INT KITCHEN EVENING

Yvonne is in the kitchen making dinner. As she takes the

lasagne out of the oven the doorbell rings.

YVONNE
John! Could you get that?

Yvonne’s husband, John goes to the door and answers it. There
is no one there. He leans out of the door frame and looks
around but there is no one in the street.

YVONNE
(shouting from the other room)
Who is it?

John enters the kitchen.

JOHN
No one, darling. Must be some kids playing pranks.

YVONNE
Oh, that’s odd.

John notices the doll in the corner and jumps in fright.

JOHN
What on earth is that?

Yvonne turns around and laughs.

YVONNE
That’s Agnes! That couple I did a ghost hunting job
for today gave her to me. Isn’t she sweet?

JOHN
Sweet isn’t the word I’d use. She’s a creepy
thing.

Yvonne fake gasps and moves to pick up the doll, covering her
ears.

YVONNE
Don’t listen to him, Agnes. You’re not creepy at
all.

They both laugh. Yvonne places the doll back on the counter.
The two sit down to eat.
YVONNE
(Shrieks)

JOHN
What is it?

YVONNE
I... I could have sworn she just blinked.

JOHN
(laughing)
I think you’re seeing things, love. Unless it’s
possessed or something.

Yvonne slaps John lightly on the arm.

YVONNE
Don’t even joke about that! Some of the stuff I’ve
seen at work involving possessed dolls… horrifying.

David rolls his eyes. Yvonne sighs.

YVONNE
I know you don’t believe in that sort of thing but
believe me, possessed dolls are nothing to joke
about!

JOHN
(mumbling)
Yes yes, dear.

INT LIVING ROOM NIGHT

The couple are sat watching TV. The telephone rings. Yvonne
gets up to answer it.

YVONNE
Hello? Hello? Who is this?

Yvonne stays on the phone for a few seconds, waiting for

someone to speak. She suddenly gasps and drops the phone in
fear.

JOHN
What is it?

YVONNE
Someone was whispering on the other end. I can’t
explain it but it sounded so horrible and creepy. I
couldn’t make out what they were saying but I have
an awful feeling about it.

JOHN
(sighs)
I’m sure it’s fine. Unless it’s Agnes wanting to say
hello.

He chuckles. Yvonne sighs, exasperated.

YVONNE
I know what I heard, John. I have a bad feeling
about this.

John turns to the windowsill to pick up his drink and jumps.

The doll is sitting on the windowsill.

JOHN
When did you move it here? It scared the life out
of me.

YVONNE
I didn’t.

JOHN
No seriously, when did you move it? It can’t have
just teleported there.

YVONNE
I swear on my life I didn’t move her. There’s
something weird about that doll.

The lights flicker off and on. The doll is nowhere to be seen.

YVONNE
Where is she? Did you move her?

JOHN
Firstly, it’s an it, not a her. And secondly, no.
Why would I touch that creepy thing?

YVONNE
(sighs, exasperated)
Does that really matter right now? Where is that
damn doll?

JOHN
Look, I’m sure it’s fine. She’ll be around here
somewhere. I’m sure all of this could be easily
explained. Let’s just go to bed and get some sleep.
We’ll look for her in the morning.
YVONNE
As if I’ll be able to sleep after all this.

The telephone rings again. Yvonne shudders in fear. John sighs

and stands up.

JOHN
It’s okay. I’ll answer it.

John answers the phone.

JOHN
Hello? Who’s there?

There is whispering and static on the other end.

JOHN
Look. Whoever this is stop calling us. This isn’t
funny. Stop this.

John hangs up the phone.

JOHN
Don’t worry about it, love. I’m sure it’s some kids
playing a stupid prank.

Yvonne shakes her head.

YVONNE
I don’t know. I have a bad feeling about this.

Yvonne and John go to bed.

INT BEDROOM 3AM

Yvonne and John are asleep in bed. Yvonne suddenly wakes up.
As her eyes adjust to the darkness, she sees the doll sat on
top of the chest of drawers opposite the bed. She screams.
John wakes up and turns on the light.

JOHN
What is it?

Yvonne shudders and points to the doll. John turns white with
fear.

YVONNE
That’s it. I can’t have that thing in the house
anymore.

She puts on her slippers, grabs the doll and heads downstairs.
She picks up her car keys from the table by the front door and
heads outside. She unlocks her car, opens the boot and throws
the doll in. She locks the car and goes back inside and back
to bed.

INT KITCHEN MORNING

Yvonne is sat at the table sipping a cup of coffee. John

enters.

YVONNE
I’ve decided what to do about the doll.

JOHN
Oh yeah? What’s that?

YVONNE
We’re going to bury her.

JOHN
(laughing)
Bury her? Isn’t that a bit extreme? Look I’m sure
she isn’t possessed. There’s no such thing. What
happened last night was probably just some kids
playing pranks on us.

YVONNE
Really John? Then how do you explain her moving from
one room to another without either of us touching
her? Burying is the standard practice with possessed
dolls.

JOHN
(sighs)
Fine. If it will give you piece of mind, we’ll bury
her.

John goes into the garden, takes a shovel from the shed and
begins digging a small hole. Yvonne goes to her car to collect
the doll. However, when she opens the boot, the doll isn’t
there. She searches the car and finds it sat in the backseat.
She grabs the doll and runs out to the garden.

OUT GARDEN MORNING

YVONNE
(shouting)
John!

JOHN
What is it?

YVONNE
Last night I put her in the boot of the car. I
distinctly remember throwing her in the boot. But
this morning she was sat in the backseat. Just sat
there, like someone placed her there.

JOHN

Are you sure? It was the middle of the night. You

were tired. Maybe you’re misremembering

Yvonne shakes her head.

YVONNE
No. I’m positive I put her in the boot. Let’s just
hurry up and bury her. I can’t wait for this to be
over.

Yvonne and John finish digging the hole. They put the doll in
and shovel dirt back on top.

YVONNE
Goodbye, Agnes.

INT LIVING ROOM AFTERNOON

Yvonne and John are sat on the sofa, watching TV.

YVONNE
Cup of tea?

JOHN
I’d love one, thanks.

Yvonne stands up and walks to the kitchen. She screams. John

comes running in from the living room. Yvonne points to the
counter. The doll is sat there, covered with dirt.
