LEARNING PLAN
EXPLORE

Have you ever wondered how many organisms are living on Earth? Or how
scientists can identify each of these organisms? This dilemma is answered by
Taxonomy-the science of naming and classification of organisms.
In this unit, you will find out the relationship between Taxonomy and Biodiversity.
NAME OF SUBJECT Page 1 of 14
You will explore on the importance of classifying organisms in promoting
biodiversity in your locality. You will also look at the different role’s organisms are
playing in maintaining balance in the ecosystem where they are dwelling. Remember
to search for the answer to this question as you go through this unit: Why is
classification of species important in the study of biodiversity and conservation?

Go over mentimeter.com and be part of the world cloud by answering “What is

Biodiversity?”

Activity 1: Video watching

Direction: Watch the video and answer the following questions below.

Click the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEPaENkjQcw - The Journey of

the Leatherback

Process Questions:

1. Why is a single species of leatherback turtle considering a miracle?

2. In the video it says that “Sea turtles spend most of their lives in the water.
And now they are fast disappearing. Are we beginning to unravel their
mysteries?” Based on this statement from the video, why is classification of
species important in the study of biodiversity and conservation?

ACTIVITY 2: ELICITING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE THROUGH I-R-F-CHART

In the previous activity, you are asked to think of the words through mentimeter.com
on what biodiversity is and how classification of species plays their role in
conserving biodiversity. What are your initial answers to this question?

Summarize your answers to this question. Summarize your thoughts and ideas in the
first column (Initial) of the I-R-F Chart.

In this unit, students will discover how matter and energy interact. They will gain a
better understanding of the roles of organism in the process of continuous exchange
of energy in the biosphere. While doing the activities, keep in mind this focus
questions, how do human activities affect the survival of ecosystems?

Activity 1: Saving Sharks from Human Attacks!

you know that sharks are important managers of the ecological balance in oceans?
To better understand this, let’s start by watching a video about these vulnerable
species.
