SECTION 1. GENERAL

1-1. GENERAL

(1) This Specifications, together with the attached drawings, provides all the criteria for the
design and construction of the crane to be used for handling of containers.

The crane registered in the trade name of PORTAINER® CRANE is a rail-mounted, electric
powered, semi-rope trolley, travelling tower, hinged boom, gantry type container handling
crane.

(2) If there is the item with ”(OPTION)” in SECTION 7, the item is not included in tender price.
It shall be quoted separately.

(3) The crane shall be designed for easy maintenance and easy replacement.

Patent Note

Certain assemblies and components of the equipment described in this Specifications are either
covered by valid Japan, U.S. and other foreign patents or are the subject of patent applications
presently pending in Japan, U.S. and in certain countries.

1-2. FEATURES

(1) One man control

All motions required for container handling shall be operated from operator’s cab located
under the trolley, and it provides rapid, safe, efficient handling of containers by a single
operator.

(2) Full visibility

The operator’s cab, which is located under the trolley, travels with the trolley and provides
the operator with full visibility at all times.

(3) Control

The variable voltage control system of Inverter is applied to the main hoist, trolley traverse,
boom hoist and gantry travel. Systems are digitally controlled using PLC for smooth
operation as well as easy adjustment and maintenance with their diagnostic functions.

(4) Structure

Gantry structure shall be of welded rigid frame, box type construction and field joints shall be
made by high-strength bolts or field-welding.

(5) Safety device

As for the safety device, the automatically stop limit switches shall be provided, which work
at both hoist and lower ends, both trolley traverse ends, and boom rise and lower ends.
In addition, emergency stop push buttons shall be provided on the crane to shut control
power and power of the electrical motors in case of emergency.

(6) Spreader tilting device

Spreader tilting device shall be provided to adjust the container to match the variations of
ship trim.

(7) Electro-hydraulic catenary trolley rope tensioner

Electro-hydraulic catenary trolley rope tensioner shall be provided to supplement the


shortage of the rope during the boom hoisting, absorb the extension of the rope.

1-3. APPLICABLE STANDARDS AND RULES

The Crane to be furnished under this Specifications shall be designed and manufactured, except
where modified by this Specifications, in accordance with the standard specifications listed below.

These are to be considered equivalent to the national standard specified in the Purchaser’s
specification.

Note : As for details not specifically described in the above standards, the standards of crane
maker and the standards of material and equipment suppliers shall be applied.

1-4. DESIGN CONDITION AND CRITERIA

(1) Structural design

The structural design shall be based on the structural calculation standard for
MITSUI-PACECO PORTAINER® CRANE, except those modified herein.

As for the detail, please refer to JIS B 8821.

(2) Mechanical design

The mechanical design and machine elements shall be based on the Japanese Industrial
Standard practices and Manufacture’s Standard practices, except where prescribed in this
Specifications.

b. Bearings

Bearings have the following B-10 bearing life based on average container load at rated
speed.

c. Gearing

Main hoist, boom hoist, trolley traverse and gantry travel gearing shall be calculated
based on ISO standard or AGMA standard.

d. Wire rope

Wire rope for main hoist and boom hoist shall have a safety factor of not less than 5,
considering reeving efficiency, based on the manufacturer’s catalog breaking strength
for the following design loads:

Main hoist : Concentric rated load without impact


Boom hoist : Maximum lead line pull due to selfweight without
impact during hoisting cycle

(3) Gantry rail tolerances

Gantry rail installations on docks for cranes shall be set by the Purchaser, and it shall be set
in accordance with attached ”GANTRY RUNWAY RAIL TOLERANCES (1-C311-3).

1-8. DOCUMENTS AND DRAWINGS

(1) Drawings for approval

The Contractor shall submit the following drawings for approval as a rule before beginning
manufacture:

a. General arrangement of the crane

The drawings shall be submitted in 3 copies each.

(2) Final drawings and instruction manuals

The Contractor shall submit the following in (3 copies) as final drawings and manuals:

a. All drawings that were previously submitted as drawings for approval.


b. Assembly drawings for auxiliary equipments
c. Sub-assembly drawing for main and aux. equipment
d. Hydraulic system (Assembly dwg., schematic diagram, piping dwg.)

Detail drawings of consumable articles for:

(3) Inspection and test report

The following documents in 3 copies shall be submitted:

a. Mill sheet
b. Shop inspection report
c. Test certificate of wire rope
d. Inspection report at site

(4) Language

All drawings and documents shall be written in English.


All unit shall be metric system.

All name plate for operation shall be written in English.

(5) Filing
The final drawings shall be reduced to A3 size which letters shall be readable.
Final submittals shall be bound in a two-ring or post binder which has a good durability.

1-9. RESERVE RIGHT FOR ALTERATION OF DESIGN

When the strength, efficiency and function of the crane will not be affected, the Purchaser will be
requested to approve of the contractor’s partial alteration or correction of the specification and
the attachment after due consultation with the Purchaser.

1-10. GUARANTEE

(1) The Contractor shall guarantee that the main structures, mechanical and electrical
components and paint thereof shall be free from all defects in design, materials, equipment
and workmanship in accordance with current industrial standards while in normal container
handling use and service for period of 12 months from the date of taking over or 16 months
from the date of FOB Japan, whichever comes earlier.

(2) If any defects due to design, materials, equipment and workmanship are found within the
said period, the Contractor shall improve, repair or replace the said defect without any
charge to the Purchaser.

(3) The Contractor shall not be responsible for any consequential damage and defect arising
from the original defect or damage.

Also, the Contractor shall not responsible for damage or defect due to the equipment or
service supplied by the Purchaser, and not responsible for damages or defects due to the
results of abuse of mishandling or misuse by the Purchaser.

(4) The consumable parts shall not be included in the guarantee.

SECTION 2. MANUFACTURING

2-1. DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING

(1) Design

a. Portainer shall be designed and manufactured in accordance with this specification.

b. The Contractor shall basically manufacture the crane after receiving the Purchaser’s
approval.
The dwgs. for approval shall be returned within two (2) weeks.

