Rationale
This Work Immersion Portfolio will serve as a workbook for the students who will take up the
course/subject Work Immersion in Senior High School. The framework is based on DepEd Order No. 30 s.
2017, entitled Guidelines for Work Immersion.

This workbook will essentially foster in-depth learning of the world of work and assessment of
student’s performance during work immersion. In this time of pandemic, there will be no actual work
immersion but work simulation at home will be devised for the student to experience work.
Furthermore, the purpose of this portfolio includes but is not limited to the following:

For Student-Trainees:
 The portfolio will be used as a source of motivation and guide for work immersion/work simulation at
home.

 This will serve as a documentation and approval of lessons learned.

 This will provide feedback of their performance level.

 This will pave way in preparation for real job application.

School:
 This contains regulations and conditions regarding contract between school and student.

 This is an information about curriculum and record of lessons learned.

 This is a record of student-trainees performance for assessment.

Agency / Company:
 This contains introduction of company in general.

 This enumerates training rules and regulations for training inside the agency/company.

PRE- IMMERSION

Introduction

Before the work immersion, the Senior High School student will first understand the immersion process,
proper work ethics, workplace safety, confidentiality, and effective conflict resolution and teamwork skills, as
agreed in the DepEd Order No. 30 s. 2017. Also, there is a need to hone skills in writing a resume, filling of
application forms, and complying requirements.

Learner’s Activity
1. Attend the pre-immersion orientation. In this time of pandemic, the learner must view/join/attend the
virtual pre-immersion orientation through Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) streamed via a Facebook
Page, must comment “Full Name, watching from Brgy., Pre-immersion Oriented (Ex.: Juan dela Cruz,
watching from Kitacubong. Pre-immersion Oriented), screenshot the comment, and send the screenshot
in the messenger group chat. Those who cannot view/join/attend on time will write a letter of
explanation, replay the virtual pre-immersion orientation, and do the same process- comment,
screenshot, and send the screenshot in the messenger group chat.

2. As one to join the workforce in the future, you will need to do, prepare and secure the following:
 Curriculum Vitae/Resume;
 Essay on how to conduct oneself inside the company/agency establishment during the immersion
period;
 Application letter;
 Job Interview Skills Activity Sheet

12

Science Technology
Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM) PATTAO NATIONAL
You will also prepare and accomplish own portfolio and update it from time to time because at the end
of the work immersion/work immersion at home simulation, you will need to present/pass this portfolio. Make
sure to attach needed documents, answer reflection leaf and paste pictures.

ACTIVITY 1: “The Worker”

Work is on your way. Are you prepared to work? Do you have the potential, character, talents, and skills to take
up the challenge of being a worker? What should you possess to become a good worker? How will you prepare
for work immersion? (Rubric or Criteria how to give you score is in the rubric page at the last pages of this
work immersion portfolio template.)
Being a prepared worker is one of the characteristics you must have, a characteristic that you are
prepared for what happens in the future or how you handle a certain situation. As a worker, you have to
be active in every different situation. You have the skills that can easily adapt or learn how to handle a
critical situation. There are so many challenges that you may encounter in a workplace specially when
you are new in the workplace, this scenario occurs like in your first job, there is sometimes that some of
your coworkers didn’t trust your ideas but with the skills on how you deliberate your ideas, you can
gradually gain trust in your cowokers. You should possess these kinds of characteristics like having
patience, good communication, leadership, active listening, creativity, and many more. These
characteristics can make you a good worker. Preparing for work immersion is like you are ready to take
on challenges that may you encounter in a work immersion. A challenge that may enhance your
knowledge and skills.

Being an unprepared worker can affect your work and this will lead to anxiety. Due to
anxiety, you will feel uncomfortable with the team you belong to. To confront the anxiety, you must be
confident, communicate with others, or be sociable and this will also improve your teamwork skills.
Preparing is so very important. Being a prepared person can reduce your anxiety, fear, pressure, and
nervousness. My preparation for work immersion is being confident and believing in myself that I can
take on these challenges.

13

Science Technology
Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM) PATTAO NATIONAL
First, I must submit my complete documents like my resume and application letter. I must
have enough knowledge, adequate skills, and good moral character. I must also be aware of the
company’s dos and don’ts, policies, and guidelines of the company. I must be able to resolve the
possible needs and challengesI may encounter., And should practice myself to be open-minded to any
changes and new learnings in my whole immersion process

ACTIVITY 2

After the pre-immersion orientation, list the Do’s and Dont’s employed in the workplace you are
assigned. In this time of pandemic where there are no partner companies/agencies, list of Do’s and Dont’s is
attached.

DO’s DON’Ts
1. Keep your workstation clean and tidy. Don’t gossip.
2. Arrive early. Don’t use working hours for leisure.
3. Ask for clarification if you didn't know what to do. Don’t be late.
4.Build a good public relation among classmate Don’t use your position to discriminate your
classmate.
5. Work productively and effectively. Don’t hesitate to assist a classmate that need help.
6. Listen if somebody is speaking. Don’t be ingnorance.
7. Greet your teacher and classmate Don’t tolerate misbehavior in a workplace
8. Respect the ideas of your classmate Don’t speak while there is speaking
9. Finish the task that has been given to you on time. Don’t be closed minded
10. Assist your classmate or guide it if he/she needs Don’t cram
an assist.

