Uniqueness means being special in your own way or how different you are from others. (In
different aspects)
God created each one of us differently. The world has more than 6000 million people. But each
one of us is unique .this means that each person is quite different in appearance and character.
Psalm 139:13 – 16 reveals to us the uniqueness that God has given us or the need to appreciate it.
He made us together in our mother’s womb
We are fearfully and wonderfully made
There are 2 major classes of uniqueness
1. Physical uniqueness
2. Social uniqueness
Physical uniqueness
This refers to how special our bodies are in reference to others
It may also refer to the difference in the individual body make up.
Examples of body or physical differences / uniqueness
- Difference in body size - (big fat and small)
- Difference in skin colour – (light skinned / dark / chocolate)
- Difference in height (tall or short)

- Difference in body parts / sex – female and male
- Difference in adolescent stage ( growth and age)
How to understand and appreciate my uniqueness more.
Adolescence
This is the period between childhood and adulthood.
An adolescent is a person between 12 and 20 years of age.
- Adolescents always grow fast in height and size and they experience many more body
changes
- They also experience many social, emotional and intellectual changes
Examples of body changes in adolescent
a) Physical changes
- Both girls and boys develop pubic hair.
- Girls begin to menstruate
- Girls breasts begin to enlarge
- Boys develop deep voices
- Boys become muscular.
b) Social changes
- Develop desires to relate with the different sex (boys and girls)
- Join peer groups / Develop interests to hang out with peers
c) Emotional changes
- They become moody and uncontrollable
- They become short tempered easily
- They hate counsel from elders
d) Intellectual changes
- They increase in their reasoning
- They acquire a desire to discover more (adventurous)

These are the unique abilities that people have and they are also looked as strength

Weakness
A weakness is a strong liking for something which might have unpleasant effects

Weakness once practiced may lead to bad results.

As Christians we should pray to God to help us overcome our natural weaknesses.
The source of these weaknesses from the sin our grandparents Adam and Eve

CONTENT: RELATING WITH OTHERS WITH CONSIDERATION AND RESPECT.

FAMILY LEVEL.
There is a saying that “No man is an island” this means no human being can live independently
on earth without relating with other people.
Whether one is rich or poor, sick or healthy, young or old he/ she needs to relate with other
people.

There are many different people / groups of people we have relationships with or we need to
relate with.
These include:-
1. Parents / guardians
2. Teachers

3. Fellow children / friends at school.
4. Workmates
5. Relatives
6. The needy people.

Relating with parents or guardians


These are the first people we normally relate with in life.
- A guardian – is a person responsible to take care of a child in the absence of the parents
e.g. after the parents are dead or living far a way from the child.
Things that God wants us to do for our parents / guardians.
- To respect them
- To serve them especially in their old age.
- Obeying them.
The word of God commands us to obey and honour our parents’ Eph 6:13(read this passage).
- Loving them
Things that God wants our parents to do for us.
1. To love us

3. To guide us as we grow up.

 Our families are made up of brothers, sisters, grandparents, uncles, aunties, cousins. All these
are people to whom we are related by blood and we call them relatives
 We should relate with our relatives through avoiding bad practices.

Good ways through which we should relate with our relatives

Normally all children relate with other children.
These ways include:

4. Openness
5. Sharing facilities, meals play materials

Needy people are those people who require our special attention.
Examples of needy people.
- The elderly
- The disabled people e.g. the lame, the blind, dumb and deaf.
- The sick
- The young children
- The pregnant women.

In the society we live in, we are all different in one way/ another

Respect – valuing/admiring someone for their good qualities / achievements in society.


Respect means a polite feeling of admiration for somebody due to their good qualities or
achievements or having a polite feeling towards somebody due to her qualities or achievements.
We can show respect and consideration to others by:

 We need to take Jesus’ example he respected and appreciated all people without
discrimination-poor, prostitutes, sinners, lame, small children. We should have a positive
attitude towards people.

Having a positive attitude towards other people “reading and comprehending the story of
Byaruhanga and the shop keeper”

- A positive attitude is having a good feeling about something.
- A youth is a person who is between 18 and 30 years (according to the Uganda law)
- Work is any useful or productive activity that requires / involves use of energy.
Through work we are able to support our lives and make contributions to society
- Society requires different services from each one of us

Examples of work that we do.