(2) Workmanship

a. All furnishing work shall be done conscientiously, and in particular finishing of


replaceable parts shall be based on a basic bore system in accordance with JIS
B0401-1971 to afford interchangeability.

b. Parts which require heat treatment from the viewpoint of strength among those parts,
such as gears, shaft, wheels and screws rods, shall be subjected to suitable heat
treatment depending on respective requirements.

c. Major parts made of forged steel or cast iron shall be annealed so as to eliminate
residual stresses.

d. Holes for bolts shall be made by drill, and these holes shall be free from burrs or the
like.

e. Hydraulic pipings shall be free from oil leakage.

(3) Welding

a. Each welding part shall be free from defects such as cracks, undercuts, overlaps or
craters, which are detrimental to the weld strength.

b. The welding work shall be carefully performed by skilled welders who have at least
passed the examination mentioned in "Standard Qualification procedure for Welding
Technique" which is specified in JIS Z 3801, or welders equivalent to those having the
above qualification.

c. Welding shall mainly adopt arc welding and CO2 gas shielded arc welding.

d. All major welds which are subjected to over 84% of allowable stress shall be
inspected and guaranteed by X-ray test or ultrasonic test for up to 10% of butt weld
length to be inspected.

In this case, the allowable stress of the welded parts shall be 100% of basic allowable
stress.

2-2. MATERIALS

(1) The materials used for major parts of this crane shall be of the high quality and free from
defects of any kind, and also of recent manufacture.

(2) All materials shall conform to the applicable specification of Japanese Industrial Standard,
Japanese Standard of Crane Structures or equivalent.

(3) The following materials or equivalent shall be selected for main parts of the crane by the
Contractor.

2-3. INSPECTION

(1) Inspection and testing at workshop

The Contractor shall submit an inspection and test procedure to the Purchaser and shall
conduct the test and inspection after getting an approval from the Purchaser in accordance
with the approved inspection and test procedure.

Furthermore, when the tests and inspections are finished, the Contractor shall collect the
test or inspection results in order for preparation of the test reports, and shall submit them
to the Purchaser.

If the Purchaser requires that the inspection at work shop is performed by the third
inspection, the number of times and contents which are inspected by him shall be proposed
by the Contractor and discussed with the Purchaser as the inspection is usually performed
by self-inspection according to ISO 9001 certificate.

(2) Material test

For the materials adopted for the following components, the Contractor shall submit the mill
sheet or material test reports to the Purchaser, which are prepared based on JIS or
Manufacturer’s standards, or the test records prepared by other manufacturer.

a. Steel material: Mill sheet of steel works

o Portal
o Boom
o Forestay
o Trolley girder
o Equalizer beam and bogie
o Trolley frame
o Spreader frame

b. Machine parts: Material test table

o Pinion and gears for main hoist, trolley traverse, gantry travel and boom hoist.

Test table prepared by Manufacturer of wire rope.

d. Electric motors

The electrical equipment manufacturer shall supply various tables and graphs for
each main A.C motor which shall contain the following information.

o Line voltages
o Line currents
o Other references’ as considered appropriate

The electrical equipment manufacturer shall also supply test reports for transformer
and etc.

The test shall be in accordance with ”APPLICABLE STANDARDS AND RULES”


mentioned in SECTION 1-3. and maker’s standard.

(3) Shop assembly and testing

a. All mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment shall be assembled as necessary


on their own mountings at the Contractor’s work shop to demonstrate fit of mating
parts and connections.

b. The equipment shall be subjected to the following tests.

o Dimensional check
o Inspection for fabrication and appearance
o Running test of each drive mechanism with no-load condition.
o All coupled machinery shall be checked for smooth operation.

c. The total assembly inspection and reeving of ropes shall not be carried out at factory
if Portainer is assembled at site.

2-4. PAINTING

(1) All paint works including surface preparation and application of shop primer shall be
performed in compliance with the Specifications, contractor’s practice and Maker’s
recommendations at works.

(2) Exterior (exposed) surface shall be coated in accordance with following coating system.

(3) Interior surface of non Air-tight areas which has big holes shall be painted with shop primer
and undercoat. Air-tight areas of interior surface of the box and tubular sections shall not
be coated.

(4) Machinery units and electrical equipment shall be shop-finished in accordance with the
standard practice of respective manufacturers.

(5) Generally, galvanized parts, chromium plated parts, brass, bronze, aluminum, stainless
steel, plastic, glass, rubber, etc. shall not be coated with paint except otherwise specified.

2-5. PACKING AND TRANSPORTATION

(1) Packing

a. Loose parts shall be packed in suitable cases.

b. All packing and protection shall be carried out in accordance with the Contractor’s
practice.

c. After shop assembly, the crane shall be carried on the barge/ship in the totally
assembled condition.

d. Before the voyage, the crane shall be secured sufficiently to endure the various
external forces during the voyage.

(2) Transportation

As to scope of quotation, please refer to Item 1-6.

(3) Storage

The Purchaser shall be requested to provide an erection area including storage area.

2-6. FIELD ERECTION, ADJUSTING AND TEST

(1) The crane shall be adjusted and tested at site.

(2) As to the scope of quotation, please refer to Item 1-6.

(3) The crane shall be subjected to the following tests.

a. No load test

o Demonstration of conformance to the Specification such as limit switches,


interlocks and brakes.
o Speed checks : Main hoist, Trolley traverse, Gantry
travel and Boom hoist
o Voltage and : Main hoist motor, Trolley drive motor,
current checks Gantry drive motor and Boom hoist motor

b. Rated load test

o Speed checks : Main hoist, Trolley travel, Gantry travel and


Boom hoist

o Voltage and : Main hoist motor, Trolley drive motor,


current checks Gantry drive motor and Boom hoist motor

c. Overload test (125% overload of rated load under the spreader)

SECTION 4. DETAILED DESCRIPTION FOR STRUCTURAL PARTS

4-1. PORTAL FRAME

(1) Portal frame shall be of welded rigid frame, box type construction except A frame
supports and leg diagonals, and shall have enough strength and rigidity.

