology Course, we were given a chance to get a
lumbosacral spine x-ray and was given a tour of the Radiologic Lab. On the
seventh day, we were once again assigned to the Nursing Course, we were
taught how to properly insert and remove a catheter and how to make a suture
in the morning. In the afternoon, we were given another tour of the ICU and
were taught how to do proper CPR. On the eighth day, we were assigned to the
Psychology course, there we learned about the basics of psychology and were
given a personality test using temperaments. The last activity in the afternoon
was a case study, we were divided into groups with each group given a different
case and the task was to identify the mental disorder of the patient and explain
the disorder. On the ninth and tenth day of the work immersion, we were

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

assigned to the Medical Technology Course, on the first day we learned about
blood typing. On the second day, we learned about phlebotomy and given a
chance to perform it with supervision.

Kyla Marie Dequiña:

My first impression of work immersion is hard and very exhausting

since we will work, but I was mistaken because it was fun, and I did not even
feel any exhaution at all since I was enjoying every minute of it.
On our first day of immersion at Riverside College, Miss Jillian taught us
the basic steps to follow while we are on the school premises, and we had a
short introduction about the school before she guided us to our first immersion
subject which is Physical Therapy. When we arrived, the department head then
told us the benefits if you'll have the physical therapy course and how it will
be a good job to pursue in the future. When we finished, we were then guided
and taught by Sir Kaleen on the anatomy and bone structures of the body and
then later on gave us a test to determine if we were listening to him as he
discussed. On this day, were taught on how the pulmonary and other systems
of the body works.
At the second immersion site, which is nursing, we were taught on how
the baby is born, they called it "the miracle of life" but first, the dean of
Riverside College came to us personally and discussed about the benefits if
you will be having the course nursing in their school. After he's done, we
proceeded to the delivery room, and we were taught how to do the proper hand
scrubbing etiquette and the different vital signs of the patient.
In our third site which is Pharmacology, we learned on how to be
entrepreneurs while making and endorsing our own product. Miss Rebeccah
seperated us into five groups and then gave us an activity to pick and make
our own liniment oil scent, but first we need to follow her instruction as we do
it because we are dealing with chemicals, when we finished making the
product she then assigned us to make a proposal and an advertisement
according to the product that we made, on the afternoon we were taught on
how to make soap while using glycerin, food color, and scents and with the
same groups, Mis Rebeccah assigned us again to make another proposal.
The fourth day of immersion was fun because we were introduced to the
Radiologic Technology Department of the institute and we did a short
summary and introduction of this course, Sir Mac taught us the modern and
primitive way of developing an x-ray, we learned that in a primitive way, you
must be very precise on your movement because one wrong move and your

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

film will be broken and you will pay for it, we learned also about how easier it
is nowadays to develop an x-ray because you can do it in a span of seconds,
not like how they did it many years ago.
On our fifth day, we came back to Physican therapy, Miss Crystel and Sir
Kallen taught us all about the integumentary system, they also taught us on
how to do first aid and bandages properly and then they toured us to their
quarters which is the Physical Therapy quarters. We explored different
equipment's and tools of physical therapy, and we met other patients in
recovery stage as well.
On our sixth day, our second day of nursing. We were taught how to
properly insert the catheter and the right execution of hand scrubbing.
On day seven, we had a lot of fun while we are in psychology class because
we had plenty of games that were prepared by the instructors, and we did a
character personality analysis of our temperaments. After that, the instructors
gave us a case study report where we will guess the mental disorder, the
causes and diagnosis and symptoms of the patient.
On day eight, we came back to Radiologic technology. Sir mac introduced
to us the different types of x-rays namely MRI, ultrasound and fixed x-ray. He
also made all of us perform in the lumbar spine x-ray which is an indicator if
you have scoliosis or other spine problems.
Our day 9 consists of new learnings about blood types and cells. During
our class in medical technology, we learned about blood smearing and blood
typing which our clinical instructor taught us while giving us step by step
process and guiding us as we performed it by ourselves, it was scary at first
since we are dealing with blood and veins but then if you know how to execute
properly it the satisfaction that you'll have will be greater than your fear.
On our final day in Medical Technology, we performed venipuncture
where we collect blood samples from the veins. With proper guidance, we
learned how to execute it properly without messing things up.

April 11, 2023. It is the start of our Immersion at Riverside College.
When we first arrived at the venue, our supervisor Miss Jillian assisted us into
our holding area. On our first day, we were assigned to the Physical Therapy
department of Riverside College. We discussed the anatomy of the human body
and, we tried Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), and we also had a quiz
about what we discussed earlier that day. On our second day, April 13, we
were assigned to the nursing department, and we experienced how to assist in
the delivery room, how to properly take care of a newborn, how to get the
placenta inside the mother's womb, and how to get the vital signs such as

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

blood pressure. On our third day, we were assigned to the pharmacology
department, and we were grouped into 5 and tasked to make our own liniment
oil. After making the liniment oil we are assigned to do a short advertisement
for our product. The next activity we did was making soap. After making the
soap we must make our business plan, discuss where we want to establish
our business, make a brand name for our soap, and describe its uniqueness
to other soap products.

The following week it was April 17, 2023, and we were in the radiologic
department. We learned about the manual and modern way of doing X-rays
and printing them very well and our clinical instructor also introduced us to
several types of X-rays. On our fifth day, we are back in the physical therapy
department, and we learned about bandaging. We also had a brief discussion
about anatomy, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and integumentary systems. After
the discussion, we had a short quiz and group work, in which our group won.
On our 6th day, we are again in the radiologic department. We were introduced
to the types of equipment such as mammogram, MRI, fixed X-ray, and
ultrasound. We were also exposed to a lumbosacral spine X-ray.

