Quezon City is a highly urbanized and populous city; often abbreviated as QC, it
holds a significant place in the Philippines. Located in the northern part of Metro Manila,
this dynamic city has undergone substantial growth since its inception. Today, it is a
thriving urban hub known for its diverse neighborhoods, commercial and industrial
zones, modern infrastructure, and vibrant culture. Quezon City offers a rich historical
tapestry and numerous attractions, making it a compelling destination for both residents
and visitors. Whether you're interested in exploring its historical landmarks or immersing
yourself in its bustling urban life, Quezon City presents a compelling blend of the past
and present that defines its unique character in the Philippines. According to the
Philippine Statistics Authority under the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH)
the population of Quezon City as of 2023 is 2,960,048 persons.

Quezon City embodies a multifaceted settlement pattern, blending nucleated and

meticulously planned elements. The city's core is the Quezon Memorial Circle area,
serving as the nucleus or central point that initially houses vital administrative,
commercial, and cultural hubs. This concentrated layout characterizes a nucleated
settlement pattern, attracting government institutions, shopping districts, and cultural
landmarks. Conversely, extensive planning underscores much of Quezon City's
evolution.evident in its structured road networks, zoning regulations, and sectoral
organization. Distinctive zones cater to residential, commercial, and institutional needs,
reflecting its planned settlement attributes.

It is composed of various settlement functions. It encompasses residential

options ranging from high-rise condos to single-family houses. Commercial centers
provide goods and services, while educational hubs attract students nationwide. It
houses government offices, healthcare facilities, recreational and cultural spaces,
industrial districts, and transportation hubs such as,LRT(Light Rail Transity) and MRT
(Metro Rail Transit) . Additionally, it embraces religious diversity, caters to expatriates,
and fosters research and technology. This diverse array of functions renders Quezon
City a dynamic and vital urban center that addresses the needs of its residents, playing
a pivotal role in the Philippines' economic, cultural, and administrative life.

Quezon City grapples with numerous planning dilemmas as it undergoes

continuous expansion and development. Among the most urgent challenges is the issue
of traffic congestion, where the city's road infrastructure struggles to accommodate the
escalating volume of vehicles, leading to daily traffic jams and frustrating commutes. To
address this predicament, Quezon City must allocate resources towards enhancing its
public transportation alternatives, which may involve expanding the metro system or
introducing bus rapid transit (BRT) systems. Furthermore, fostering bicycle usage and

establishing pedestrian-friendly infrastructure can contribute significantly to traffic

alleviation.

Another critical concern revolves around the inadequate supply of affordable

housing. Numerous residents encounter difficulties in securing suitable housing,
resulting in informal settlements and overcrowded living conditions. To combat this
dilemma, the city should actively promote mixed-use developments that integrate
affordable housing options and extend incentives to developers who incorporate such
units into their projects. Moreover, there is an escalating worry about environmental
degradation, necessitating measures like the preservation of green spaces, adoption of
sustainable building practices, and investments in urban reforestation. Additionally,
Quezon City should focus on enhancing public services, mitigating flooding and
drainage issues, and curbing urban sprawl by encouraging higher-density development
in specified zones.