(2) Field connections shall basically be made by high strength bolting and/or field welding.

(3) High strength bolting shall conform to JIS B1186-70 specification and are not
galvanized.

(4) Jacking points of the crane shall be provided on the sill beam.

(5) Conduits shall be fixed on the inside of structure whenever practicable.

4-2. GIRDER

(1) The girder shall be of a mono box construction.


The girder shall be of a welded trapezoid box construction, which has sufficient
strength and rigidity.

(2) The trolley girders shall be connected to the tower frame by high strength bolting or
welding.

(3) A trolley traversing rail shall be fastened by means of bolted clips.

(4) The trolley rail shall be JIS 37 kg/m rail except at boom hinge. The rails at boom
hinge shall be of short rail shaped from JIS 73 kg/m rail.

(5) Two end stoppers for buffers shall be provided to the end of the girder.

4-3. BOOM

(1) The boom shall be of a mono box construction.


The boom shall be of a welded trapezoid box construction, which has sufficient
strength and rigidity.

(2) The boom shall be hinged at the heel end, and a wire rope hoisting system shall be
provided to the end of the boom so that the boom structure can be raised into a near
vertical position for clearing ship’s superstructure and rigging.

(3) When the crane boom is in the load-handling position (lowered), it is supported near its

outer end by a forestay.

(4) Control box for raising and lowering the boom structure shall be provided on the
waterside tie beam near the boom hinge point.

(5) The boom structure shall be provided with its own system of walkways to provide
access to all parts requiring service and maintenance.

(6) Two end stoppers for trolley buffers shall be provided to the end of the boom.

(7) The trolley rails shall be fastened by means of bolted clips.

(8) As for the trolley rail, please refer to “4-2 GIRDER”.

4-4. TROLLEY FRAME

(1) The trolley shall be a self-propelled type. It can travel from the back-reach end of the
girder to the out reach end of the boom.

(2) The trolley frame shall be of welded, rigid frame construction using welded and/or
rolled structural sections and shaped steel lateral bracing.

(3) They shall be so designed and manufactured as to be robust enough to withstand the
various forces caused at the time of acceleration and deceleration of its traversing
movement at high speed.

(4) The trolley frame shall be supported with four (4) wheels.

(5) The trolley frame shall be fitted with safety pads so that it does not fall down even if the
wheels and axles shall be damaged or broken.

(6) The operator’s cab shall be suspended under the land side end of the trolley frame by
means of suitable brackets, and traverse with the trolley.

(7) The festoon cable traction arm for power supply for the trolley traversing and the
junction box, shall be located on the trolley.

(8) Hydraulic bumpers shall be provided at four corners of the trolley frame for safety.
Each pair shall be capable of absorbing and dissipating the impact of collision against
the end stop of the traversing at 70% rated speed with power off.

4-5. MACHINERY HOUSE AND PLATFORM

(1) The machinery house shall be constructed of welded steel plate and shaped steel
construction, and installed on the land side leg tie beam.

(2) The machinery house shall be of a suitable size for access around all machinery and
electrical parts to allow for maintenance and servicing.

(3) The machinery house shall be furnished with main hoist and boom hoist driving
machinery, as well as electrical equipment.

(4) An access hatch shall be provided in the machinery house deck, sized to permit
removal of the largest piece of equipment to ground level, by virtue of an overhead
service hoist provided for this purpose.

(5) Removable stanchions with safety handrails shall be provided around the opening of
access hatch.

(6) Two weather-proof metal sliding doors with lock and safety glass window in upper
panel shall be provided.

(7) The boom hoist wire rope shall not pass through the roof of the machinery house but
through the waterside end of the machinery house and the opening shall be equipped
with flexible rubber plates.

(8) The machinery house shall be pressure ventilated by two forced air blowers to permit
ample cooling effect from filtered air, to ensure satisfactory operation of all machinery.

(9) Well air-conditioned electrical room, which includes skeleton type electrical panels,
shall be installed in the machinery house.

4-6. OPERATOR’S CAB

(1) The operator’s cab shall be designed taking into the consideration of visibility,
operation ability and safety under all crane operations, and it shall be fixed securely
under the trolley.

(2) The cab shall be of a steel construction, and it shall have windows with tinted glass
and safety glass on all sides in order to provide excellent visibility for all the operations
controlled therefrom.

(3) A sliding access door with a lock shall be provided on the rear wall.
Access to cab shall be via a suitable platform provided at the landside leg, and also
access ladder from/to the trolley shall be provided for maintenance service.

(4) The walls shall be covered with two (2) layers of steel plate and glass wool in between
for minimizing thermal gain.

(5) The floor shall be covered with two (2) layers of steel plate, and the space between two
(2) plates shall be used for electric wiring.

(6) The control desks, foot-switch and an air conditioner shall be provided.

(7) A bucket seat, adjustable for height and distance from the front window shall be
provided and it shall be so arranged that the operator can comfortably reach all the
controls and a foot switch.

(8) A service platform for cleaning the bottom glass window of the cab shall be provided
under the operator’s cab.

4-7. STAIRWAYS, LADDERS, PLATFORMS & WALKWAYS

These incidental structural parts shall be designed and manufactured on the basis of the
following contractors standards. Stairways, ladders and platforms shall have double handrails
and toe boards.
Stairs, ladders, platforms and walkways, except those welded to structures, shall be protected
by hot dipped galvanizing instead of painting.

SECTION 5. MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT

5-1. MAIN HOIST EQUIPMENT

(1) The main hoist equipment shall be furnished in the machinery house.

(2) The main hoist equipment shall consist of ;


One (1) or two (2) AC electric motor(s), two (2) AC thruster disk brakes, two (2) rope
drums and one (1) set of reduction gearing.

(3) The output shaft shall be directly coupled to the drum with a spline gear coupler specially
selected for vertical shear resistance and torque rating.

(4) The reduction gear shall be of the totally enclosed, oil bath lubricated type.

