When conducting the survey, only eighteen (18) responded. Out of the eighteen
(18) Respondents ten (10) out of the eighteen -55. 6%- were females and eight (8) out of the
eighteen (18) -44.4%- were males. Majority of the respondents ranged from the age group of 14-
17.Based on the data collected seven (7) out of the eighteen (18)-38.9% -of the responses came
from fifth formers. From the responses of the questionnaire it could be seen that more than
thirty-eight percent (38%) of the respondents said that physical violence is the most common
violence that takes place within their school and more than twenty-seven percent (27%) said that
verbal attacks as well. The items that the perpetrators used for their attacks were mainly
stationery. The respondents chose bullying and family environment to be leading factors for
perpetrators to cause violence within schools. The students reaction towards violence varied
based on their grade level as well as their level of maturity, so, from the responses the students
would start to record the violent attacks (this response of both younger and older students of the
schools) and other (the other had a variety of different options to the question) as a reaction to
violent incidents. The students who have leadership positions at their school had reacted
differently to the violent acts, seeing that they had seek help to quell the violence or try to stop it.
Schools have undertaken a variety of measures to help dealing with violence. The measures that
have undertaken based on their resources. Installing cameras and hiring security guards were the
most common option chosen by the respondents when asked ‘what has your school done to help
prevent violence?’

RECOMMANDATION
Violence is one of the major issues in the Caribbean and can take a toll on society especially
when it takes place in schools and affecting children. Hosting seminaries, where persons – such
guidance counselors- will come and talk to students about violence and teach them different
ways they can resolve conflict before it leads to a violent situation. Although encouragement is a
good way of helping students, punishment is still needed, so schools can put in place sanctions
which will be punishments for those who are part takers in the violent attacks. The punishments
would be expulsions, suspension, detention, etc. The punishments will vary based on the type
