THE PROBLEM

A. INTRODUCTION

The purpose of a ACLC student Organization is to bring everyone together based on

their interests and build relations. Student council truly gives you the opportunity to

foster skills like leadership, communication, teamwork, organization and public speaking.

The opportunities of being a member of student council organization it makes you a

responsible person. Undeniably, being part of after-school activities entails a lot of time,

hard work, and perseverance. It teaches students to be responsible when it comes to

managing time as well as tasks. With this, it transforms students into a reliable and well-

rounded person.

Studies show that joining a student organization on campus has beneficial effects

on persons mental health too. It is indeed difficult to deal both with extracurricular

projects and studies at the same time. However, this multilayered routine is serious

training for student adult life. Students will come to understand better the importance of

lectures. So, you can become more committed to collegiate education and perform better

within the student organization at the same time.

Being a member of a student organization is an opportunity to develop oneself while

serving the greater good. It is safe to say that there are gaps and opportunities that arise as

1
a result of joining a student organization. This paper will discuss the various gaps and

opportunities of being a member of a student organization.

One of the opportunities available to students who join an organization is that they

get an opportunity to acquire leadership and communication skills. Team building, public

speaking, and effective communication are all essential abilities that one can acquire by

participating in student organizations. These abilities are incredibly beneficial not only in

school, but also in the workforce.

Secondly, there is an opportunity to interact with a diverse group of people that you

may not meet in everyday life. Being a part of an organization provides opportunities to

meet people with different personalities, backgrounds, interests, and perspectives. This

interaction is noteworthy because it exposes students to new ideas, and they learn to

appreciate and accept the differences of others. Also, those from different backgrounds

may learn from experiences that others have had, and adapt them in their own journey.

Thirdly, one can get the chance to network with individuals and organizations that

align with their interests, career goals, or ideals. Being a member of a student

organisation provides one with a chance to create programs, fundraising ideas, projects or

events that can put entrepreneurial skills into practice. Simultaneously, being a member

of a student organization will equip you with skills needed to develop and thrive in a

democratic society. The skills learned within these organizations will enhance an

individual in voting, activism and decision-making skills. There are opportunities to

engage in the democratic process, plan and participate in campaigns that align with the

values, beliefs and principles of the organization, or develop leadership capacities that

prepare them for future leadership positions, diverse people or within the community.

2
Although there are opportunities from joining an organization, there are also gaps

that one needs to be aware of. For instance, joining a student organization can limit the

time that one would have had to engage in other activities outside the organization. Time

is a resource that one can never get back, which means that larger commitments may

affect one's academic or personal growth progress. Secondly, there is a significant

financial implication that comes with joining a student organization. Dues and charges

are at times needed to keep the organization running. These fees can be hefty, especially

when added to other expenses, like miscellaneous activities or personal spending. Being a

member of a student organization requires time and money. In some instances, the

amount spent on joining the organization can negatively impact one's budget or financial

plan.

Distraction is yet another gap that comes with joining a student organization.

Individuals joining the group must maintain a balance to ensure that academic obligations

are met while still attending to the demands of the organization. Poor time management

can lead to an influx in commitments and negatively affect academic performance, social

life or family interactions.

Lastly, joining a student organization can lead to limited access to other resources or

activities that do not align with the values, principles, or activities of the organization.

For example, religious organizations may limit or restrict membership in another club

that runs beyond their doctrine. Participation in student organizations can influence the

sense of identity or views of individuals, resulting in a divide between societies that may

hinder collaboration or peaceful coexistence.

3
In conclusion, being a member of a student organization is a two-pronged

opportunity. It provides individuals with experiences, skills and networks that will equip

them in their broader personal, academic or professional life. On the other hand, these

opportunities may be accompanied by gaps that individuals must be wary of.

Nonetheless, being a part of an organization is a decision that one must make based on

the trade-offs they are willing to take at that time.

Student organizations are a vital aspect of college life, allowing students to connect

with like-minded individuals, develop leadership skills, and effect change on campus and

in their community. Joining a student organization can provide a wealth of opportunities

for personal growth, professional development, and community engagement. However,

the effectiveness of these organizations can be hindered by various gaps that must be

addressed to make the most out of being a member of a student organization.

One significant gap that affects student organizations is the lack of diversity among

members. In many organizations, members tend to come from similar backgrounds and

share the same interests, which can lead to a narrow focus and limited perspectives.

Students from diverse backgrounds and with different interests may feel excluded or

uninvolved, which can weaken the organization's efficacy. Another critical gap is the

limited funding provided for student organizations. Many groups struggle to secure

sufficient financial resources, hindering their ability to achieve their goals or provide

essential resources for their members.

This gap can lead to weak leadership and difficulties in organizing events and

campaigns. Additionally, insufficient participation can be a significant gap in student

organizations. For these groups to be successful, members must be engaged and willing

4
to drive organizational goals. When members are inactive, the organization's leadership

may struggle to make progress on important initiatives, leading to a lack of purpose and

opportunity for growth.

Being part of student organization isn’t something anyone can do or participate.

In addition, students have to be excellent in managing both of education and student

council work. Otherwise, one cannot became a member of the student council

Organization.

students to connect with like-minded individuals, develop leadership skills, and effect

change on campus and in their community. The effectiveness of these organizations can

be hindered by various gaps that must be addressed to make the most out of being a

member of a student organization.

Despite these gaps, being a member of a student organization can offer various

opportunities to enhance personal and professional growth. Students develop essential

skills that are in demand in today’s job market. In summary, being a member of a student

organization opens up various opportunities for personal and professional growth, career

development, community engagement, networking, and resource access. However, gaps

exist. Addressing these gaps is crucial to ensure that the organization is effective in

achieving its goals, and members can capitalize on opportunities for growth and success.

Being part of a student organization can provide valuable opportunities for

personal and professional development. For instance, you can develop leadership,

communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Some students may face

5
challenges in balancing the demands of their academic coursework with their

participation in the organization. Additionally, some organizations may have a lack of

diversity or exclude students who do not fit their criteria, which can result in gaps in

representation and inclusivity.

Some students in student organization cannot focused on their study because of

how busy they are, just like preparing for upcoming events or doing paper works.

Therefore, they likely to fail their studies, before they became a member of the student

organization they we’re a student. What student came to school is to learn and to study in

the first place while keeping in mind, to graduate. Overall, joining a students with various

opportunities to enhance their personal development, network, engage in their

communities, and share their experiences. However, the organization could face gaps like