(5) The brake shall be provided on the input shaft of the gear reducer which works at the time
of cutting off the electric power supply.

(6) The hoist ropes shall be wound on to the drum in a single layer.

(7) Automatic slow-down and stop limit switches for hoisting and lowering shall be provided.

(8) The back-up limit switch for the highest level shall be installed on the trolley.

(9) The main hoist reeving shall be four (4) fall system reeved through by two (2) ropes.

5-2. SPREADER TILTING DEVICE

(1) The spreader can be adjusted to the trim, list and skew.

(2) Adjustable angles are as follows:


Trim : ±5 degrees
List : ±5 degrees
Skew : ±5 degrees

(3) The spreader tilting device shall consist of four (4) sets of screw-jacks and AC motors,
and be arranged at the end of girder.

(4) All three (3) motions shall be controlled from the operator’s cab.

(5) The mechanical type snag load protection shall be also incorporated into the spreader
tilting mechanism.

Note : Specified angles shall be adjustable angles by individual motion at 4 m above the ground
level to the bottom surface of the spreader with spreader only.

5-3. SWITCH BOX FOR ROPE RE-REEVING

(1) Local control switch boxe to allow convenient re-reeving of main hoist rope and boom
hoist shall be provided near the driving device in the machinery house.

5-4. TROLLEY TRAVERSE EQUIPMENT

(1) The trolley traverse equipment shall be self propelled trolley type and they shall be
furnished on the trolley.

(2) The trolley shall be of hanging typed trolley according to adopting of the mono box girder
and boom structures.

(3) Each set of the trolley traverse equipment shall consist of;
One (1) set of gear reducer, one (1) AC electric motor, one (1) AC thruster disk brake, one
(1) wheel, one (1) wheel shaft and couplings at each corner.

(4) The four (4) sets of hollow shaft typed gear reducers shall be applied so that the overall
width of the trolley is kept minimum.

(5) The brakes shall work at the time of cutting of the electric power supply.

(6) Trolley traverse shall be controlled so as to automatically slow-down and stop at both
ends of trolley traverse.

(7) The back-up limit switches at both ends of trolley traverse shall be provided.

(8) The trolley wheels shall be of double flanged type to pass through the sub rails which are
installed at boom hinge.

5-5. BOOM HOIST EQUIPMENT

(1) The boom hoist equipment shall be furnished in the machinery house.

(2) The boom hoist equipment shall consist of;


One (1) AC electric motor, one (1) AC thruster disk brake, one (1) rope drum(s), one (1)
set of reduction gearing and one (1) electro hyd. disk brake for emergency.

(3) The output shaft shall be directly coupled to the drum with a spline gear coupler specially
selected for vertical shear resistance and torque rating.

(4) The reduction gear shall be of totally enclosed, oil bath lubricated type.

(5) The brake shall be provided on the input shaft of the gear reducer which works at the time

of cutting off the electric power supply.

(6) The hoist ropes shall be wound onto the drum in single layer. Two separate ropes shall
be used.

(7) The automatic slow-down and stop limit switch for the hoisting and lowering function shall
be provided.

(8) The boom hoist shall be interlocked with main hoist and trolley drive so that main hoist and
trolley traverse shall be operated only when boom is at horizontal position.

Also the boom hoist shall be interlocked by means of a limit switch so that it can be
operated only when the trolley is located in the parked area.

5-6. GANTRY TRAVEL EQUIPMENT AND WHEEL TRUCK

(1) The crane shall be carried on double-flanged, forged steel crane wheels, mounted in
equalizer trucks and equalizing beams to ensure even distribution of wheel load.

(2) Each corner shall be fitted with four (4) sets of gantry travel driven and braked system.
Therefore, 50 % wheels of the total number of wheels shall be driven and braked.

(3) Each set of gantry travel equipment shall consist of;


One (1) AC electric motor with disk brake, one (1) totally enclosed reduction gear and one
(1) set of properly guarded gearing.

(4) Energy absorbing bumpers shall be provided on each corner. Each pair shall be capable
of absorbing and dissipating the impact of collision against the end stop of the gantry
travel at 70% speed with power off.

(5) Rail sweeps shall be provided in front of the outer wheels at each corner.

5-7. CRANE STOWAGE DEVICE

(1) Stowage pin

a. Two (2) sets of stowage pins shall be provided, one (1) at each rail side gantry sill
beam to hold the crane from moving longitudinally (gantrying) under stowed conditions.

b. These stowage pins shall be manually inserted into the runway anchor brackets.

c. The stowage pins shall be interlocked with the gantry travelling circuits, to prevent
gantry motion unless all pins are fully released.

5-8. CRANE PARKING BRAKE (RAIL CLAMP)

(1) The type of crane parking brake shall be self-lock, electro-hydraulically released rail clamp.

(2) The crane shall be equipped with parking brakes for each rail, and capable of holding the
crane at a gust wind load of 35 m/sec.

(3) These rail brakes shall be automatically activated according to the gantry motion.

(4) The brake shall be automatically activated at emergency condition, such as cutting off the
electric power supply.

(5) The brake shall be interlocked with gantry travelling motors, to prevent gantry motion
unless they are released.

5-9. HEADBLOCK

(1) The head block shall be suspended by the main hoist ropes through sheaves.

(2) The connection between head-block and spreader shall be manually operated twist-lock
type, quick-change connection.

(3) Interlocks shall be provided to prevent hoisting unless the twist-locks are fully engaged.

(4) Electric power supply from trolley shall be via a single multi-core cable, which
automatically coils or uncoils into/from a collector tub mounted on the head-block, during
hoisting/lowering motions.

(5) Manlift space fenced with handrail shall be prepared on the headblock.

5-10. SPREADER : 20’/40’/45’ Telescopic & Twin-20’ Spreader

(1) The spreader shall be of the telescopic type, and capable of handling two (2) 20’
containers with an adjustable shift(gap) for 0 to 1.6m at the same time in addition to
handling single 45ft, 40 ft and 20 ft containers without interchange of the spreader.

