6. Joshua designed a smart chip that can speed up wireless transfer of data. He went into a
joint partnership with a developer to produce and sell 1800 smart chips and the developer
proposed to sell them at the baseline price of $10 each. Joshua then decided to increase
the selling price of each chip to maximize the money he can collect. He did some research
on similar products and found that for every $1 increase from the baseline price of such
smart chip, the sales of smart chips will drop by 100.

(a) If Joshua increases the selling price of each smart chip by $x from baseline price,
show that the amount of money he can collect is given by the quadratic expression
100 x 2  800 x  18000 .

(b) Joshua plotted the graph of y  100 x 2  800 x  18000 for different x and the graph
is shown below.

Find each of the following. Show your working clearly.

(i) The coordinates of A, where the graph intersects the y-axis.
(ii) The coordinates of B and C, where the graph meets the x-axis.
(iii) The equation of the line of symmetry of the graph.
(iv) The coordinates of the maximum point.

(c) Hence, determine the maximum amount of money that Joshua can collect and the
price at which he should sell each smart chip to collect this amount of money.