Reflection

1. Do you agree to the list of Do’s and Don’ts above? Support your answer.

14

Science Technology
Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM) PATTAO NATIONAL
 Yes, as a worker you must know how to respect or follow the rules that have been set up. A
worker is supposed to be well competent and aware of the school's do's and don’ts because if a school does
not have clearly stated rules and punishment for ignorance, the workers have nothing to look forward to and
thus they may even be careless on their work resulting to a high level of loses.

2. Was there a rule that your think is not acceptable to you? Why?

 None, because these regulations or rules can be enhanced or improve our behavior and can be a
result of good work. And can also improve your teamwork skills and communication skills.

ACTIVITY 3:if “Conflict Resolution”

Suppose you experience disagreement and conflict with co-workers, how important to handle the situation?
How would you rate your skills in handling differences of opinion?

One of the work ethics required of a good worker is effective conflict resolution. Conflict and
disagreement usually occur during an argument about ideas that have been shared. Conflict commonly occurs
between leaders and members, you and coworkers, and many more. Conflict resolution requires leadership
skills, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making.

Conflict is defined as a serious disagreement or argument, usually, one that lasts a long time. This is
typical because no two people have the same expectations and objectives. To avoid In this situation, the group
must have teamwork, especially on working immersion.

In my work immersion, I remembered I had a conflict with my leader. He was assigned to become a
leader in the production of our project due to my little confidence I declined because of anxiety I overthink that
this task will be failed because I don’t have the leadership to lead the group. But he insists on me that I will be
the leader in this task because he believes in me that I finish the task at a right time. But in the end, I accept it
for my growth and to overcome my fear of failing.

15

Science Technology
Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM) PATTAO NATIONAL
From this situation, I realized that as a member of the group I should trust my leader because he trusted
me so much. And in addition leadership and teamwork are the most important skills in work immersion because
without them the group will lose the action to move as a group.

Activity 6: “Job Interview”

A Job Interview is an interview consisting of a conversation between a job applicant and a representative
of an employer which is conducted to assess whether the applicant should be hired. How you answer questions
during Job Interview can have a big impact on you being hired or accepted as a work immerse. Jot down
questions that you have come across during your first dialogue with the partner-industry/company/agency work
supervisor or head of office you will be assigned.

In this time of pandemic where there are no partner companies/agencies, your Work Immersion teacher
will organize/conduct a mock job interview via online platforms through google meet or zoom. The
details/link/code of this online platform will be forwarded at least a day before your scheduled interview. Jot
down questions that you have come across during the interview.
 A job applicant must surpass this stage. He must be able to answer the questions appropriately and
accordingly. He must possess strong personal and professional skills. He also must have a persuasive
18
ability in communication to convince the job interviewer that he deserves the position. He must leave a
positive impression to catch the job interviewer’s heart. He must be both mentally and physically
prepared and be able to meet the expectation of her work immersion teacher. Our first day of
immersion served as the day of our mock job interview. We were interviewed by the work immersion
teacher. I was asked with questions like tell me about yourself, if you compare yourself to things what
is it and what are your strength and weaknesses?

MOCK JOB INTERVIEW

12
Here are some questions that you may encounter during an interview. Try answering them. NOTE: This is not a
requirement. This is just a guide. 16

Interpersonal Skills
1. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?
2. What do you do when you know you are right and your boss disagrees with you? Give me an example.
3. If your colleagues had an opportunity to tell us your primary strength what would that be? And, your
primary weakness- what would that be?
4. As a component of this position, you may have to work on a team on certain projects. Describe when
you’ve worked on a team before and what, in your opinion, constitutes an effective team?
5. What do you do when others resist of reject your ideas or actions?

Behavioral
1. Suppose you are in a situation where deadlines and priorities change frequently and rapidly, how would
you handle it?
2. How do you know when you are stressed? What do you do to destress?
3. Tell me about a time when you were a part of a great team. What was your part in making the team
effective?
4. Suppose your supervisor asked you to get information for them that you know is confidential and he/she
should have not access to. What would you do?
5. Describe a time when you performed a task outside your perceived responsibilities. What was the task?
Why did you perceive it to be outside your responsibilities? What was the outcome?

Creative Thinking
1. What’s the best book you’ve read in the last year? Please take a minute and tell us what you liked about
it.
2. What was the most creative thing you did in your last job?
3. What is your interpretation of “success?”

ACTIVITY 7: “Mock Job Interview”

1. During the conduct of the mock job interview, do you think you did well?

 Sad to say the previous time I was interviewed by our Homeroom teacher, I believe I wasn't
able to give it my all. I wasn't able to adequately answer all of the questions. For the interview, I was neither
emotionally or physically prepared. I had terrible communication skills and could not communicate well in
English. I was terrified of making mistakes and lacked confidence in myself. Despite the fact that I did not
succeed in the interview, I am aware that I could have performed better.
2. What are the areas that you think you are good at and areas that needed to be improved?

 I think am good at understanding the question and interpreting it correctly. I also think I am good
at constructing and organizing my idea in my mind. My problem is that when I have to say those words
using the English language as an answer. I can't say the idea exactly and coherently. And that's something
that needs to practice and improve. I have poor communication skills. I always get mentally blocked and
could not be able to speak my mind out. The idea that I said is way more different and unorganized than the
idea I wanted it would be.
3. Are you more confident now to answer during a job interview? Why?

 Now that I've had the experience of being interviewed for a job, I believe I'm more confident.
I've learned everything I needed to know. I need to improve my communication and critical thinking skills
so that I can come up with the best answers to the questions. I've also gained a lot more self-assurance and
overcome my anxiety of making a mistake. I've resolved to give it my all in everything and to believe in
what I'm capable of.