(2) The spreader shall be connected by twist-locks to the head block, such twist-locks will be
operated manually.

(3) The spreader shall have two (2) sets of extending rigid “U” frame beam units supported in
a rigidly braced stationary frame, and sliding on hardened rails on guide shoes.

(4) The telescopic frame motion shall be driven by the hydraulic motor and chains.

(5) The spreader-bar sliding extension members shall be hydraulically held in place at the 20
feet, 40 feet and 45 feet position.

(6) A hydraulically actuated twist-lock assembly shall be mounted at each of the four (4)
corners of the spreader. Also, four (4) sets of the twist-lock assembly shall be mounted at
the center housing for 2-20’ container handling.

(7) The spreader shall have four (4) eye-plates for lifting damaged containers. Each
eye-plate shall bear 10.1 MT in case of vertical load.

(8) An indication lamp shall be provided in the operator’s cab to indicate whether twist-locks
are in the “locked” or “un-locked” position.

(9) Each corner of the spreader shall have an independently controllable, hydraulically
actuated guide flipper providing at least seven (7) inches of gather effect.

(10) One (1) electro-hydraulic power unit (one motor, one pump type) shall be mounted on the
spreader.

(11) The twistlocks of the spreader shall be ISO configurations.

(12) Electrical connections between head-block and spreader shall be via quick release
plug/sockets or couplings.

(13) Wear plates shall be fitted at four corners of the spreader.

(14) Sensing device for the landing of the spreader shall be provided, and interlocks shall be
provided so that the twist-lock can be rotated only when the spreader is landed on a container.

5-11. BOOM LATCH

(1) The electrically operated boom latching device shall be provided on the top of the A frame
to hold the boom secure in the stowed position.

(2) The boom latch shall engage automatically to lock the boom at the stowed position and
shall be remotely released by push button at the boom hoist control box provided near the
foot of A frame.

(3) Bumpers shall be provided to absorb the shock of the boom entering the latches.

5-12. MACHINERY HOUSE SERVICE HOIST

(1) The machinery house shall be furnished with a long lift service hoist with electric drive to
hoist, long-travel (gantry) and cross-travel (trolley).

(2) This hoist shall be able to lift the heaviest component, reach to all major machinery items,
and be able to lower same to dock (ground) level via access hatch in machinery house
floor.

(3) The lift above machine deck shall be selected so that the largest component except main
hoist gear reducer assembly can be carried over the machines on the deck.

5-13. CATENARY TROLLEY ROPE TENSIONER

(1) A hydraulically operated catenary trolley rope tensioner shall be furnished to maintain
proper rope tension during trolley traverse operation.

(2) The catenary trolley rope tensioner shall consist of one (1) set of the electro-hydraulic
power unit, two (2) hydraulic cylinders, and two (2) tension sheaves provided at cylinder
rod end.

5-14. LUBRICATION

(1) Oil lubrication shall be provided for totally enclosed gear reducers, including oil level
indication, and grease lubrication shall be provided for open gears.

(2) Lubrication for other mechanical operating parts shall be by means of high pressure
grease gun.

(3) The lubricating fittings of journals of bearings shall be readily accessible, or shall have
lubrication points ganged to battery plates at a proper platform.

(4) Lube fittings shall be located directly on shafts wherever possible.

5-15. MACHINERY HOUSE VENTILATION SYSTEM

(1) The machinery house shall be pressure ventilated to permit ample cooling effect from
filtered air, to ensure satisfactory operation of all machinery.

5-16. CATENARY ROPE SUPPORT SYSTEM

(1) The purpose of the supports is to reduce the slack due to rope catenaries and permit
accurate positioning of the spreader and lifted load.
(2) The catenary rope support system shall consist of two (2) catenary support trolleys, one
(1) set of rope tensioner and rope reeving system.
One trolley is provided between the main trolley and girder end, and the other one is
provided between the main trolley and boom end.
(3) When the main trolley traverse, each catenary support trolley is located around the
midpoint between the trolley and both ends of the trolley runway.
(4) In case of articulated boom, before the boom is hoisted, seaside catenary support trolley
shall be located near boom articulate pin to support main hoist and trolley traverse rope by
the shift device.

5-19. COMMON MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

(1) Rope drums

a. The rope drum shall be of rolled, welded, steel construction, and its rope grooves shall
be machined accurately to suit the rope.

b. The drum shall be furnished with ball or roller bearing on its shaft end.

c. The drums shall be designed with sufficient length to spool the maximum length of rope
required in a single layer. In addition, two (2) dead turns shall remain on the drum at
each anchored end and one (1) spare turn at the other end.

d. The drum pitch diameter shall be selected using a minimum of thirty (30) times of the
rope diameter.

(2) Sheaves

a. The sheave shall be made of ductile cast iron and its rope groove shall be machined
smoothly.

b. The sheaves shall be fitted with ball or roller bearings.

c. The sheave pitch diameter for the main hoist and trolley traverse shall be selected using
a minimum of thirty (30) times of the rope diameter.

d. The boom hoist equipment shall be designed using a minimum of twenty-five (25) times
of the rope diameter for the sheave pitch diameter.

e. The diameter of equalizer sheave shall not be less than sixteen (16) times of the rope
diameter.

(3) Wire rope

a. All wire ropes shall be conform to JIS or its’ equivalent.

b. The main hoist ropes shall be equivalent to 6xFi(29) construction, 180 kg/mm2, and right
regular lay with independent wire rope center.

c. The boom hoist ropes shall be equivalent to 6xFi(29) construction, 180 kg/mm2, and right
regular lay with independent wire rope center.

d. The max. allowable fleet angle shall be four (4) degrees.

(4) Gears

a. Spur, helical and bevel gears shall be used.

(5) Gear box

a. The gear box shall be of split type, and the flanged jointing face shall be specially
considered for the prevention of oil leakage.

b. Vent cap, oil level gauge and drain plug shall be provided for maintenance and
inspection.

c. All bearings shall be of ball or roller type.

