(a) In an amusement fair, a competitor is entitled for a prize if he throws a ring on a peg from a

cefiain distance and this throw is called a success throw. It is observed that only 30o/o of the
competitors are able to do a success throw. Suppose that the decision rule is; if a person is

(b) A restaurant kitchen has two food mixing machines A andB. The average number of times,4
brakes down per week is 0.4 and the average number of times B brakes down per week is 0.1.

Find the probability that total number of breakdowns per four weeks time of mixing machines
A and B exceeds 4. You may assume that breakdowns are immediately repaired and put back
to work. (25 Marks)