Work can be categorized in the following forms
- Professional skilled work
- Having enough ability knowledge to do something.
- Unskilled work
- Voluntary work

- To make their societies better places to live in.
- To help the needy
- God expects us to work and to help the poor
Some youth’s attitude towards work.

The youth should always take opportunity to work not only doing office jobs but also manual
jobs e.g. farming, carpentry, building, brick making, e.t.c.
In order to work responsibly or develop a good attitude towards work we need to.

Points to remember when developing a good attitude towards work. Living responsibly
- We need to respect all kinds of work
- We need to work hard, honestly and responsibly
- We need to treat our fellow employees well
- We need to respect our employers
- We need to acknowledge that whatever we do is God’s plan for us
We glorify God through work it pleases God when we work

Youth in Uganda today despise some types of work, others hate work.
- Many youth hate work
- They also despise some types of work e.g brick making even domestic work
- Youth should not only expect to do office work but also manual work.
God also expects us to work.
In the bible Paul encouraged us to work.
He says – in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 “whoever does not work must not eat”
- All people have to work rich poor your old educated and un educated
- God was the first worker we note in the bible he created the world in 6 days.
- Jesus after going up also worked, preached God’s words, healed the sick and disabled.

- Work is for our own good, our families and the communities we live in.
The value of work
This means the worth/ importance of work. We work to:-
- To get money
- It enables us to serve others
- It enables us to take care of God’s creation
- Its for learning purposes
- It brings self fulfillment
- We work for enjoyment / kills boredom
- Work earns us respect in the society
- Work reduces our dependence on other people

Suffering: This is to experience something bad / painful


- To suffer is to experience or to be subjected to something bad or unpleasant.
- Suffering is part and parcel of our lives – all human beings have suffered at one point in
their lives young, old, rich or poor.
- Suffering began when Adam and eve sinned against God. When God created the world
everything was pleasant and good.
- Suffering makes people to do evil things

The above causes of suffering may make our bodies to:

- Bleed - Stunted
- Get deformed
The above kinds of suffering can be cured by medicine after diagnosing

Effects of emotional suffering

- Spiritual suffering is a form which affects one’s soul
It is caused by disobedience to God
- When a person disobeys God he/she becomes a sinner
- Sin spoils God’s relationship with man
- Adam and eve went through suffering because they disobeyed God

- This is brought about by mental illness.

This is suffering that is brought about by one’s relationship with others

This is suffering brought due to lack of financial resources.
Results of economic suffering
- Failure to buy food

- Failure to provide medical care
- Failure to buy clothes to children
- Failure to construct a permanent house
- Lack of money leads to poverty
- It needs to physical, social and emotional suffering
- Poverty makes one fail to meet even the basic needs i.e

How individual suffering affects other people.


- People who suffer physically affect others because of the continuous need to attend to
them e.g the lame.
- Economically suffering people over depend on others
- Socially suffering people will always look for alternative ways to get attention or to be
accepted in society e.g. orphans will go to the streets, and they may also resort to stealing
people.
- People suffering emotionally are normally difficult to deal with; they are always moody
not friendly and fight others.
- A spiritually suffering person affect through their sin, thief will steal people’s property, a
murder will kill others.
General causes of suffering.
- Wars
- Diseases / sickness
- Death of loved ones
- Natural disasters e.g. drought, famine ,floods
- Poor child upbringing
- Poverty
- Disobedience

CONTENT: ECONOMIC SUFFERING
In our life we depend on one another for a living simply because we do different work and have
different talents. Any failure by one individual to do his work or even does it poorly such
irresponsibility of one person can cause a lot of people in the community to suffer.
The following stories teach us how personal irresponsibility can lead to the suffering of others
1. The story about Opio the careless boy
2. The story about the irresponsible failing accountant.
Lessons learnt from the stories.
- Personal irresponsibility can cause suffering to our self

- We need to think before we act.

HIV / AIDS
Stands for Human Immuno – Deficiency Virus the virus that cases a disease called AIDs
- HIV kills the while blood cells, the cells that protect the body against infections caused
by viruses or bacteria.