(6) Couplings

The connection between motor shaft and reducer, and those portions which need flexible
connection shall be made by coupling with flexible couplings.

Service factor shall be selected in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendation.

(7) Brake wheels

Brake wheel shall have sufficient resistance against wear and impact, permit minimum
temperature rise, remain free from deformation and cracks, and be well-balanced.

(8) Wheels

a. Gantry wheels shall be of double flanged type and trolley wheels shall be of double
flanged type, and tread width shall be determined taking into consideration the
installation error of gantry and trolley-rails.
b. All wheels shall have full strength against maximum wheel load.
c. Wheel axles shall be furnished with ball or roller bearings.
d. Wheel size shall be determined based on manufacturer’s standard.

(9) Bearings

a. Ball or roller bearings shall be used on almost all rotating shafts.


b. Plain bearings or bushes shall be used for hinge connection and other rocking parts.
c. Ball or roller bearings for guide roller and etc. shall be fitted with lipgarter type seals.
d. Sheave bearing shall be fixed by snap ring.

(10) Shafts and pins

a. Shafts and pins shall be designed taking into consideration the dynamic load and
reduced strength due to notch effect.
b. Shafts and pins shall be machined carefully in consideration of their use.

(11) Keys and keyways

All keys and keyways shall be in accordance with the requirements of JIS.

(12) Screw (bolts, nuts, etc.)

a. All screws and threads shall be in accordance with "Metric system" of ISO.
b. Where practical, all screws, bolts, nuts, washers and other miscellaneous fastenings
and fittings shall be held in such a manner that they shall not come loose due to
vibration.

(13) Name plate and label

a. Name plate
Name plates incorporating the maker’s name and the safe working load of the crane,
of sufficient size to be readily legible from ground level, shall be secured in agreed
positions on the crane.

b. Labels
o The label which indicates the motion and the direction of the motion shall be
attached close to each controller in the operator’s cab.
o The label indicating the performance of the equipment shall be attached to proper
place inside the operator’s cab.
o Above labels shall be written in English.

(14) Hydraulic system

a. Rubber hose
In case of 35 kg/cm2 and 70 kg/cm2 working pressure, rated pressure of hose shall be
105 kg/cm2.
In case of 140 kg/cm2 and 175 kg/cm2 working pressure, rated pressure of hose shall
be 210 kg/cm2.

b. Hydraulic cylinder
Cylinders rods shall be steel with Ni-Cr metal coating and/or stainless steel with Cr
metal coating.

c. Hydraulic systems shall be designed in accordance with JIS and manufacturer’s


standard.

SECTION 6. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

6-1. GENERAL

Electrical equipments shall be designed in accordance with the electrical manufacturer’s


standards unless otherwise specified.

Since the electrical equipment is subject to vibration and saline environment, the electrical shall
be designed and manufactured for operation in these conditions. Also the water-proof and
corrosion-proof shall be considered for outdoor equipment.

6-2. POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM

(1) Main power feeding

The power shall be supplied to the crane by means of a magnetic coupler or hydro-dynamic
typed motor driven cable reel with round type three (3) cores + earth flexible cable.

(2) Trolley power feeding

Electrical power shall be supplied to the trolley by means of multi-core cables and cable
carriers with anti-friction bearings. (Festoon system)

(3) Spreader power feeding

Electrical power shall be supplied to the spreader by means of a single multi-core cable which
automatically coils and uncoils into a cable winding tub mounted on the head-block, during
hoisting/lowering motions.

6-3. DETAIL SPECIFICATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

(1) Electric motors

Motors located in the main machinery house shall have drip-proof enclosures, whilst ones
mounted on the exterior shall be weather-proof totally-enclosed, non-ventilated, or fan-cooled
enclosure.

Main hoist motor and boom hoist motor shall have cooling fan.

Main hoist, trolley traverse, boom hoist and gantry travel motors shall also be fitted with space
heater.
Electric motors shall be specified on TABLE 1. ”MOTOR LIST”.

(2) Brakes

The electrical brakes for all motions shall be designed so that if the control power is dienergized
all brakes may close immediately.

a. Main hoist

The brake shall be AC thruster operated disk type. Two (2) brakes shall be provided
per one (1) set of the main hoist eqipment. The each braking torque shall be more
than 100% of rated hoisting load torque.

b. Trolley

The brake shall be AC thruster operated disk type. The brake torque shall be more
than 100% of rated motor torque.

c. Gantry

The brakes shall be DC magnetic operated disk type integrated into motor. The
brake torque shall be more than 100% of rated motor torque.

d. Boom hoist

The brake shall be AC thruster operated disk type. The brake torque shall be more
than 150% of rated load torque. One (1) emergency electro hydraulic disk brake
shall be provided.

e. The brakes shall be specified on TABLE 2. "BRAKE LIST".

(3) Panels

a. Control panels

Control panels shall be open type and installed in the walk-in type electrical room.
The control panels shall be designed for easy maintenance access, with items of
equipment front mounted and front assembled.
All components installed in the panels shall be provided with symbol markers on which
the same symbol as one used on elementary diagrams shall be printed.

Line numbers shall be printed on all terminal blocks.

b. High-voltage incoming panel

The high voltage incoming panels shall be of cubicle type and installed in the
machinery house.
This panel is used for disconnecting of supplying power.

In the panel, disconnecting switch, PT and meters are fitted.

c. High voltage combination panel

The high voltage combination panels shall be of cubicle type and installed in the
machinery house.
This panel is used for supplying power to main circuits of main hoist/gantry and
trolley/boom hoist.
Power supply for the auxiliary motors and other miscellaneous auxiliary devices shall
also be supplied from this panel.
In the panel, power fuses, magnetic contactor, etc. are fitted.

(Operation of the magnetic contactor of the each panel will be made by push button
switch in the panel.)

d. Transistor power conversion unit

Transistor power conversion panel shall be open type and installed in the walk-in type
electrical room.
Three (3) Transistor power conversion units from AC to DC shall be provided for main
motions of the crane, and DC common bus is applied for the emergency case.
Two (2) power conversion units from DC to AC of them shall be used for
hoist/gantry/boom drive, and the other four (4) units shall be used for trolley drive.
All power conversion units shall be variable voltage variable frequency control system.

