Semi-Detailed LP - Polynomials
Semi-Detailed LP - Polynomials
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the student must be able to;
Define the polynomials,
Identify the names/types of polynomials, and
Use polynomials in real life situation.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
A. Topic: Introduction to Polynomials
B. Reference: Elementary Algebra I- pp. 102-105
C. Instructional materials:
- Laptop/Cellphone
- Power point= presentation
- Whiteboard
- Marker
- Index card
III. PROCEDURES:
A. PREMILARY ACTIVITY
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Checking attendance
4. Checking of assignment
5. Recall pass lesson
(They will have short recap about pass lesson)
B. Motivation
Ask students the following questions to spark their interest in the topic of
polynomials:
1. Have you ever wondered how we can represent real-life situations
mathematically?
2. How can mathematics help us solve problems involving unknown quantities?
3. Can you think of any situations where we need to find an unknown value or solve
an equation?

Allow students to share their thoughts and answers. Explain to them that
polynomials are mathematical expressions that can help us model and solve real-life
problems.
C. Activities
Polynomial Puzzles
1. Provide each student with index cards or small pieces of paper.
2. On each card, write a polynomial expression or equation, both in standard and
factored form.
3. Ask each student to solve the polynomial puzzle and write down the solution.
4. After a set time, randomly call out students to come forward and share their
solution, explaining their thought process.
D. Analysis
Definition:
A polynomial is a mathematical expression consisting of variables (often denoted as x,
y, etc.) and coefficients, combined using the operations of addition, subtraction, and
multiplication.
Components of a Polynomial:
Terms: These are the building blocks of a polynomial. A term is either a constant or the
product of a constant and one or more variables raised to non-negative integer
exponents.
Coefficients: These are the constants that multiply the variables in each term.
Variables: These are the indeterminates or symbols representing unknown values.
Exponents: They indicate the power to which a variable is raised in a term.
Degree of a Polynomial:
The degree of a polynomial is the highest power of the variable in any of its terms. For
example, in the polynomial 3 x 2+2x+1, the highest power is 2, so it's a second-degree
polynomial.

E. Abstraction
Summarize the concepts learned in this lesson and emphasize the importance
of polynomials in mathematics and real-life applications. Remind students that
polynomials are powerful tools for solving problems, modeling real-world situations,
and creating visual effects.
F. Application
The teacher let the student question and let them answer.
IV. Assignment
Assign a few word problems related to polynomials as homework to assess the
students' understanding of the application of polynomials in real-life situations. Provide
feedback on their solutions to reinforce the concepts taught in the lesson.