- These infections lead to lack of Immunity. These blood cells form a bigger part of the
immune system of the body when they are killed, the body becomes immune deficient.
It becomes unprotected or defenceless against all sorts of diseases.
- As the body becomes defenceless many deseases attack it. The many signs and
symptoms of such diseases are what for on a syndrome.

Other forms of suffering


HIV/AIDS as a form and cause of suffering
- Aids has no cure so when people contact it it’s a permanent effect on their health.
- Aids affect the young, through mother to child transmission, the youth through careless
leaving and the old through unfaithfulness.
Causes
- It’s transmitted through having unprotected sex with an infected person.
- Use of unsterilized harp instruments that has been used by an infected person.

Effects of Hiv/ Aids


- It leads to loss of parents and loved ones.
- Creates orphaned children who may live without support.
- It causes poverty in families.
How to avoid it.
- By not having unprotected sex through use of condoms.
- Abstaining from sex, avoiding early sexual practices.
- Avoiding use of any sharp instruments.
- By being faithful to you partner.

Election malpractices as a form and cause of suffering.
An election is democratic way of choosing a leader
People continue their r riles and choose leaders of their listening.
Democratic leadership when people in a country have the light to choose their own leads.
- In most cases elections are meant to be free and fair, but this is never the case.
- People engage in malpractices through ridging votes for their favorite candidates not
considering abilities and prospects that person may have for the position.
- These elections follow and particular guideline
- If the roles are not followed malpractice happens.
Effects of election malpractices
Malpractices may lead to:-
- A malpractice is that action that breaks the law or roles governing on election in order to
gain an advantage for oneself.
- They happen when one wants to check elections.
- When rigging uses takes place those who feel were checked refuse to accept the
outcomes and a war may break out causes / different effects.
- Election of incompetent leaders causing suffering to the people.
- Brings corrupt leaders into leadership and these selfishly use the country’s resources
causing underdevelopment hence making the nation to suffer.
- Capable leaders are not given chance to lead.
- War may break at
- People are displaced from their homes
- Property and life may be lost

Other forms of suffering


Teenage pregnancies as a form and cause of suffering.
This refers to the early pregnancies acquired by girls at premature ages below 20years.
 It’s a form of suffering since those are still children and here bones are not ready to carry
babies hence causing:-
 Early death
 Diseases
 Early motherhood among other things

 School drop ours
 Pregnancy is largely a result of a holy marriage . When teenage girls engage in pre-
marital sex they can end up pregnant.

How to avoid it
 Through abstaining from early sex.
 Using condoms if one cannot avoid it.
 Staying in school.
 Listening to advice from parents and elders.

CONTENT: HOW JESUS SHARED IN THE SUFFERING OF OTHERS
- Human suffering started the day Adam and eve ate the forbidden fruit.
- When God realized this he gave them so many punishments
- He chased them out of the garden of Eden
- Adam had to work hard for food
- Eve had to deliver in pain
- Enemity between man and some creatures e.g. snakes
GOD’D SALVATION PLAN FOR MANKIND
- But out of God’s great mercy and love for mankind ,he sent his only son Jesus Christ to
save us
- Jesus had to be born in human flesh so that people would accept and believe in him. Jesus
came to earth to save us from our sins.
BIBLICAL FACTS THAT SHOWS THAT JESUS WAS HUMAN
- He was born (Mat 1:18-24)
- He was tempted (Mt 4:1-11)
- He got tired and needed to rest (john 4:6)

WAYS IN WHICH JESUS SHARED IN THE SUFFERING OF OTHERS
Since Jesus was human he shared in the suffering of others too:
Jesus died that our sins may be forgiven
He took our place and paid for all our wrong doing that he may have life.
1. When he sympathized with some people e.g the woman who was going to be stoned to death
after committing adultery (john 8:1 – 11)
- The woman had been put to public shame and was yet to be killed but Jesus saved her life
2. Jesus wept on losing his friend called Lazarus (john 11:35)
3. He visited and ate food with sinners who had been looked at as outcast by society (Luk 19:6 -
10) e.g. Zaccheus.
4. When he responded positively to the sinner who had been crucified with him i.e. “today I
promise you, you will be with me in paradise” (Luk 23:41 – 43) when we suffer we lose
hope. Jesus too was sorrowful, worried and afraid but Jesus shared in our suffering to show
us that suffering do not mean end of one ‘s hope