(4) Transformers

The high-voltage transformer shall be dry type and equipped with two, 2-1/2 percent taps
above and below normal at the high voltage windings. Protection plates for contacting
between high voltage and low voltage winding shall be grounded. Low voltage
transformers shall be dry type. All transformers shall be continuous rating.

(5) Grid resistor unit

The resistor shall be made of steel plate and open grid type.

(6) Master controllers

a. Two (2) master controllers shall be provided. One (1) master controller shall be used
for hoist/gantry (cross slot universal type). The other master controller shall be used
for trolley-drive function.

b. Each master controller shall be provided with "0" notch mechanical interlock and
stepless type.

c. Signal transmitter fitted in the controller is used for the speed control signal reference.

d. Manual return back mechanism is applied to all master controllers.

(7) Limit switches and protections

All limit switches are dust-proof type except outdoor use.


And the limit switches mounted on the outdoor are weather-proof and dust-proof type.

a. Main hoist

Dual limit switches shall be provided, one is an encoder type and the other is a
weighted lever type.
An encoder shall be activated at each upper and lower end, and in addition, an
“Ultimate stop limit switch” is also provided; that is a weighted lever type, and
open-circuited by the spreader-bar/head-block making direct contact with the switch
when they are hoisted towards the trolley.

Overspeed cut-off protection shall be provided.

b. Trolley

An encoder actuates to decelerate the trolley before each end of trolley traveling on
trolley rails, in addition, limit switches at each end of trolley rails shall be able to
decelerate and stop the trolley even if the master controller is held in the full speed
position.

c. Boom hoist

Boom hoist and boom hook shall be able to operate by the push button switch on the
boom operation control box installed on the waterside leg tie beam..
Further, the gantry travel shall be able to operate at the boom operation control box.

A suitable interlocking switch shall be provided to prevent the crane boom from being
raised unless trolley is in the designated parked position, and to prevent the trolley and
main hoist from being moved unless the boom is in the fully lowered position.

Also interlocking switch shall be provided, so that gantry travel can’t operate if boom is
in-operation, and inversely boom hoisting can’t operate if gantry travel is in-operation.

Overspeed cut-off protection shall be provided.

d. Limit switches and protections are specified on TABLE 3. "LIMIT SWITCHES AND
PROTECTIONS".

(8) Control desks

Two units of operator’s console shall be installed in the operator’s cabin.


The console shall be rotating type with chair.

(9) Boom operation control box

One (1) boom operation control box shall be installed on the waterside leg tie beam.

Boom hoist, latch and gantry travelling shall be operated by means of push button
switches fitted on boom operation control box.

(10) Emergency stop push button

Emergency stop push buttons for all major operating functions (Hoist, Trolley & Gantry,
etc.) shall be provided on the control desk, boom operation control box, at four ground
level positions of each leg, machinery house, trolley and E-room, total of nine (9).

(11) Fault indication & indicating lamp

If main electrical protective devices should be tripped, the related crane operation shall be
stopped and at the same time, the common fault indication lamp and buzzer installed on
the cab control desk shall be energized.

Green lights shall be mounted on the cab control desk to indicate electrical power on.

The contents of the trouble can be confirmed by means of fault display devices of the
electric panel in the machinery house.

(12) Fault diagnostic display device

Fault diagnostic display is mounted on the control cabinet located in the machinery house.
Faults are stored in the programmable controller memory in the order in which they occur.
A door mounted pushbutton is used to read out each fault, and a key switch to reset the
system.

Some of the faults to be monitored are included the followings.

(14) Load detector

The load cells which detect overload with an accuracy of plus and minus 10% when the
spreader has no tilting angle.

The load indicator will be installed in the operator’s cab.

(15) Spreader lift height indicator


The spreader lift hight (digital) shall be indicated on a cabin indication box in the cabin.

6-4. CONTROL

(1) Programmable logic control

Programmable logic controller shall be used to perform the control logic function on the
crane in place of hardwired relay logic.

Major drive controls including all interlocking and sequencing functions for main hoist,
trolley traverse, boom hoist and gantry travel control, except the emergency-stop and end
of gantry travel limit switches function will be performed by the PLC.
All limit switches, operator control devices and other input/output devices to be wired
directly to closest I/O rack. Inputs and outputs shall be grouped by motion or function.
To minimize number of connections, all external I/O connections shall be in I/O rack
mounted closest to cable entry.

(2) Motor control

A.C. Motor control;

All main drive motors shall be A.C. squirrel-cage motors.

All main drive motions shall be of the speed control, which shall utilize Inverter control.

Speed feedback system for drive control shall be adopted.

A.C. motor driving shall be powered from Transistor power conversion units which
respectively supply power for main hoist/gantry travel and trolley traverse/boom hoist
motions, with provision for simultaneous operation of main hoist and trolley traverse or
gantry and trolley traverse functions.

The main hoist motor shall be automatically driven with higher speeds by means of field
weakening at light load.

(3) Other auxiliary equipment

Motors for other auxiliary equipment shall be squirrel cage induction motor and started by
direct-on-line method.

6-5. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT

Lighting and others are specified on TABLE 4. "LIGHTING AND OTHERS".

(1) Lighting

A lighting system shall provide adequate illumination for all ladders, platforms, walkways,
machinery enclosures and cab. A system of floodlighting shall provide adequate lighting to
all work areas, including vessel’s cell areas. The illumination of more than average 100
Lux. under the crane measured at ground level shall be achieved.

Powerful spot lighting shall be mounted


o on the cab side to provide excellent night time viewing, particularly for the inside of ship
cell guides.
o on the leg to illuminate gantry rail for finding out obstruction.

The ballasts for floodlights shall be high power-factor type. (As for voltage, please refer to
item 6-2.)

Fluorescent lights installed in the machinery house shall be glow-start type, and equipped
with Acrylic resin cover.

