Principles of sustainable design (2)

3- Respect for The Respect for Place - The ecosystem principle:

Place Describe the complex interplay of:
- biological climatologically
- geological
- topographical
- Regionalism (Image of the place) “Architecture through building design has draw out
the feature of these places ”

Regionalism- Being local is Designed with local materials and with respect for the place.
Regionalism- Solutions out of place, Natural Solutions , Technological fixes.

- Problem of miss-place, individualism.

The International Style is the name of a major architectural style that developed in the 1920s
and 1930s and strongly related to Modernism and Modern architecture. It was first defined
by Museum of Modern Art curators Henry-Russell Hitchcock and Philip Johnson in 1932, based
on works of architecture from the 1920s.
- Orientation
Orientation is the positioning of a building in relation to seasonal variations in the sun’s path as
well as prevailing wind patterns. Good orientation can increase the energy efficiency home
design, making it more comfortable to live in and cheaper to run.

The land has much greater use for humanity:

For example, building on agriculture lands, it is a crime against the coming generations to build
on prime agriculture land, in such case the land has greater value for the humanity than just
building a structure on it, where such structure can be built in another place without harming
such resource.
The land is dangerous or unsuitable for human use:

Some places could be quite dangerous to host a building. Buildings in such places are considered
as a non responsible action. For example areas that are exposed to floods, earthquakes or other
sorts of danger are not suitable for building structures for it.
The land is too delicate and sensitive for human use:
Some places should be treated in a sensitive way; where construction should be done with the
preserve of the site as much as possible. Trees should be protected. The surrounding nature
should be respected more than that. The site should be left in better conditions than how it was
found. Bob Berkebile said ''how can we be restorative?''
The land is being used already by another animal that cannot co-exist successfully with
human:

Most of today's human development occurs with no respect to boundaries. Boundaries can
define what is wild and what is developed. In the ecosystem, there are lots of creatures that live
on boundaries or move across boundaries to another place. The progressive development has
no respect for such creatures. Such development prevent them from living side to side with
human .It threaten their lives or existence.
4-The respect for the cycle of Life -The ecosystem principle
Nature doesn't produce waste, waste= food.

- Paul Hawken discussed was a restorative economy

instead of a destructive one.Where products we create
can contribute to the birth of something else .Such thing
can assure integration with the cycle of life.
