SUMMARY

Basud National High School has 2 campuses. The main campus is situated at
Esperanza St., Poblacion1, Basud Camarines while the annex campus is at Barangay Sipi,
Poblacion 2, Basud, Camarines Norte. The whole school has a total enrollee of 3,350 with 139
teaching and non-teaching staff.

Both campuses are exposed to flood as they are near Basud river. Likewise, the school
is exposed to typhoons and heavy rainfalls. However, there are rooms which can be used as
evacuation centers in times of calamities.

As part of making and preparing the school for disaster risk reduction and management,
it envisions to build a safer, adaptive and disaster resilient school community towards
sustainable development. In like manner, its mission is to equip the staff, teachers and students
with necessary skills and capabilities to cope with the impacts of disasters like: mainstream and
integrate DRRM in the school level, strengthen the active involvement of school stakeholders
with proper coordination regarding mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery operations,
increase resiliency of school physical facilities, produce DRRM sensitive environmental
management and develop SDRRMC/SBK students through leadership and trainings.

In attainment of necessary skills the following were observed: avoiding hazards and
mitigating potential impacts by reducing vulnerabilities and exposure of the school and
enhancing capacities of communication, establishing and strengthening capacities of the
communities to anticipate, cope and recover from the negative impact of emergency
occurrences and disaster, providing life preservation and meet the basic subsistence needs of
affected population based on acceptable standards during or immediately after a disaster,
restoring and improving facilities, livelihood and living conditions and organizational capacities
of affected communities and reduced disaster risks in accordance with the “building back better”
principle.