A redeemer is a person who saves someone from the power of evil
To redeem is to save some one from the power of evil
Christ as a way of restoring broken relationship
- Adam and eve committed the original sin by disobeying God.
- Adam and eve and their off springs lost fellowship with God
- As descendants of Adam and eve we have also lost God’s love and have therefore been
born in sin
- All people should therefore seek to restore their relationship with God, but man cannot do
this alone, they cannot restore the lost relationship
- God sent his son Jesus Christ to restore the broken relationship through to death on the
cross.
- Jesus’ death paid the price for our sins and through repentance to him we can reach God
again.
GOD CALLS HIS MESSENGERS
A messenger is a person who delivers messages
A messenger from God is a person who delivers God’s message to the people.

God called different messengers to take his messages to both the faithful and unfaithful people
Some messages who received God’s message included
Abraham
Joshua
John the Baptist
Moses
Prophets like Hosea, Jeremiah and Isaiah
Most of the above messengers were sent to make a way for the savior
Prophets; a prophet is a person sent by God to teach and give God’s message to the people.
A prophet can also be a person who predicts (foretells) the future and it comes true.

Introduction
In the Old Testament we see God’s faithfulness to people but they continued being unfaithful to
him
God called different people with a desire to use their words to restore his lost relationship with
mankind. He called them as a sign of his love for mankind.
People who received God’s call to make a way for the savior
God calls Abraham (Gen 12:1 -9)
- He was called at a time when the world was full of pagans and sinners
- God chose Abraham to be the father of the nation
- Which would prepare the world for the coming of the savior (redeemer)

The call of Moses exodus 3:1 – 20
God continued renewing his promises to Abraham through calling many other messengers and
sending them to his people, these included Moses
God calls Moses Exodus :3
- After God had heard the cry of his people Israel who had been carried into bondage in Egypt.
- He sent Moses to deliver his people from oppression and to lead them to Canaan the
Promised Land.
- Moses was on Mt. Sinai also known as Mt Horeb when he was called by God, looking after
the flock of his father in law Jethro. It was lending sheep and he saw a burning bush that was
not consumed.
- Moses was told to tell God’s people that God had seen their suffering and heard their cry and
had decided to rescue them
- He reminded that he was the God of their father’s Abraham Isaac and Jacob
- Moses was hesitant but God gave him Aaron his brother to speak on his behalf. Moses
accepted and did God’s work.

- Gideon was a brave and mighty young man whom God called at a time when the
Israelites where being defeated by the tribe of the medianites
- He was a son of Joash and one day when he was threshing wheat, an angel of the lord
came and sat under a nearby tree.

- Gideon complained before the angel of God why he failed to rescue them yet they heard
about him as a mighty God.
- The angel assured Gideon of God’s presence and how he was determined to help them.
- By God’s help Gideon defeated the medianites.
The call of John the Baptist (Mat 3:1 – 12)
- He was the last messenger to prepare a way for the coming of Jesus the messiah / savior
- He was a son of Zachariah and Elizabeth
- He preached to people to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins
- The coming of John the Baptist had been foretold by Isaiah the prophet (Isa 40:1-5)
- He lived a simple life in the desert
- He wore clothes made of camel’s chair ,his food was locusts and honey
- His message was “turn away from your sins because the kingdom of God is near”/ repent
and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins.
- All the people who repented were baptized by John the Baptist in R. Jordan

The message that Mary received


 The angel from heaven called Gabriel was sent by God to Mary in the city of Galilee named
Nazareth.
 She was a virgin engaged to get married to her husband Joseph the descendant of David.
 The angle gave her or message “rejoice lightly favoured one, the lord is with you, blessed of
the message but the angel encouraged her to be afraid because she was favoured by God.
 She wondered how this would happen and the Angel assured her that the Holy Spirit would
come upon her and she would conceive a son whom she will name Jesus.
