nowhere. In Malayalam, MJC is one of the main reasons for my improvement and success in many ways. He takes great efforts to guide me while we record. And in Tamil with Yuvan sir, it was always about the different type of songs he gave me, and the confidence he had on me to deliver. The whole world may have loved those songs, but what does your father say? Is he fond of any particular song of yours? Usually, he does not get time to listen to each and every song. That apart, there was a song in Banaras (Koovaram kili...), a favourite of my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Ammeya. When this song got released and came on TV she was just a few months old. She would stop crying whenever it was played. So my my father had to learn the song and render it for the sake of his granddaughter. So I guess that song of mine, by default, has to be his favourite.

Flooded with offers, Mankatha director Venkat Prabhu wants to make his next film in 3D

So you think Ammeya has the singing gene. Even when she was very young she could easily differentiate my voice with others. The moment my song appeared on TV or a player, she started listening. She would not, if it was rendered by someone else. She loves Sujatha chechis (playback singer) voice as well. Initially, this was a huge surprise for all of us. The only instance where she got confused was more recently when wed play the songs of my father and I together. There is a controversy over bringing the likes of Shreya Ghoshal to South You really cannot put your finger on a topic like this. I am not sure how the local singers are getting affected because of the so-called outside singers. At the end of it, it is who a music composer wants to work with. As far as Shreya is concerned (I have sung many duets with her) shes definitely one of a kind and unique. There is no reason why anyone should be compared to one another. Her ability to adapt to any language just amazes everyone. Yesudass son is a huge Rajinikanth fan as well. Have you met him and told him about your hero-worship? Yeah, huge, huge fan. I have met him many times, but never had the courage to tell him anything of that sort. I would like to admire him from a distance. Recently, I had requested my friend Ayshwariya (Rajinikanths daughter) to get my Enthiran posters autographed for me. She did it dutifully. I watched Sivaji-The Boss first day first show in the US. I would have seen the film at least 20 times, and Endhiran Ive watched five times in different cities across the globe in Dubai, London and the US.

Talking about Tamil, the song in Aayirathil Oruvan (Thai Thindra Manne) should be your best song. It was the toughest song I have ever recorded in Tamil, taking almost a full day. Purely semi-classical in style, it was a very situational song for the character in the film and it required me to use all my capability to the fullest. A huge thanks to director Selvaraghavan and composer GV Prakash. That brings to mind the song (Sahara..) in Shivaji-The Boss. The version you rendered was not used in the film, but many say it is one your best renditions. Yeah, it was a great song by Rahman sir. In fact that was the first version recorded for the song. Later, a faster version (by Udit Narayan and Chinmayee) was used in the film. Rahman sir was gracious enough to use my slower variant in the CD.
The recent song in Mankatha should be your most popular song in Tamil. Yes, the film is a superb entertainer and thanks to its success our song has been received very well. I would say the Billa song that I sang for Thala (Ajith), a solo, was a bigger hit. What about Kannada and Telugu? I love singing in Kannada actually. I have had the fortune of singing some of the tunes composed by Hamsalekha sir, the Ilayaraja of Kannada. In fact, I had my Kannada debut in Nenapirali (Ajantha Ellora...) composed by Hamsalekha. Then the song
Odimaga.. in Jogi which was a chartbuster and then many films such as Aa Dinagalu, Honganasu, Yuga Yugagale Saagali and so on. In Telugu too, I had some projects like Ramadasu, Shivaputrudu, Naa Autograph, Maharadhi and Seethayya. You had a brief stint in Bollywood as well. Ive yet to breakthrough in Bollywood, it doesnt come that easy, but Ive recorded beautiful melodies for composers like Himesh Reshammiya and Pritam, although my debut was for Phir Milenge by Revathy, which was composed by Bhavatharini (Ilayarajas daughter). One of my favorites is the song Ive been waiting... composed by none other than Rahman sir for the film Jhoota Hi Sahi. Yuvan Shankar Raja in Tamil and M Jayachandran in Malayalam were like pillars for you. They keep giving you awesome songs. Without them, I would be
ver since Mankatha was released and declared a massive hit, Venkat Prabhu has been in the front pages as there have been a lot of speculation regarding his next project. Reports say Venkat is ready with a script which has the working title Neradi Oliparappu, which he plans to shoot in 3D format. Sources close to Venkat say the director has a couple of scripts ready and all of which could be made in 3D format. It is also believed that this one was to be his first film but it was not be so as SP Charan, the producer of Chennai-28, wanted that to be Venkats debut film. It has also been reported that Venkat is certain to join hands with a top hero under a big budget production banner. (not Ajith, anyway!) Meanwhile, Venkat was so busy sorting out the Sona-Charan conflict besides a trip abroad celebrating the victory of Mankatha. Insiders tell us that a number of production houses are chasing Venkat. Reportedly, many stars have evinced keen interest to helm their projects as well. It is learnt that Venkat has been roped in by Studio Green, a banner owned by Suriyas cousin, KE Gnanavel who produced films like Chillunu Oru Kaadhal with Suriya and Siruthai with Karthi. It is not clear yet if the film to be made by Venkat under the Studio Green banner will feature Suriya or his younger sibling Karthi. While Suriya may do a film with director Hari after he completed KV Anands Maatran, Venkat may have to wait for quite a while to do a film with Suriya. Karthi too is busy with Sakuni. Lets us wait and watch as to who would act under Venkats direction.
