    Effective width of the slab (RBeff) = Road width +Foot path

    = 2.5m + 0.2m

    = 2.9m

    K = RBeff / Leff = 2.9m / 1.4m

    = 2.0

    Weff = The effective width of dispersion of a single wheel

    Weff = ⍺ 𝑥 ( 1- (𝑥/Leff)) + bw

    Whare;

    ⍺ = 3.0

    𝑥 = distance of centre of gravity of the concentrated


    load from nearer support

    = 1.4/2

    = 0.7m

    bw = breath of concentration area of load

    = W (wheel width) + 2(weathering course thickness)

    = 0.6m + (2 x 0.08m)

    = 0.76m

    Weff = ⍺ 𝑥 ( 1- (𝑥/Leff)) + bw

    = 3 x 0.7 ( 1- (0.7/1.4 ) + 0.76

    = 1.81m

    The effective width of dispersion can be calculated by – double wheel

    Beff total-Effective width of dispersion = 1.81+0.7

    = 2.5m

    The effective length of dispersion =1.2m

    Vehicle Load =400kN

    Factored vehicle on wheel load =1.35 x 400kN

    =540kN

    The intensity of loading = Load / Area

    Consider vehicle load =540kN/ (2.5mx 1.2m)

    = 180kN/m2

    Cover slab loading details: (width of the element 1m)

    Slab self-weight = 0.25m x 25kN/m3 x 1m = 6.25kN/m

    Consider 80mm weathering course = 0.08m x 22kN/m3 x 1m = 1.76kN/m

    Vehicle load =180kN/m2 x 1m = 180kN/m

    Precast element design details:

    Precast slab length = 1.6m

    Precast slab width = 1.0m
