The Rizal Law WHAT IS IT? The Rizal Law, also known as Republic Act No. 1425, is a Philippine law that was enacted on June 12, 1956. It mandates the inclusion of the life, works, and writings of national hero Jose Rizal in the curricula of all public and private schools in the country. Former Senator Jose P. Laurel, who helped create the Rizal Bill, said that because Jose Rizal started the feeling of love for our country and greatly helped how our nation is today, it's important for all Filipinos, especially young people, to learn about him and adopt the great ideas he stood for. Laurel was also named as chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, which he held when he sponsored in 1955 a bill that would make José Rizal's two novels, Noli Me Tángere and El filibusterismo, as compulsory readings in all universities and colleges.