Lighting fixtures located at outdoor shall be outdoor type.

(2) Aircraft warning lights

Aircraft warning lights shall be installed on the boom and the top of the mast.

(3) Ventilation fan

Two (2) sets of ventilating fan shall be provided for ventilation in the machinery house.
Ventilation fans shall be equipped with filter.

(4) Window wiper

1 set of window wipers and washers shall be provided on the operator’s cab. Power
source for these shall be DC 24V supplied from cab distribution panel.

(5) Loudspeaker and alarm device

Combination type of loudspeaker and alarm device shall be provided.

One (1) set of power amplifier is installed in the operator’s cab.


This amplifier has following functions.

a. Loudspeaker system with microphone

The crane operator can inform directly to personnel on ground level and vessel. A
voice is announced through five speakers installed on the side of operator’s cab and
each gantry leg.

b. Warning alarm

During gantry travelling, electronic warning sound is given by four (4) speakers
mounted on the gantry legs. Warning alarm shall be activated automatically by
gantry motion.

c. Siren sound

For making attention to personnel on the pier or vessel, siren sound is activating by
pressing a foot switch in the operator’s cab.

If these three system are used at the same time, warning alarm and alarm sound becomes
feeble compare with loudspeaker’s voice.

(6) Rotating warning light

4-rotating warning lights shall be installed at four corners of the crane legs. These lights
shall be automatically activated by gantry motion.

(7) Anemometer

Anemometer shall be provided for monitoring wind velocity. The anemometer shall have
one adjustable alarm set point for alarm sound.

a. Cup type transmitter located at the frame of crane.

b. Indication box located in the operator’s cab.

(8) Receptacles for tool and hand lamp

Two (2)-pole 15A, single-phase convenient receptacle with plug shall be provided as
follows.

Welding receptacles

(9) Intercommunication

A two-way intercommunication system shall be provided as follows.

a. 1 set in the operator’s cab

(10) Cab cooling and heating

An air-conditioning unit will be installed in the cab.

(11) Slack rope and overload sensor

a. System components

Load cell, Amplifier

b. Control

o The lowering motion shall be automatically stopped when all the hoist wires
become slack. This rope tension shall be detected by load cells in the hoist
wires.

o The hoisting speed shall be limited to preset (slow speed) values while the load
cells detect slack in the main hoist wires, and then, when the load cells detect
tension equally in all hoist ropes, the speed can increase according to the setting
of the master controller.

o The slack-rope system shall be able to be switched out of circuit in the event of
any malfunction, allowing the crane to operate normally. This isolation switch

shall be installed within lockable box in the electrical control panel.

o The Load cells which detect overload with an accuracy to plus and minus 10%
when the spreader has no tilting and make alarm with warning lamp shall be
provided on the dead end of the hoisting wire ropes.
In case that the device shall make alarm when the spreader is having some tilting
angle, the operator may check whether the alarm stop or not by operating the
tilting to zero (0) degree.

6-6. ELECTRIC WIRING

(1) All wire shall be laid in steel conduits and cable ducts.
Cables on the crane shall be protected against mechanical damage. Wherever practical,
the conduit system shall be concealed within the crane’s structure.

(2) The following wires and cables shall be used:


a. High voltage circuit : 6.6 KV XLPE-PVC power cable (CV)

b. Low voltage circuit : 600V XLPE-PVC power cabel (CV),


PVC insulated & sheathed control cable (CVV),
heat resistant PVC insulated wire (HIV), etc.

c. Flexible cable : Round type 600V EP rubber insulated and


polychroprene sheathed flexible power cable -
class 2 (2PNCT)

d. Panel internal : Electric manufacturer’s standard

e. Trailing cable : Round type 6.6KV XLPE-PVC power cable -


class 3 (3PNCT) or equivalent

(3) Cables and wiring shall be adequately sized to meet current-carrying requirements.

(4) The conductor sectional area for cables and wires except for internal ones of panels and
others shall be as follows :

o Power circuits : more than 2.0 mm2

o Control circuits except for communication signal circuits : more than 1.25 mm2

Internal ones shall be in accordance with electric manufacturer’s standard.

(5) All conductors (internal and external to control panels) shall be labeled at both ends with
plastic tubing wire markers.

SECTION 7. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

7-1. ENGINE GENERATOR SET

The Portainer is equipped with one (1) diesel engine and one (1) AC generator to supply the
electricity for container handling operation.

(1) Diesel engine

Revolution : 1500 rpm

Rated output (Standby power) : Later on HP

Fuel : Light oil


(Equivalent to JIS 2)

Fuel tank : 5000 liters

Battery : DC24V

(2) Generator

Generator shall be selected so as to supply sufficient power to Transtainer for the


motions specified above.

(3) The electrical equipment used for this Transtainer shall endure fluctuation of ±10% of
rated voltage, ±5% of frequency or less than 10% of total sum of both.

PART 1. GENERAL

This crane management system shall be installed on the crane, and includes the
following functions.

(1) Status condition display function


The remote I/O, the limit switches and each operation status, etc. can be
shown on the display.

(2) Fault diagnostic and display function


All electrical faults are stored in the CMS. When the fault is happened,
the fault pop up window will be appered. The recovery instruction will be
showen. And also, related elementary diagram and auto-software search
function is implemented.

(3) Data traceback function at fault


When the fault is happened, the CMS will be automatically stored all data
during total 10sec.(before 8sec and after 2sec).

(4) Operation interlock display function


All electrical interlocks can be shown on the display in order to find out
quickly what interlock is activated.

(5) Data management function for operation


All operation data such as handling container counts, etc. is stored in the
CMS every operation numbers.

(6) Data management function for maintenance parts


All maintenance data such as the inspection date and exchange date for
the parts is shown on the display.

(7) PLC auto-search function


From the CMS, all status on the CMS screen can be accessible to the PLC
automatically.

(8) Drawing auto-search function


All elementary diagrams are stored in the CMS. And, from the fault lep
window can be accessible to the drawing automatically.
