Background/Description:
The purpose of this Service/Parts Topic is to remind the field of the maintenance
requirements for the “re-greasable bearings” as fitted to the Cummins Generator
Technologies supplied alternators fitted to the Generator Models as indicated in the above
table.
Warranty Impact:
It is important to understand that the Generator Set must be operated and maintained in
accordance to Cummins published guidelines. Failure to follow these published guidelines
can result in severe Generator Set damage. Whilst failing to follow these guidelines will not
void Cummins warranty, it must be understood that Cummins will deny coverage for any
corrective work or progressive damage that Cummins alone determines was caused by not
following the applicable Operation and Maintenance guidelines and service intervals.
Cummins Warranty Bulletin 3624642 states that the Owner is responsible for the operation
and maintenance of the Generator set as specified in the Cummins Operation and
Maintenance Manuals. The Warranty Bulletin also states that Cummins is not responsible
for failures resulting from Owner or operator abuse, such as: operation without adequate
coolant or lubricants; overfueling; overspeeding; lack of maintenance to lubricating, cooling
or air intake systems.
The information contained within this Service / Parts Topic does not authorise TRP or
Campaign practices.

Background:
All alternators supplied by Cummins Generator Technologies (CGT) for use on the QSK60G
(all model variants), QSV81/91G (all model variants) and QSV91G 2MWe (all model
variants are currently two-bearing alternators). They are equipped with two “re-greasable”
bearings, fitted at the drive end and non-drive end of the alternator.
Corrective Actions:
Re-Greasable Bearings:
Where re-greasable bearings are fitted the bearing housings incorporate fittings for pipe
work to an external grease nipple.
Generators with re-greasable bearings are supplied with information labels advising the
user of the following:
Grease type
Re-lubrication frequency
Quantity of grease to be used
These instructions must be followed. This information is repeated in the Operation and
Maintenance manuals, as well as the CGT Installation, Service and Maintenance Manual for
the specific range of alternator.
NOTE: The specified grease must never be mixed with that of another type as bearing
failure will occur.
