Ph.D., D.Litt. and D.Sc.

(Honorary Doctorate)
General: The Honorary Degree
An Honorary degree is entirely legitimate and the title conferred may be used like any other. The
degree is awarded to those who have demonstrated a Honoris Causa, or cause to be honored.
This programme is offered only to a select group of accomplished individuals. As a professional,
a degree or additional degree allows one to make a greater impact and is an expedient way of
showing the world one's knowledge, abilities, experience and talents. However, an Honorary
degree may not necessarily be recognized by employers as having the same stature as a
corresponding earned degree and should not be represented as such. It is an Award conferred
upon an eminent and noteworthy individual and not an educational / academic qualification.

Honorary Degrees are granted based on evaluation of past accomplishment and competencies,
and will be done on an individual basis by qualified experts. Recipients of honorary degrees do
not earn the degree through academic achievements, rather with generous and altruistic actions
or lifetime accomplishments that benefit a community, nation or humanity in general.

The objective of Ph.D. programmes shall be to impart research training to scholars so that they
can carry out independent investigations and original research so as to contribute significantly
to the field.