Moving onto the 3rd week of our Immersion, April 24, 2023, we are
back at the nursing department. We learned about the proper way to insert a
catheter, and our clinical instructor taught us the proper way to do CPR. We
were again exposed to the delivery room and this time I was able to be the head
nurse. I practiced proper gloving such as close and open gloving. We also
learned how to wash your hands properly as well as how to scrub your hands
up to your elbows before you go into the delivery room. On our 8th day, it is
our first time and the psychology department. And we had an activity on how
we can identify our temperament. We also had a case study report and a game
of solving rebus puzzles. I won the game, and they gave me a gift check from
Starbucks. I haven't had time to go to Starbucks and use my gift check.

Our Immersion was moved to the next Month. It Continued on May 8,

2023. On that day, we were assigned to the medical technology department
and there we learned how to extract blood and conduct CBS test and blood
smears. We also experienced microscopy. I am able to look at the ovary,
kidney, and pinworm under a microscope. We also learned about blood typing
and even though I already know what my blood type is I still want to try and
test if I really have O+ blood. On our last day as immersion students, we were
still assigned to the medical technology department. And the last thing we
learned is how to do phlebotomy. I experienced drawing blood from my
classmate and at first, I was hesitant to insert the needle because I am afraid

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

of hurting my friend but then, our instructor guided me well and assisted me
during the activity. He was hands-on and is always closely monitoring us. He
is a fun instructor and honestly, I am convinced of enrolling in the medical
technology department because I find the activities quite interesting.

Activity 26. Work Immersion Highlights

The highlights throughout the

immersion at the riverside college make
me determined about the career path I
will follow. Many courses make me realize
their worth and benefits if I choose them
as a career. It made me realize that all
courses have different uniquenesses.

As I have explored further at

Riverside College and the different
courses that I
experience
every day, I have met different people,
including a nurse, a physical therapist,
a radiologist, a medical technologist,
and a psychologist, and I have learned
that they have a real passion for their
work. I also learned a lot, especially
since this immersion site is aligned
with the path
I will choose in the future.

I also considered medical

technology as one of the highlights since
I don't really like needles and blood, but
I muster the courage to perform the activity, especially the
phlebotomy. I enjoyed the activity as well as the blood smearing,
even though it was difficult. After numerous tries, I achieved the
perfect smear.

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

With the many activities that I experienced in the whole immersion, it
makes me want to highlight everything since the first and last days of the
immersion are interesting and I've gained more additional insights that I can
perform in case of emergency or share with people.

Activity 27. My Reflection
How did the experienced change as a person, and how will it help me in the
future.

Gikyla Faith A. Mellizo

From the start of immersion to the end, it makes so many changes for
me as a student; it improves my social ability and my critical thinking in group
activities, and it also makes me more determined to choose the \course I
wanted. Since I encountered many people at Riverside College, I learned how
to pursue your dream career, which I am passionate about, like I saw in our
clinical instructors.

A job is an important aspect of everyone's life, and as I choose this

immersion as a line in my profession, it helps me become more determined to
have this job. since it enlightened by giving the information why the jobs in
the medical field are worth it to apply.

In summary, it improves my soft and hard skills, and having to see the
passion of our clinical instructors in theirs also changed my views. The
experience that I gained helped me gain more knowledge about what career to
take and to be more determined to choose the course that I am passionate
about.

Floyd Andrei L. Gulmatico

I experienced various new things during the work immersion. I gained

a lot of knowledge in the field of medicine and even business. I now know that
even if a work looks simple, it is very complex if you have the proper knowledge
to understand what is being done in the process.

As expected, I am lacking in knowledge and experience in many areas,

however I used the work immersion to learn in those areas that I am lacking.
Almost everything was first for me during the immersion so I learned many
lessons. It was quite enjoyable for me as I love learning even though everything
was pretty difficult for me.

The experience I gained in the immersion will surely help me in my life.

I can apply the knowledge I learned in my everyday life. It not only helped me

RTNHS SHS Work Immersion Portfolio

learn various things, it also helped me grow as a person by teaching me that
simple looking things are so complex if you look at it thoroughly.

Kyla Marie Dequiña

My immersion at Riverside College made me realize and learn lots of

things especially with the career that i want to pursue in the future, it really
helped me on building myself and i gained lot's of experience and memories
while doing so.

The people there are very approachable and they made me feel that i
belonged on this field, the medical field. I met lot's of people on different fields
and i can say that every course on that institute is beautiful and mesmerising,
everytime i see them doing their own thing i felt sparks because i can see that
they are very passionate on their work. Every day i have different interactions
with professionals on different fields, I've met a physical therapist, nurse,
pharmacist, radiologist, medical technologist and a psychologist and i want to
be as impassioned and well driven as them in the future.

I enjoyed every activity since the first day to the last. I really love their
psychology class but sadly i didn't have any pictures because i was too busy
having fun while doing the activities and i forgot to take them, but overall every
course that they have is mesmerizing and every course has their own
uniqueness, i love psychology because it is aligned to what i wanted to pursue
and it helped me alot, now i am more encouraged to take my dream course
thanks to Riverside College.

Coline Sebonga

understanding of my own abilities, interests, and aspirations. This process has
empowered me to set meaningful goals, continuously strive for self-
improvement, and embrace a growth mindset. I have developed resilience in
the face of challenges, learned from failures, and celebrated successes along
the way. Overall, the work immersion experience has cultivated a sense of self-
awareness and equipped me with the tools to navigate future endeavors.

In conclusion, being a work immersion student has been a
