Lecture 5 - Stream Splitting

This document discusses stream splitting techniques for heat exchanger network (HEN) synthesis. There are different rules for splitting streams depending on whether they are above or below the pinch point in the network. Above the pinch, the number of hot streams must be less than or equal to the number of cold streams. Below the pinch, the number of hot streams must be greater than or equal to the number of cold streams. Examples are provided to illustrate how to determine the appropriate stream split ratios to develop a feasible heat recovery network design.
