Lesson Idea Name: The Water Cycle


Grade Level/Content Area: 4th grade science
Content Standard Addressed: S4E3. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to
demonstrate the water cycle.

 Plan and carry out investigations to observe the flow of energy in water as it
changes states from solid (ice) to liquid (water) to gas (water vapor) and
changes from gas to liquid to solid.
 Develop models to illustrate multiple pathways water may take during the water
cycle (evaporation, condensation, and precipitation).

Lesson idea implementation: I will introduce the lesson by asking the students an educational
question to test the student’s prior knowledge. I will make sure the students are aware of their
goal by making sure they understand the water cycle. I will have the students watch an brain
pop video about the water cycle to make sure they are prepared for their next activity. The
students will use their available resources to complete the worksheet. The students will
communicate and collaborate with each other to complete the worksheet. I will walk around to
make sure all the questions are answered and to make sure students are using their technology
correctly. As I wrap up the lesson, I will have the students to play a kahoot to see what they
learned and to gather feedback.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
In my lesson, I implemented a kahoot and a brain pop video the keep the students engage. The
students love videos and games to keep them on their toes during a lesson. As the students are
using their technology to complete their lesson, I will make sure the students are using their
technology correctly.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):


The technology tool that I chose was padlet. Padlet let students add ideas and comments for a
brainstorming session. This can span a week or a single lesson and helps encourage
creativity. Padlet is great for teachers and students because the can collab together during the
lesson.

Reflecting on enhanced learning: the activity I created will implement student learning by
keeping them engage to understand the water cycle. The students will gain the knowledge
through the worksheets and collaborating with their peers.
