IV. THE BARANGAY PROFILE

A. HISTORY

San Nicolas formerly a district under Misamis Lumber Company during the year of the
operation. With the presence of the company populace in the strict are mostly
employees of the said company and formally named the district after Don Nicolas
Capistrano the owner of Misamis Lumber Company.

Residence of San Nicolas District are mostly not originally from Sirawai and are
following the Roman Catholic religion thus, the populace also celebrates festa every
third day of May to commemorate and pay respect to Sta. Cruz as their Parochial
Patron.

June 15, 1968, the virtue of the Republic Act no. 5234 signed by then President
Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sirawai officially gained its corporate status as municipality of
Zamboanga del Norte province and officially, San Nicolas district became a barangay
together with other 33 barangays in the municipality. However, its creation took effect
after the 1972 local election. Thus, on January 1, 1972, the first set f elected local
officials assumed t office.

B. DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION OF THE BARANGAY

San Nicolas, formerly Poblacion, is a barangay in the municipality of Sirawai, in the


province of Zamboanga del Norte. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was
1,408. This represented 4.52% of the total population of Sirawai.

The household population of San Nicolas in the 2015 Census was 1,351 broken down
into 321 households or an average of 4.21 members per household
According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest population in San
Nicolas is 20 to 24, with 171 individuals. Conversely, the age group with the lowest
population is 75 to 79, with 5 individuals.
The population of San Nicolas grew from
1,201 in 1990 to 1,408 in 2020, an increase of 207 people over the course of 30 years.
The latest census figures in 2020 denote a positive growth rate of 0.87%, or an increase of
57 people, from the previous population of 1,351 in 2015.
San Nicolas is situated at approximately 7.5889, 122.1390, in the island of Mindanao. Elevation
at these coordinates is estimated at 4.4 meters or 14.4 feet above mean sea level.

A. GOAL

Advocating households for the good practices and healthy practice. Having a backyard
garden to have sustainable food in the table. And become a Nutrition sensitive family.

B. OBJECTIVES
a. GENERAL/OUTCOME OBJECTIVE
Production of self – sustaining garden in the Barangay to address and prevent
Malnutrition in any form.

b. OUTPUT OBJECTIVE
Decreasing prevalence of Malnutrition in any form. Sustainance of food in every
family by having their own garden.

c. INPUT OBJECTIVE or ACTIVITY OBJECTIVE


Promoting, Advocating agricultural projects and promote gardening specially with
the families having malnourished child.
